The recently resurrected Dracula, one of the world’s greatest monsters and most infamous vampires, is hell-bent on redemption. The mission he takes to make that redemption possible? Teaming up with British Allied forces during World War II. Out this week from IDW Publishing and its Dark imprint, Iron Coffin #1 throws one of mythology’s most iconic monsters headfirst into one of history’s darkest regimes — and somehow makes the pairing feel completely natural.

The setup alone is enough to grab attention. Dracula finds himself unleashed on a heavily fortified Nazi train packed with soldiers, occult threats, and increasingly dangerous enemies designed to slow him down. It gives the comic an almost video game-style structure, with wave after wave of cannon fodder thrown into the path of a predator who is usually the thing people fear most. Watching Dracula carve through the ranks is brutal, stylish, and exactly as over-the-top as it needs to be.

What makes the issue more interesting than simple bloodshed, though, is the angle taken with Dracula himself. Following his defeat at the hands of Jonathan Harker, he’s no longer simply revelling in evil. A brief glimpse into the afterlife — and the punishment waiting for him there — pushes him toward something resembling redemption. He wants to prove he can change, and in his mind, wiping out monsters in human form is the place to start. That leads to the unusual alliance with the Allies as they attempt to eliminate Nazi operatives dabbling in forces beyond their control.

The comic balances its action well with character and mythology. The train assault is relentless, but the creative team smartly breaks up the violence with flashbacks, exposition, and bits of history that flesh out Dracula’s motivations. The action scenes do a great job of selling his supernatural abilities too — not just raw strength, but terrifying speed and efficiency. He tears through ordinary soldiers effortlessly, reinforcing that this is still Dracula at the height of his power.

One standout moment comes during a discussion about what truly defines a monster. In the middle of all the slaughter, the comic pauses long enough to ask whether creatures like Dracula are really worse than the humans committing atrocities around him. It’s a strong thematic beat that gives the issue a little more weight beneath all the gore.

Of course, Dracula doesn’t have an entirely easy ride. As the issue progresses, he encounters a much more dangerous opponent — one tied deeply into mythology and religious power structures that could actually threaten him. That escalation helps prevent the book from becoming repetitive and leaves the issue on a strong hook heading into the next chapter.

Meanwhile, the comic wisely spends time establishing the larger antagonists behind the train itself. Rather than keeping them faceless, the issue gives them enough panel time for readers to understand their motives and the wider threat they represent. The final reveal adds another layer to the conflict and raises the stakes considerably moving forward.

Visually, the book is full of energy. The artwork has a real kinetic feel during the action scenes, and the colour work leans heavily into deep reds and harsh shadows, which perfectly suits the tone. The pacing is probably the issue’s biggest strength overall — it moves quickly without feeling rushed, constantly feeding the reader just enough action, lore, and character detail to stay invested.

Overall, Iron Coffin #1 delivers exactly what it promises: a violent, supernatural war story with a surprisingly thoughtful take on Dracula. It’s fast, bloody, entertaining, and leaves plenty of reasons to come back for the next issue.

This new graphic novel is an excellent one-shot read. With an interesting – and slightly relevant – setup, we get into the crux of the matter very quickly, but not before laying the groundwork for everything that follows. It immediately presents a mystery that hooks you in, encouraging you to wonder exactly where the story is heading before gradually revealing its hand.

What follows is an excellent sci-fi adventure that successfully blends physical action, family relationships and classic science fiction ideas into one engaging package. It feels like the sort of story that wears its influences proudly while still carving out its own identity. There are some clever action sequences throughout, but it is the twists along the way that really stand out. By the time you reach the ending, you can’t help but think back to those opening pages and realise that several clues were there all along. It’s the sort of storytelling that rewards paying attention.

The storytelling during the introduction is particularly clever. Rather than simply dumping exposition onto the reader, it carefully feeds information at just the right pace before unveiling the potential visitors. The timing of this reveal works extremely well, creating intrigue without overstaying its welcome. From there, the focus shifts towards the family dynamic, with long-buried secrets and unanswered questions gradually coming to the surface. These revelations don’t just exist for the sake of adding drama either—they tie directly back into the opening scenes, making the entire narrative feel well planned and satisfying.

