After the shocking incident in the previous issue, this chapter really leans into the fallout, and it absolutely delivers. The reaction to the death isn’t just a passing moment—it’s raw, impactful, and handled with real weight. It sets the tone immediately and pulls you straight into what becomes one of the most action-packed entries in the series so far.

For a mortal, Frey has an incredible amount on her shoulders, and what stands out here is just how capable she is in the face of it all. She doesn’t just survive—she fights back hard. The action sequences are tightly plotted and flow brilliantly from one to the next, never feeling repetitive or excessive despite the sheer volume of combat. This is a full-throttle issue, packed with violence, bloodshed, and kinetic energy, but it never loses its sense of purpose.

Frey remains a fascinating character, and the flashback adds another layer to her story. It’s not just there for exposition—it genuinely deepens our understanding of her. Seeing her relationship with her family gives context to her current struggles, and you can clearly trace how those early experiences planted the seeds for the conflicts she’s dealing with now. It’s a strong emotional anchor in an otherwise relentless issue.

As she fights her way from one dangerous situation to another—including a standout sequence on the roof of a moving train—there’s a clear sense that this isn’t just physical survival. Frey is working through her own internal conflicts at the same time, figuring out who she is and what she wants to do next. That combination of external action and internal struggle gives the issue real substance.

Overall, this feels like a perfect example of what the series does best. It balances high-octane action with meaningful character development and underlying themes about immortality—what it means, how it affects those who have it, and those who don’t. The characters continue to feel fully realised, and everything builds toward a closing moment that lands a fantastic hook for what’s coming next in the arc.

It’s a standout issue that shows exactly why this series has been so compelling.

It’s genuinely satisfying to see the Dog Star Clan return here, especially given their history and the aftermath of their clashes with Karai. Their reappearance feels like a natural progression for Shredder’s journey—these are allies, or at least connections, that make sense for him to seek out. However, things are far from stable on their end. The clan is clearly struggling, and their increasing reliance on advanced technology has backfired in a big way, leading to internal conflict and a breakdown in leadership. That instability adds an immediate sense of tension to everything that follows.

The action throughout the issue is a real highlight, delivering both intensity and creativity. Shredder isn’t just facing standard opponents here—he’s up against enemies enhanced or corrupted by technology, and the body horror elements that come with that are particularly striking. The way these transformations are portrayed adds an extra layer of unease to the combat. What really stands out, though, is how Shredder approaches these fights. His methods feel calculated and deliberate, and there’s a clear sense of strategy behind every move. The battles aren’t just visually engaging—they’re logical, showing how Shredder adapts to increasingly unpredictable threats.

Within the Dog Star Clan, the shift in leadership is another compelling element. The new figure in charge immediately gives off a sense of danger, not just because of his authority but because of his apparent control over the clan’s technology. That control makes him a serious threat to everyone around him, including Shredder. On top of that, he’s portrayed as deeply unlikable, which makes the tension around him even stronger. There’s a clear sense that his downfall is inevitable, and when it comes, it’s likely to be a very satisfying moment.

As if that weren’t enough, Shredder is now dealing with threats beyond the clan itself. The EDF has taken notice of his actions and views him as a planetary-level danger, which raises the stakes significantly. This adds a broader layer to the story, suggesting that Shredder’s journey is no longer just a personal or faction-based conflict—it’s something with much wider implications. Balancing this external pressure with the immediate dangers posed by the Dog Star Clan creates a strong sense of escalation.

The artwork ties everything together exceptionally well. The fusion of technology and organic elements is handled with great detail, especially in the effects of the malware and the resulting physical distortions. The visuals reinforce the horror aspects without overshadowing the action. The use of shadow in the later pages is particularly effective, helping to build atmosphere and leaving the issue on a visually striking note.

Overall, this feels like a strong and confident start to a new arc. It expands the scope of the story, introduces compelling new conflicts, and keeps Shredder at the centre as a calculated and formidable presence. There’s a clear sense that bigger challenges are on the horizon, and it makes what comes next feel all the more intriguing.

Following on from the excellent initial Killtopia arc, Phantoms throws us into the story as we see what came next! There is an excellent framing technique that allows us, as readers, to get straight into the story.

