For what I thought would be a slower issue, this turned into an entertaining setup for the future while also giving us some of the past.
The past is well played out, and while not taking anything away from what we know, we get a revised history of the Foot Clan and their splinter clan. Yes, a splinter clan, and it fits in quite nicely with the clan's mythos and what went before.
I enjoyed the telling, and the fact that we get some confirmation of its validity works well within the story and leads us nicely into the endgame.
That confirmation comes from the dead, and the brief action in this story has Kerai pitted against a demon. It’s a test—it’s always a test—and one she fights through. In addition to her skills, Kerai uses her brain in the three questions, not getting ahead of herself and working out how to get an edge.
The artwork mixes the flashbacks to old times, the land of the dead and the more modern aspects (holograms, etc) really well, and there is an excellent job on this and the colouring.
I’m looking forward to seeing how Kerai works with this newfound knowledge!