Despite all the mystery and character development, the book certainly isn’t lacking when it comes to action. The buildup to the main confrontation is handled well, allowing the tension to rise naturally before everything explodes into life. The payoff is satisfying, with the battle delivering exciting moments while also advancing the story rather than simply existing as spectacle. I also enjoyed the clever use of what is essentially Chekhov’s Gun—except here it’s the swords hanging above the fireplace that eventually come into play. It’s a fun twist on a familiar storytelling device and another example of how the book rewards readers who notice the smaller details.

The artwork complements the story perfectly. It embraces plenty of classic science fiction imagery, from rockets and robots to futuristic technology, while contrasting it against more grounded locations and societies that lack advanced technology. That contrast helps reinforce the themes running throughout the book, showing two very different worlds colliding. Even the costume designs reflect this balance, with characters looking distinctive while visually representing the different cultures and technological levels they come from. The action scenes are easy to follow, and the quieter family moments are given just as much care, helping the emotional beats land effectively.

Overall, this is a thoroughly enjoyable graphic novel that tells a complete and satisfying story in a single volume. It mixes adventure, mystery, family drama and science fiction in equal measure, with enough twists to keep you engaged from beginning to end. The crowdfunding origins give it an independent charm, but the storytelling itself is polished and confident throughout. Fans of classic sci-fi adventures, as well as readers who enjoy the punchy, twist-driven tales found in the Future Shocks from 2000 AD, should find plenty to enjoy here.

In addition to the excellent ongoing Red Sonja series, this week we get an excellent one-shot adventure.

Filled with action, mystery and magic, this fits well with Sonja, even when she is in disguise. Tasked with guarding a wedding party, things rapidly go downhill for the celebrations as there are attacks and robberies. The magic aspect was well played, as was the twist in the reveal in the story – suspect everyone.

With swords, arrows, betrayal and dragons to go along with everything else, there is some excellent artwork here, with some big scenes to make this feel like a blockbuster!

Do you have what it takes to be a 2000 AD creator? We’re looking for the best new talent to join The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic as the 2000 AD Talent Search returns for Thought Bubble Comic Convention 2026!

This is our annual search for the next generation of great new comics talent – with the prize of paid work with the comic book 2000 AD, where legendary creators such as Alan Moore, Jock, Brian Bolland, Al Ewing, Si Spurrier, DaNi, Charlie Adlard and many more got their big break. This is the only Talent Search of its kind anywhere in the World, in partnership with Thought Bubble UK – and exclusive to the Festival!

Previous winners like Rory McConville, Laura Bailey, Tom Foster, Honor Vincent, Sinu Senan and Will Morris have all gone to regular work with the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic and beyond – and you could be joining them! An interesting twist here, and I wonder how long this will last. I like the nods towards the world we know and where we are now. This change in location for Dredd is excellent. I wonder if this will become an age reboot for Dredd?

A lot of talking here, but it moves the story on fast and adds some interesting new dimensions to the whole Brink tale. The fallout from this meeting will be interesting. I loved the dialogue here.

Some setting up here, and the fightback is on. I like the use of rebellion here, and Fairfax looks to go his own way. It will be interesting to see where this builds up to.

Some interesting backstory here of the Firedrake, and there is a mini-twist that makes it all the more interesting. I loved that reveal at the end.

Anderson continues to be stubborn, and that is what we love about the character. A good link into the main story here, and it looks like all the separate parts are getting closer.

I started reading this issue with a little trepidation. I really enjoyed the classic film, and whenever a much-loved movie receives a continuation years later, there’s always that worry that it won’t quite capture the magic of the original. Thankfully, those concerns didn’t last long, because this first issue feels like a genuine continuation of the story rather than a nostalgic retread.

What immediately stood out was how well it embraces the spirit of the film while expanding the universe around it. Instead of simply revisiting familiar faces and locations, it builds upon the sci-fi concepts introduced in the original and adds fresh lore that gives the galaxy a much greater sense of scale. It still feels unmistakably like The Last Starfighter, but there’s plenty here to suggest this series has ambitions beyond simply recreating what came before.

Following the events of the film, the Star League has been left in ruins after the devastation of its forces, leaving Alex with the enormous task of helping rebuild what has been lost. That isn’t just a case of replacing ships; it’s about restoring hope and finding a new generation of starfighters capable of defending the Frontier. It’s a logical next step for the story and immediately creates plenty of opportunities for conflict and adventure.