The various characters are well introduced, and I really like the different reactions and factions that are involved in the story. Of course, there is something deeper here, and the plan looks to be an interesting one that draws you in.

The artwork - combining the character expressions and actions - is excellent, along with some brilliant scenery for the Killtopia world.

If you haven’t read the previous story, then check it out, but I would say you can jump straight in and get into this excellent story.

The Story

In Arks Proximan #2, Audie and Anna-Mae Bluford are dead. Their colony on Proxima has been destroyed, and all of it happened because their son Odd pinched a girl - the messenger they found in a beam of light.

But as Odd shelters from radioactive fallout in a cave with his companion A.I Stella, they uncover the truth.

The girl was not a messenger.

She was a bomb sent from Earth.

Now they have only one option.

Odd must set out on a desperate mission across the treacherous, irradiated surface of Proxima B to find a Synth Well on the far side of the exoplanet - in the vain hope that it contains bacteria capable of resurrecting copies of his parents.

The journey will take the rest of Odd’s childhood, and the cancers he’ll develop along the way will likely kill him.

Luckily, he’ll not be alone.

Odd travels with a herd of transplanted animals, two frogs, a snake-like A.I… and Burp - a grotesque, burping backpack that keeps him alive by recycling his own skin and faecal matter.

What is Arks Proximan?

Creator Rory Collins describes Arks Proximan as:

“A bio-punk odyssey - the hero’s journey run amok mixed with the real consequences of the unexplored sciences of science fiction.
It’s part eldritch horror, part Oedipus Rex , and part Forrest Gump , told by a teenage boy at the edge of the universe.”

Collins explained how the project came together with writer Natalie Malla and artist Andrew Morris .

“I grew up on nasty 80s science fiction and there isn’t a lot of it around now,” said Collins.
“ARKS PROXIMAN is about what happens when a child learns the universe doesn’t care if he survives.
It’s inspired by films like Aliens and The Terminator , where the protagonist comes face to face with true nihilistic evil. Natalie and Andrew are phenomenal collaborators. I had the incredible good fortune of knowing them before they become megastars. Without them this story might not have been told for another decade.”

Writer Natalie Malla added:

“ ARKS PROXIMAN is a story of survival - not just of a single family, but of an entire species.
I would never attempt science fiction again without a clear and inspired creative vision like Rory’s at the helm. The scope of that vision pulled me into the Arks universe.

The Origins of ARKS

Collins originally wrote Arks fifteen years ago as an independent science-fiction screenplay.

“Two people running around in the woods,” he explains. “A police procedural set in the Garden of Eden. Hard sci-fi. No bullshit.”

Since adapting the project into comics during the Covid lockdowns, the story has grown into a planned 55-book science-fiction pantheon exploring humanity’s future up to the 37th millennium.

Odd’s story in Proximan marks the beginning of “The War of Light,” the central saga that will ripple across the entire Arks universe.

Publishing Plans

Publisher Clicky Sprout Wife plans to release five books over the next twelve months.

Arks Helices #1 has already shipped, with issues #2 and #3 planned for Kickstarter later this year.

Arks Proximan #2 will ship in August, with Proximan #3 planned for early 2027.

Fans of the original Arks storyline, for which the last instalment is still pending, needn’t worry about this departure, as Arks Issue Six will be coming next year.

Collins assures:

“Arks Issue Six is likely to be our biggest book to date, so we need to grow the audience before we attempt it.”

Arks Helices and Proximan have a slightly more mainstream appeal, so they are being produced first before the nastier events of Arks Issue Six.

Silver returns, and although she isn’t in this issue much, she does make an impact! I like how this was told over time and the way the ordinary people are treated. It will be interesting to see how this moves on.

This issue twisted on the characters really well at the end - it had me grinning as to what may come next, and I like how it was subtly done.

A predictable future Shock, but still entertaining to read. I enjoyed the artwork and the characters' frantic looks. There were some nice jokes about past online history, too.

This was a really dense, eventful issue that manages to balance high-energy action with some genuinely meaningful character development. There’s a lot going on, but it never feels overwhelming—instead, it adds to the sense that everything is building toward something bigger.