I was especially pleased to see the return of the arcade game as a recruitment tool. It’s such an iconic part of the original film, and here it feels like a natural continuation rather than a throwaway reference. The recruitment programme ties neatly into the growing threat facing the Federation, giving the story a familiar hook while reinforcing that danger is never far away. By the end of the issue, it’s clear that whatever is coming will require far more than a handful of experienced pilots.

Maggie also gets far more to do than simply supporting Alex, which I really appreciated. She has her own mission, her own lessons to learn and what feels like the beginning of a journey that could become just as important as Alex’s. Giving her that independence makes her a much stronger character and adds another engaging thread to follow as the series progresses.

Alongside the returning cast, we’re introduced to several new characters who all bring something different to the table. There are leaders trying to keep what’s left of the Star League together, mysterious figures hinting at darker events to come and subtle omens that suggest much bigger forces are beginning to move behind the scenes. It’s a surprisingly packed opening issue, yet it never feels overcrowded. Every new element serves to build anticipation for what’s coming next rather than distracting from the main story.

The artwork is equally impressive. The creative team captures the likenesses of the original characters without making them look like traced screenshots from the film, allowing the comic to establish its own visual identity. The alien species, spacecraft and new worlds are all beautifully realised, giving the universe a richness that the film could only hint at. There are plenty of eye-catching sci-fi visuals throughout, and the final pages promise that the action is only going to escalate from here.

By the time I reached the end, I was left wanting to jump straight into the next issue, which is exactly what you want from the opening chapter of a new series. It successfully honours the legacy of the original film while confidently carving out its own place in the mythology. Long-time fans should find plenty to enjoy, while the new ideas and expanded scope suggest there’s a lot more to discover. If this opening issue is anything to go by, The Last Starfighter looks set to be a worthy successor to the film and the start of an exciting new adventure.

This issue does exactly what you want from the opening chapter of a new series. It introduces the world, establishes the main character, lays out the central mystery, and still finds time to deliver plenty of action and intrigue along the way. By the time I reached the final page, I was already invested in both James Crowley and the dark secrets lurking within Dead Acre.

Crowley immediately comes across as a compelling protagonist. The revelation that he has already died and been brought back with a new purpose gives him an interesting edge from the outset. He’s not simply another gunslinger riding into town looking for trouble; he’s a man with a supernatural mission, tasked with hunting demons and setting wrongs right wherever he finds them. There is a sense that he carries a heavy burden, and while we only get glimpses of his past and his new role, it is enough to make you want to learn more about him.

As Crowley arrives in Dead Acre, the atmosphere shifts quickly. Something clearly isn’t right in the town, and the creative team does a great job of building that feeling of unease. The mystery surrounding the disturbed graves and the missing townsfolk immediately raises questions, while the locals’ reluctance to talk creates an added layer of tension. There is an almost classic Western feeling to it all, with an outsider arriving in a close-knit community that would rather keep its secrets buried.

Of course, not everyone is content to stay silent. Beneath the suspicion and hostility are people genuinely worried about what has happened, and Crowley finds himself drawn into helping them. That balance between supernatural horror and human drama works particularly well here. The missing people and desecrated graves are frightening enough on their own, but the possibility that something far darker is responsible elevates the threat considerably.

The pacing is another strength. While this issue spends time establishing the setting and mystery, it never feels slow. There is always something happening, whether it is Crowley gathering information, tensions rising among the townsfolk, or fists flying in a wonderfully entertaining saloon brawl. No Western feels complete without a good bar fight, and this one delivers exactly the kind of rough-and-tumble action you would hope for. It also serves as another opportunity to showcase Crowley’s abilities and personality.

Visually, the book captures the tone perfectly. The artwork embraces the grit and dust of the Western setting while also leaning into the darker supernatural elements. The action scenes have plenty of impact, and the roughness of the environment helps make Dead Acre feel like a real place with a troubled history. The supernatural moments are especially effective, standing out without feeling out of place. Small touches such as the glowing eyes and eerie visual cues hint that forces beyond human understanding are at work.

The final pages provide a particularly strong hook. The mysterious vision in the mirror and the continued hints surrounding the town’s secrets leave plenty of unanswered questions, ensuring that readers will want to return for the next chapter. It teases just enough of the bigger picture without giving away too much, which is exactly what a first issue should do.

Overall, Dead Acre: Black Badge #1 is a strong opening that successfully blends Western action, supernatural horror, and mystery. With an intriguing lead character, a town full of secrets, and hints of something far more sinister lurking beneath the surface, it lays the foundations for what could be a very entertaining series. Gritty artwork, fun action, and a compelling core mystery all combine to make this a debut issue that sticks with you.

Jumping into the world of Excavator, I was immediately reminded of the feeling I had when first reading The Hobbit. There is that same sense of a quiet, almost sleepy setting sitting on the edge of something much bigger and far more dangerous. Life seems relatively simple on the surface, but there are hints that the wider world is full of mysteries, threats and adventures waiting to be uncovered.

I felt that most strongly through Boone. He is an easy character to connect with, carrying his own worries, dreams and imagination while trying to navigate a world that is clearly far larger than he realises. Like many great fantasy heroes, he starts out unaware of the bigger picture, but the reader can already see that forces are moving around him that will eventually drag him into something much greater.

Across these first three issues, the balance between character development and action is handled extremely well. There is always something happening, whether it is a confrontation with one of the many strange creatures that inhabit this world or a new revelation that pushes the story forward. What I particularly enjoyed was that the enemies never felt generic. Each creature and foe seems to have its own purpose and motivations, making the world feel more alive and believable rather than simply presenting obstacles for Boone to overcome.

Thankfully, Boone does not have to face everything alone. The introduction of Ozzie and Opal adds a lot to the story, both in terms of personality and intrigue. Boone’s kindness and good nature naturally draw others towards him, making the formation of this group feel genuine. At the same time, Ozzie and Opal are far from straightforward companions. There are clear indications that both are carrying baggage from their pasts and are running from problems of their own. Those unanswered questions add another layer of mystery to the narrative and make me eager to learn more about them.

By the end of the third issue, I found myself completely invested in both the story and its characters. The series does an excellent job of pulling the reader into its world, giving just enough information to keep things moving while leaving plenty of mysteries unsolved. The cast is highly likeable and varied, and the sense that we have only scratched the surface of this setting is one of the comic’s greatest strengths. There is a genuine feeling that countless adventures, secrets and dangers still lie beyond the horizon.

The artwork deserves a huge amount of praise as well. With such a large and diverse cast of characters, it would have been easy for designs to become repetitive, but every character feels distinctive and memorable. The facial expressions are particularly strong, helping to sell both the emotional and humorous moments throughout the story. The environments are equally impressive, ranging from familiar settings to fantastical locations that help bring the world to life. Combined with vibrant colouring and crisp lettering, the visual presentation consistently enhances the storytelling and makes every page a pleasure to spend time with. The creative team has built a world that feels rich, inviting and full of possibilities, and after these first three issues I am very eager to see where Boone’s journey leads next.

Killer Influences #1 from IDW Publishing taps into the current fascination with true crime podcasts and blends it with the atmosphere of a struggling small town mystery, creating a first issue that steadily pulls the reader deeper into its world before delivering a strong final-page hook. Rather than relying purely on shock value, the comic builds tension through atmosphere, character interactions, and the growing feeling that something is deeply wrong beneath the surface of this industrial town.

The writing does an excellent job of immersing the reader in the setting almost immediately. The town itself feels worn down, tired, and filled with secrets, with the industrial backdrop hanging over everything like a constant shadow. There’s a sense that everyone knows more than they are willing to admit, which gives the story an uneasy tension from the start. As the mystery surrounding the disappearances develops, the comic gradually reveals just enough information to keep curiosity high without giving away too much too early.

At the centre of the story is Kylie, who works well as the main point-of-view character because she feels grounded and relatable. She is trying to carve out her own path while also getting drawn into the darker truths surrounding the town. Her determination gives the story momentum, especially as it becomes increasingly clear that the authorities are either unwilling or unable to properly investigate what’s happening. The idea that people are vanishing while the local police appear ineffective — or possibly complicit — creates an underlying paranoia that drives the narrative forward.

The dynamic between Kylie and Melvin is another strong aspect of the issue. Their partnership develops naturally over the course of the story, and the gradual way they come together makes their interactions feel believable rather than forced. There’s an interesting contrast between the two characters, and their growing connection helps anchor the mystery in something more personal. The comic spends a good amount of time setting up its relationship and the wider cast, but it never feels slow because every interaction seems to lay the groundwork for future revelations. By the time the final page arrives, the issue successfully shifts the story into a much larger and more dangerous direction, leaving plenty of questions about where things could go next.