Shinigami continues to stand out as a compelling wildcard. There’s a sense that she’s always a step ahead, carefully manipulating events to serve her own agenda. The way she operates through both Karai and Splinter makes her feel especially dangerous, as if she’s pulling strings from the shadows. Her connection to the mystical side of things blends naturally with the more grounded ninja elements, and that fusion gives the issue a unique tone. Splinter’s internal struggle is a key part of that, and seeing his fears manifest and ultimately drive his actions adds a tragic edge—he’s not just fighting enemies, he’s battling himself, and losing.

Visually, the issue is just as strong. The artwork does a great job of keeping up with the pace, giving each scene clarity while still delivering impact. Action sequences feel fluid and dynamic, but quieter moments aren’t neglected either. Every character gets a chance to stand out, which helps reinforce the ensemble nature of the series.

Michelangelo’s role is a highlight here. His subplot adds an emotional layer that contrasts nicely with the chaos elsewhere, and there’s a satisfying payoff to the setup from the previous issue. That moment of confirmation—where he realises he really is meeting who he hoped he was—lands well and gives his story a sense of forward momentum and heart.

Despite how fast things move, the issue still finds time for smaller, more personal interactions. These character and family moments help ground the story, reminding you what’s at stake beyond the immediate conflict. Even Karai, who often comes across as cold and calculating, is given a bit more depth here, showing hints of vulnerability that make her feel more human and conflicted.

The ending really drives everything home. It doesn’t just wrap up the immediate tension—it escalates it. There’s a strong sense that things are about to get worse for everyone involved, both in terms of the current threat and the wider narrative. It leaves you with that classic feeling of anticipation, knowing that the consequences of this issue will ripple out in a big way.

The gang war that’s been quietly escalating in the background now comes roaring to the forefront. You can feel the tension spilling over into full-blown conflict, with gunfights breaking out, territories being contested, and the city starting to fracture under the pressure. It’s not just about the criminals, either—the ripple effects are felt everywhere. The police are scrambling to maintain order, often looking stretched thin, while the media tries to keep up with events as they unfold, adding another layer to how this chaos is being perceived by the public. There’s a sense that no one fully has control anymore, which makes everything feel that much more volatile.

At the centre of it all is Dick Tracy himself, who really comes across as the pivot point for everything happening. He’s not just chasing the story—he is the story. There are forces actively working against him on multiple fronts, targeting both his life and his reputation, and the suggestion that these efforts might be connected—or even coordinated—adds a compelling layer of intrigue. The reaction shots, in particular, stand out—they do a lot of storytelling on their own, capturing the fear, tension and determination of the characters in a way that dialogue alone couldn’t.

All in all, this is a very confident start to a new arc. It builds tension, deepens the mystery, and sets multiple threads in motion, all while delivering plenty of action. If this issue is anything to go by, this is shaping up to be a gripping and fast-moving storyline—definitely the kind of ride you’ll want to get on board with early.

It feels like pieces are being moved into place, even if we don’t yet fully understand how they connect.

Tempus himself makes for an imposing and intriguing antagonist. He immediately comes across as someone operating on a completely different level, not just physically but intellectually and temporally. Space Ghost initially seems outclassed in their encounter, which helps sell the threat. But what makes the confrontation engaging is the way Space Ghost adapts—using his environment and thinking on his feet to gain a small but meaningful advantage. That moment where he manages to get one over on Tempus is especially satisfying, not just as a win, but because it genuinely catches Tempus off guard and hints that he may not have everything as under control as he believes.

The supporting cast also gets its due, which helps balance the scale of the story. Jan and Jace aren’t just bystanders—they actively contribute and show growth, managing to make some headway against an enemy who seems almost untouchable. Their involvement reinforces the team dynamic and keeps the emotional core intact amid all the time-travel spectacle.

What’s particularly effective is how the issue handles its bigger mysteries. Tempus clearly has a larger plan involving Space Ghost—possibly multiple versions of him across time—but the details are kept deliberately vague. That ambiguity works in the story’s favour, adding intrigue without slowing down the momentum. You get the sense that everything matters, even if you can’t yet see the full picture.

At this point, I feel pretty settled into the world of Speed Racer as Mad Cave Studios is building it. Between the main series and Racer X, there’s already a strong foundation in place, and what stands out here is how much room there still is to explore beyond the central storyline. Speed Racer: Tales From The Road really leans into that idea—it broadens the scope of the universe while also acting as a showcase for new creative voices coming through Mad Cave’s talent search. That combination gives the book a slightly experimental edge, but in a good way.