The supporting cast also helps make the town feel lived-in and authentic. Small details involving family members, the deadbeat brother, the police force, and even the local librarian add texture to the story and make the setting feel believable. These characters don’t simply exist to fill space; they each contribute to the atmosphere of suspicion, frustration, or local history that surrounds the mystery. Even with so many moving parts being introduced, the pacing remains confident and controlled throughout.

Visually, the artwork captures the story's tone perfectly. The grimy bars, neglected streets, and shadowy back alleys reinforce the feeling of a town left behind, while the looming industrial structures in the background constantly remind the reader of the environment shaping these characters’ lives. The art leans into the gritty realism of the setting while still maintaining strong visual storytelling and clear character expression. Altogether, the visuals and writing work hand in hand to create a compelling and atmospheric opening chapter.

Overall, this is a very strong and cleverly constructed debut issue. It successfully combines crime-thriller elements, modern true-crime culture, and small-town mystery into something that feels engaging and timely. By the end, the story leaves enough unanswered questions and looming danger to make the next issue feel essential.

As I said above, a tough week, but then when this happens, I go back to what comic stuck with me the most after reading it.

In this case, it was Bludwire #1, which had an excellent introduction to the world and the type of action we can expect to read in the rest of the story.

With some compelling characters, the duo seem an interesting match. I like their differences and the real love between them. Combined with the violent rescue attempt, and you get something for everyone.

There is still a lot to take in for this story, but this initial issue gives you enough to start you off and wonder what happens next.

There is some excellent art, and the location, along with the characters and tech involved, makes this an excellent read.

Time Bomb Comics is delighted to announce that anthology main stay, Space Banshee Exorcist, will be collected and published as a graphic novel this year. The new book will bring together the full-length story which previously ran in Quantum, along with a rework of the first Space Banshee Exorcist story that originally appeared in Brawler. The latter was originally drawn by Grace Toscano, but has been redrawn by series artist Danielle Wiebe specially for this collection.

Space Banshee Exorcist follows the titular Space Banshee, Fenshaw, as she works as an exorcist, travelling across a far future, ultra-capitalistic galaxy, fighting monsters and saving humans. Previous stories have seen her battling kelpies and krakens. In her first full-length graphic novel, she is sent to the mysterious medical testing moon, Morrigan, by a pharmaceutical inventor to find out why his clones are disappearing and to kill whatever creature is responsible. Fenshaw quickly realises that things are darker than she anticipated and must navigate her own place in the universe at the same time as doing her job.

Created by writer Katie Cunningham as her second project at Time Bomb Comics after the original graphic novel Rotten Under the Snow, Space Banshee Exorcist first appeared in Brawler #1 in 2020. With artist Danielle Wiebe joining from the second story in Brawler #2, the comic quickly found a fanbase. This includes Time Bomb’s publisher, Steve Tanner:

Flipping out in the city, this was an interesting part, and the links to what we know make this a great supernatural mystery. I like the use of the characters and how this adds a new dimension to the story.

Adding some more mystery that we are partially aware of. I like the setup and it adds to what we saw last issue. That, on top of the mission going awry, makes this a deep dive into the Brink story.

A slower issue, but important. I like the use of the Chief Judge and the long walk being something we are aware of in the regular Dredd world. The art colours make the bleakness feel right, and I’m interested to see where this goes.

Back to this world and some nice links to the last story arc. There is still much to learn about this world, and I like how it pulls in some historical figures. The ending was unexpected, and I like how it was framed.

Anderson is a great addition to this story, and it makes a lot of sense. I like the use of her powers and how it adds to the dark tower over the city.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder #9

Accompanied by his new, semi reluctant, and now non-cybernetic partner, Hoshimi, Shredder ventures into Koji’s hideout to meet the man behind the virus infecting the Dog Star Clan. But is Koji really the one pulling the tendrils? Or is there someone or something even more terrifying hiding within these walls?! Meanwhile, Agent Avon’s back-channel maneuverings begin to bear fruit.

This was an action-packed issue! With Shredder looking to attack and win the hearts and powers of the Dog Star Clan, but an alien parasite on the opposite side.

There is a nice little flashback on the finding of the alien itself and the way that the Dog Star Clan was under its control, which leads us up nicely to where we are now.

Shredder is at his best here, and although there were some interesting cracks about his age and possible physical condition, he gets the job done. Of course, there are some wrinkles in the plan, and with the EDF after his head, that makes this attack all the more risky…

Shredder always has a plan, though, and this pretty much works out as expected – with a little problem, which will take some dealing with in an excellent cliffhanger for the next issue.

This continues to be an excellent series, and the art blends the fighting with the alien attacks – then there is the EDF working in the shadows. There is a well-plotted blend of colours too.

Finishing the mini series with some excellent action and a decent amount of fun. This was a great read and highly enjoyable. All the main characters get time to shine. We get a good mix of air action and some big action too as Kong takes on the current king, Bloodscar.

The art is a lot of fun and well-suited for the style of the comic and the action within. Especially with the special cameos of Popeye and Tintin1.

The issue finishes with some excellent resolutions and is an perfect match for the the Rocketeer mythos.

The Scream Halloween Special 2026 Brings Vengeful Violence This October

Building up for the spooky season already with a preview from Rebellion of the Scream Halloween Special 2026.

October 2026 will see the return of the Eisner-Nominated horror anthology Scream! Featuring a gruesome cadre of twisted storytellers, The Scream! Halloween Special 2026 will show you the true meaning of fear across 48 ghastly and grotesque pages! Scream! has been delivering chills to once-innocent readers for over forty years, horrifying generations of comic fans with tales to make your squirm with pleasure and disgust! In this issue, we see the absolute madness of Pastor Grant – he is a well-written, horrible character, and this issue is particularly satisfying. The issue does an excellent job in building up the tension to a point and then softens with an interesting tease for the future.

Yes, there is more to come from Nectar, and this issue took a twist I was not expecting, but from re-reading the beginning, it makes some sense. The future is confirmed for this series, and I am looking forward to seeing more of it.

This issue starts where we left off in issue #3, and things are equally as tense. Pastor Grant is armed and on a mission; Amos is the devil in his eyes, with science being his tool. The standoff is extreme, and the way it plays out builds it up until there is a very unexpected change.

This change mixes up everything that we have read leading up to it, and the rest of the story deals with the fallout and the decisions of that fallout really well. It also leads us to what comes next.

This was an excellent finish to the first act of this story, giving some closure and action while teasing us with what is to come – in a sense, a double tease here.

The artwork is excellent, and the manic looks in Pastor Grant’s eyes to his explosive finale make this a well-crafted book. That, combined with the colouring, sets the tone of what you see.

An excellent introduction to the characters and the state of the world in which they live. It has some excellent suspense, and I enjoyed the way some of the timing of the panels worked.

Ace’s rescue looks to be planned well, but of course there are some spoilers on the horizon – including the police and their robotic aid. There seems to be some difference in the robots and their roles – that will make moving forward interesting in this story.

I particularly like the way the relationship between Ace and Zora is shown. They seem to be different, but there is something that has drawn them together.

There is some excellent art here, and special mention to the lettering, which added well to the story.

I will be carrying on with this one!

As the Order of Nine tightens its net, Genshi rushes to prevent an assassination, only to spring a deadly trap that ends in mass bloodshed and a spectacular explosion.

Outmatched and outmanoeuvred, he’s left with more questions than answers as the enemy proves just how far ahead they really are.

This was an action-packed issue as Genshi looks to get ahead of those who are targeting him.

He’s cleverly worked out that he may not be the only target and looks to remedy the situation and stop the Order of Nine. Things don’t go to plan, and the only advantage is that as readers we get some excellent action with some brilliant high-octane artwork.

The ending leaves things out there and at an interesting point. There seems to be more to this.

Internally Genshi is still fighting his own internal battle, and the use of this was well played and makes for a multi-layered read.

When a post-human empowered by a stolen top secret formula is spotted in Hawaii and connected with a brash string of robberies, the 51 crew is dispatched to deal with the situation.

But what they discover about the origin of the raid on Area 51 will leave them reeling!

After all that had been going on, this was an interesting side quest in the search for all that had been released from Area 51. There is the bigger story happening, and that makes a big play at the end of the issue, but the majority of the story is a one-shot.

With a new superhuman, using stolen drugs, causing his own kind of problems, the team have to do their best to stop it. It kicks off well with the tease and then shows us how we got there.