The first story, focusing on Snake Oiler, takes things in an unexpected direction by pulling the action away from the track and dropping it into something that feels almost like a western standoff. After suffering defeats in the main race circuit, we see him in a different environment, and that shift works really well. It adds a bit of grit and personality to the world, showing that racing isn’t the only arena where these rivalries play out. Even though it’s off-track, it still manages to incorporate that high-speed, mechanical energy you’d expect, with a nice spotlight on the cars and their tech. Visually, this story stands out too—the panel work is particularly effective, helping to control the pacing and tension in a way that keeps things engaging throughout.

The tone shifts quite a bit with the T-Banks story, which brings a much brighter, more energetic feel. Set against the backdrop of a movie production, it leans into spectacle and style, with the glitz of the set contrasting nicely with glimpses into her past. Those flashbacks do a lot of heavy lifting in a short space, adding depth to her character without slowing the story down. It ends up being both fun and surprisingly insightful. The colouring really carries this one—it’s bold, vibrant, and full of life, perfectly matching the setting and helping the whole thing feel a bit larger-than-life in the best way.

Then you’ve got the final story with Spritle and Chim-chim, which rounds things out on a much lighter, more comedic note. Their mini-adventure starts off in a pretty relatable way—they’re trying to carve out their own space and get noticed, only to be brushed aside. That setup quickly turns into something more interesting, though, as they stumble onto some shady activity that could have bigger consequences for Speed and the rest of the team. What follows is a mix of chaos and classic slapstick, with the pair getting into all sorts of trouble along the way. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly why it works. The humour lands well, even if the ending leans into a bit of a groan-worthy punchline—but honestly, that feels very in keeping with the spirit of these characters.

Overall, this anthology does a solid job of balancing variety with cohesion. Each story brings something different to the table—whether it’s tone, setting, or character focus—while still feeling like part of the same larger world. It’s a smart way to expand the universe, introduce new perspectives, and give emerging creators a chance to leave their mark. The result is a collection that’s easy to dip into but still adds meaningful texture to the Speed Racer world.

This is an epic first volume that does a huge amount of heavy lifting in pulling you into its world, introducing its characters, and—most importantly—making you actually care about what happens to them.

Right from the opening pages, the stakes are made crystal clear. The demonic hordes aren’t some distant or abstract threat—they’re brutal, immediate, and relentless, cutting through villagers and their families without hesitation. There’s a real sense that nowhere is safe, that humanity is on the back foot, and that survival itself feels like a long shot. That atmosphere of desperation makes the arrival of the big rig feel almost mythic, like an answered prayer in the most literal sense.

And when someone finally steps up to take the wheel, it’s not just a random saviour—it’s this priest/warrior/trucker figure who already carries a lot of personal baggage. He’s not flawless or untouchable, which makes him far more interesting. Alongside his two companions, he doesn’t just defend—he goes on the offensive, taking the fight directly to the demons and their lords. That shift from survival to retaliation is where the story really finds its momentum.

The medieval setting adds a great layer to everything. You’ve got castles, faith, and old-world fears—but smashed together with big rigs, grenades, guns, and chainsaws. It sounds wild on paper, but it works because it fully leans into the idea's chaos. Instead of feeling out of place, the modern weaponry becomes a symbol of humanity finally having an edge against the darkness.

That said, the journey isn’t smooth. There are real bumps along the road for the crew, and the story isn’t afraid to deal in loss and death. What stands out is that none of it feels gratuitous or thrown in just for shock value. The darker moments—whether in the present or glimpsed through the characters’ pasts—add weight and depth. They help ground the more over-the-top elements of the story and remind you what’s at stake emotionally, not just physically.

When it comes to the enemies, the demons serve their purpose well. The hordes are there to be torn through in explosive, high-energy sequences, occasionally landing blows that remind you they’re still dangerous. But it’s the demon lords that really elevate the conflict. Each one presents a unique challenge, forcing the protagonists to adapt and push themselves further. You can feel the escalation as the volume progresses, culminating in a final confrontation that ups the ante in a big way—especially with the introduction of a rival rig, which adds a great mirror dynamic to the fight.