Even ending on a reasonably nice, although funny, note before the end cliffhanger.

There is a continuation of the excellent art and colouring with some brilliant, electric scenes that make this an entertaining read.

Exploit #4

The final issue of Exploit halts and CATCHES FIRE as Kirby, Lenox and their danger pals stage a daring heist at Datum Tower with the whole world watching.

Predatory tech billionaire Clark Kincaid is doing amazing, and his evil scheme is finally falling into place. Can anyone stop him and his political cronies as they roll out the architecture for a technofascist state, with infinite money and power on their side?

No one reasonable, certainly. But Mr. Ipsum isn’t reasonable. He promised revenge. And he’s already inside the building.

An excellent finish to the story. With a clever aspect at the beginning that links in nicely to the revenge and goal of the heist. There are some tense moments and some little additional factors that make it worthwhile.

I like how the cast of the characters works out, and the ending was well played and adds something for a possible future if wanted.

There is some excellent artwork here, including some clever crowd scenes that add to the overall tension.

This has been a great series.

Vault Announces Cryptid Sci-Fi Comic Series, Project Perseus, By Jack Mulqueen And Edison Neo

News on a new series with Vault Comics launching a new cryptid sci-fi comic, Project Perseus.

Vault is thrilled to announce Project Perseus, an epic new cryptid science-fiction comic book series. Written by break out writer Jack Mulqueen, drawn by rising star Edison Neo, colored by Kike J. Díaz, lettered by Buddy Beaudoin, and designed by Tim Daniel, Project Perseus will bring readers a stylish and hilarious adventure across treacherous jungles, frozen oceans, and deadly dive bars.

In Project Perseus, it’s a race against time! When a disgraced member of a cryptid hunting squadron vanishes with a time-traveling apparatus, Slug Stephens must sober up from a decade-long bender to track down an all-too-familiar friend turned foe.

“This story was born from a desire to tell a tale that could only be told in the medium of comics,” said Mulqueen. “At the time when the story was conceived, there was a lot of discourse regarding the medium of comics being used as an IP farm for other mediums, people using comics as spec-scripts and proof of concept, in hopes their work would get optioned to television or film. From the start, we knew we wanted to tell a story that would be so batshit insane, that it would be prohibitively expensive to recreate it in any other medium, and therefore, it would be a story that would belong singularly to comics.”

“Having that clarity of purpose, that creative freedom from the jump, I knew that my obligation was to truly push the artistic limits of my creative partner, Edison Neo,” continued Mulqueen. “To my dismay, I discovered that his limits do not exist... And at that juncture, I discovered a new type of freedom… That I could put anything in my script, and he would bring it to life with an excellence beyond my imagination. What remains, when the ectoplasmic dust settles, is a story that we believe encapsulates the unbridled joy of making comics, and our hopes are that that joy translates to the reading experience as well. It’s campy, it has comedy, it has jaw-dropping action sequences that will leave you poring over each and every detail, and it’s got a beating heart… truisms universal within the human experience. We had a lot of fun making this book, and can’t wait for the readers to join us for the ride.”

“Jack approached me with the idea for Project Perseus about four years ago,” added Neo. “Hunting cryptids all over the world, even involving time travel to different eras? It was totally in my wheelhouse, I was completely sold. Since then, we have been putting every effort into fleshing out this idea into the biggest, craziest, most action-packed story we could ever imagine, and as the fantasy of the book coming to life became reality, we went even harder and went several notches higher. Beyond the bombastic nature of the story, however, it would be nothing if it were not centered around a cast of rich and nuanced characters.”

“As an artist, I wanted to test my limits and see how far I could stretch my abilities,” expanded Neo. “Fortunately, working with a wildly imaginative writer like Jack, that was the biggest thing on the menu. With exotic landscapes, unique creatures, and colorful characters put in all sorts of crazy situations, I had my work cut out for me. We drew a lot of inspiration from sci-fi movies and video games, but make no mistake, the biggest inspiration was from comics. Deliberations about double-page spreads, panel layouts, covers, even down to the onomatopoeia, we wanted to make sure that this was a comic book through and through, and we are looking forward to everyone being able to pick this off the stands.”

Project Perseus will debut this September with a giant 40 page first issue that will also feature a line of variant covers by a murderers row of legendary artists including Esad Ribic, Brett Bean, Jorge Corona, Garth Graham, and Pete Caroll.