The artwork deserves a lot of credit, too. It’s consistently strong, with excellent use of contrast and colour to bring the world to life. The glowing sigils and effects stand out without overwhelming the panels, and the use of red in particular helps emphasise key moments—violence, danger, and intensity—without becoming repetitive. Character designs are distinct and expressive across the board, whether human or demonic, and you can really read their emotions in the details.

Overall, this first volume works brilliantly as an introduction. It throws you straight into the action but never leaves you lost, giving just enough context and character work to keep everything engaging and coherent. By the time you reach the end, you feel like you’ve been on a full journey—there’s a sense of payoff and satisfaction—but there’s also a clear hook for what comes next. It leaves you wanting more without feeling incomplete, which is exactly what a first volume should do.

Crystal is immediately established as a flawed and very human protagonist. Her questionable taste in men isn’t just mentioned in passing; it actively drives the plot forward. The decision to leave yet another bad relationship feels like a step in the right direction for her, but it quickly spirals into something far more dangerous. The mix-up with the bag is a simple but effective catalyst, and it’s handled in a way that feels believable rather than forced.

That mistake carries real weight because of who the bag belongs to. The local gang boss is introduced not through exposition, but through the consequences of crossing him. There’s no illusion that this will be resolved calmly—his presence looms heavily over the issue, and the threat he poses is clear without needing excessive explanation.

One of the strongest aspects of the issue is how the tension builds. The escalation is gradual and methodical, as the gang traces the bag step by step. Each stage feels deliberate, showing how efficiently and ruthlessly they operate. By the time the trail leads to Crystal at her workplace and then to her daughter, the stakes have risen significantly. It’s not just about a misplaced item anymore—it’s personal, and the danger feels immediate.

The ending of the issue does a great job of shifting the narrative from setup to anticipation. With her daughter now directly in harm’s way, the story naturally pivots toward what Crystal is going to do next—and, more intriguingly, who or what kind of help she’s going to rely on. Visually, the artwork complements the story's tone nicely. There’s a strong contrast between the harsh, gritty elements of the criminal underworld and the stark, almost oppressive presence of the snow. The cold, white backdrop adds an extra layer of atmosphere, reinforcing both the isolation and the tension running through the narrative.

Overall, this is a confident and engaging start. It introduces its characters effectively, establishes a clear threat, and sets the stage for what appears to be a tense, character-driven story.

Rather than rushing headlong into a sprawling new arc, it takes a moment to lay the groundwork, giving us a clear sense of who these characters are now, where they stand, and how their relationships have shifted in this updated status quo. It’s less about spectacle and more about orientation, which works in its favour.

We pick up with Flash back on Earth, but not in the way longtime fans might expect. He’s grounded—both literally and figuratively. The days of him being the galaxy-hopping adventurer seem to be behind him, at least for now. Instead, he’s been repositioned as a teacher, tasked with guiding the next generation in this more structured, spacefaring era. It’s a smart evolution of the character, but you can feel how uncomfortable he is in that role. Flash isn’t someone who thrives behind a desk or within a rigid system, and there’s a clear sense that he feels out of place—like a relic struggling to keep up with a world that’s moved on technologically and philosophically. The classroom just doesn’t suit him, and the comic leans into that tension nicely.

Naturally, the solution to that is to get him out of the classroom—and that’s where the field trip comes in. This is where the issue really comes alive. It serves a dual purpose: not only does it get Flash back into space (where he belongs), but it also lets him demonstrate, in a hands-on way, what makes him Flash Gordon. It’s not just about piloting a ship or handling advanced tech—it’s about instinct, bravery, and knowing how to react when faced with the unknown. These are things you can’t really teach from a textbook, and the story does a good job of showing that contrast.

At the same time, the field trip introduces us to the students who will likely form the backbone of this new era. We get glimpses of their individual personalities, skill sets, and how they respond under pressure. It’s not overly heavy-handed, but there’s enough there to suggest that each of them will have a role to play moving forward. You can already start to see the dynamics forming, which is promising for future issues.

Outside of Flash, the supporting cast is also repositioned in interesting ways. Dale, in particular, has stepped into a more managerial role, and she seems far more comfortable adapting to this new structure than Flash is. There’s a sense of confidence and acceptance in her that contrasts nicely with Flash’s reluctance. Meanwhile, Zarkov’s absence is felt—he’s mentioned, but not present, with hints of disagreements or unresolved issues keeping him off the board for now. That’s an intriguing thread to leave hanging, and it adds a bit of mystery to the setup.

As a #0 issue, this comic also does what it needs to in terms of teasing what’s ahead. It doesn’t overcommit to a single direction, instead planting several seeds that could grow into future storylines. That flexibility gives readers time to settle into this new version of the world while still building anticipation for what’s coming next. He looks a little different from how he looked in 2000. Originally, he was a parody character, but soon his own lore began to develop around him. This is certainly an interesting beginning to a new series. Wonder Man has had some cameos in various series, but here he is on his own.

On his own? Not quite as there is an entertaining supporting cast here along with some different situations that you would expect in a superhero comic!

We've got Hollywood, agents, Hellcat and a mystery. This also nods to the recent East Coast Avengers series and a nice flashback and snide comment about Moon Knight. I especially liked the flashback scenes and how there are framed on the page.

In all, with excellent art, colours and a unique story, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Cabra’s creator/writer Sam Johnson (Geek-Girl, The Almighties) describes The Infinite – which Cabra is abusing by using it for her own ends – as ‘Limbo’s crazy cousin, locked away in the attic.’

Johnson fills us in on Cabra’s relationship with the bizarre dimension; “Cabra Cini routinely utilizes her bastardized version of voodoo magik to access The Infinite as a dimensional gateway between where she is and wherever she wants to go. A boon for Cabra in finding her targets. However, The Infinite’s Ruler, The Rook, doesn’t appreciate her abusing his dimension this way, and throws everything he can at her, physically and psychologically, to ‘dissuade’ her from doing so. Cabra’s unfazed by this – despite the damage it’s doing to her.

“Meanwhile,” Johnson continues, “Cabra hasn’t let anyone get close to her in a long time, after what she went through with her ex, and has kept Geoff at arm’s length. But the two have been spending more time together, and Geoff wants to take things to the next level.

“And just as this is happening, insane white supremacist White Out – who, based on urban legend, may or may not be a ghost - is making his presence felt in Cabra’s Detroit neighborhood – offering the upper-classes an opportunity to rid the place of its ‘less desirable elements’... When White Out’s actions impact on Cabra and Geoff, the ‘Voodoo Lady’ gets involved – and things will never be same again for she and her would-be-lover.

“Cabra has broken free of her old life, and is a badass, independent, strong woman,” continues Johnson, before concluding ominously, “With what’s coming her way in her Graphic Novel, she’s going to need to be.”

Fangbanger: The SUPERPOSITION Anthology is a collection of gothic and emotional short comics inspired by the band’s first and only album, SUPERPOSITION. Each story explores themes of lost identity, innocence, dreams, and the fragile sense of safety that comes with youth, told through supernatural, symbolic, and character-driven narratives.

The album was completed with band members Alex Devill and Kate Panik, but released after their passing, giving the music a deeper and more reflective meaning. This anthology expands those themes into visual storytelling, acting as a companion piece that honors the spirit of the album while standing on its own. The project is about growth, memory, and the strange, beautiful process of becoming someone new after everything changes. This campaign helps turn the music into something tangible and lasting—a book that carries those emotions forward.

Contributors to this expansive anthology include veteran comics writer, B. An interesting beginning and some serious escalation here. Judge Dredd is equal in his justice, but it looks like there is going to be some serious opposition here. I like the real-world nods in this story.

Great to see the return of Helium, and I liked the build-up and the quick move into the mission. The attack was interesting and a lot more violent than I expected!

An excellent one-shot here with a bit of a nod and wink at the end that can lead into something more, maybe?

Some interesting questions being asked here, along with the questioning of Lauren. I get the feeling there is something deeper here - maybe I’m just paranoid with this story. Nevertheless, there is some good build here.

ROGUE TROOPER // ENEMY MINED by Andi Ewington (w) Karl Richardson (a) Rob Steen (l)

An enjoyable Rogue Trooper one-shot here, with some excellent action, some clever work for Rogue and the robot. I like the slight mistrust here, and it all works out well (for Nu-Earth that is!)
