The addition of a spin-off from the Absolute Batman story seems quite natural, and this new series has some excellent links to the story while standing strongly on its own.

Catwoman had left Gotham behind, but there are still some links there. From comments about her abilities in a fight to the friend she left behind. There’s a deeper backstory with Holly and some reasoning to get into as to why they had to go their separate ways, but this issue was an excellent beginning for what is to come.

The issue does an excellent job in establishing where Selina came from, what she has been up to and where she is now. There is also a tease as to what is to come, with the appearance of another Bat-related character from the mythos.

The final third of the issue has an excellent action sequence that gives us some fast-paced moments, along with building on what Selina can do and what she has at her disposal.

That leads me to the art in good order. The art and colouring do an excellent job, with different locations to deal with and some very clever panel ideas. Making this a joy to read.

I think this is a good point that newer readers should be able to get on board with while also adding some little points for long-term readers of Absolute Batman.

Aside from the location, this feels like classic Dredd, with the action and the intimidation. I like his memory of the street gang and their response. The lack of real death may make the stakes seem lower here.

I enjoyed this, and it looks like we are going to get some action in the next issue as things seem to get worse. Nevertheless, Bridget was perfectly written, and I enjoyed her responses.

Combining a good finish to this story and a massive revelation for the planet, this had some excellent character moments, and I really am getting into the art of this series.

It seems we are getting close to the end of this series, and there are some excellent double-cross moments going on here. The others' reactions are interesting, and it remains to be seen who gets out of this alive!

This was a fast-paced issue that combined some good action with some amusing points. It leaves our group somewhere unkown, so i will be interesting to see what comes next!

A new story arc that begins with a flashback to give us some history of this gas, and Racer X’s involvement in getting it off the streets.

Regrettably, it appears he wasn’t totally successful in this endeavour, and it has now entered the race circuit. And this is going to cause more problems.

After a race where Speed is exposed to the gas, there is a quick change in Speed’s demeanour, and now he is more reckless and aggressive. This leads to some excellent action sequences involving Speed and his new way of racing. There are some exceptional panels here, and there is some real high-octane moves.

Speed’s reaction to the drug is especially well-told. Driving like he is and also driving those around him away from him as he reacts to the drugged gas. This adds something to the story and Racer X’s involvement book ending the story works to add something extra to the story for us readers.

This looks to be an interesting addition to the story and adding a new type of threat for Speed. This needs to be dealt with in a new way: with the added threat of withdrawal symptoms to the gas being violently aggressive.

This was a packed issue with some fast racing scenes, family aspects and some threat from a new location for the team. It will be intriguing to see where this will go next.

With much having changed since their parents were in the land of the living, the Turtles take them out on the town, but underneath this happy reunion are dark tidings. Though the Turtles' parents have returned from the dead… something has come with them.

This starts off as a soft beginning, but rapidly become deeper as the story progresses. The clan is together and there is a lot of catching up to do with some excellent commentary on the state of the modern world and some catching up to be done.

But an attack on the pier makes things start to look more fascinating - this isn’t just a random attack either and there is something darker to look out for in this story - with Stockman behind it all.
The addition of Stockman was well played and there is an intriguing tease that will lead to something in the future, with some plan bing played out.

Moreover, there is the fact that the dead should stay dead, with a role being undertaken and now there is something darker that may cause some problems. This looks to be resetting the immediate status quo of the series with some threats being revealed. On top of that, there is the Foot Clan looking into what is going on.

This was a packed issue. Acting as a reset, and a nice family affair. I liked the action sequences and how it played out, the lack of weapons for the TMNT added a new dimension too.

The artwork does a perfect job in giving us some packed action, as well as the warmth of the family aspect.

There is a lot to unpick in this and being teased going forward - some storylines that look to be interesting and adding a new dimension to the mythos.

Can Space Ghost save the galaxy with the help of his newfound allies? Or will Tempus the Time-Master’s secrets exact a deeper cost than our heroes can bear? Only one thing’s for certain — not everyone is getting out of this one alive...

The threats towards Space Ghost have been getting larger and larger, and this issue threats time and space as we know it. Tempus the Time-Master is a unique villain as he not only seems very aware of Space Ghost, but moreover, he has some unique powers that make life more difficult.

Tempus also has his own team of minions who act as the muscle, what made this entertaining is that Jan and Jace get their own team from across the multiverse, including a nice nod to the Space Ghost cartoon. This sets us up for an epic battle with a lot at stake.

The battle itself is well played out, with all the characters - both good and bad - getting their time to shine. There is plenty of action here, as the different power sets are used, and some enjoyable banter going on between them all. This all leads up to the big fight between Tempus and Space Ghost.

Things don’t go totally to plan here, and there is a big sacrifice by one of the characters that makes looking forward all the harder, but Space Ghost matches Tempus on his own terms.

It’s at this point we get the origin of the character and his link to the Space Ghost mythos. There is a big decision for Space Ghost to make here, and it is a tough one as he goes through with his plan. Finishing the issue on a less joyful note.

This was an excellent issue, and an excellent arc, building on what we have learned over the previous issue of Space Ghost in this run, full of adventure and action. While also giving us an exceptional family element.

The artwork does an exceptional job, with the expressions of the characters, all the various styles of attack and the different locations. Dealing with flashbacks, time, and space is a tough ask, but it does come across well.

This issue has some ramifications coming out of it, and a tease for next issue. The series continues strong with characters, heart, and action in equal measure.

It’s been a while since I had a thriller like this. Harking back to the classic Cold War style, this initial issue of Redback has some excellent build-up to what looks to be an interesting chase. Combining super soldiers with some old school cloak and dagger and an investigative reporter.

Kicking off with an intriguing tease, there are shades of the Winter Soldier here, but this is something more. The hints at the other subjects are exciting, as our super soldier is the only one to have survived this process—control seems to be a key point here, and it appears to have been successful.

Jumping in time, we meet our plucky reporter who is on the verge of losing her job when something lands on her desk — something dark that she can delve deeper into. That delving leads her towards one of the scientists involved in this project and perhaps the results further down the line. There is a nice touch at the point where you think the timelines don’t match up, but that is well handled.

There is some deep distrust in this story. As a reader, you are suspicious, and it seems that Elsie — our journalist — is also careful about what she knows and what she reveals. The point about her home and phone being wired was well done, especially with the panels interjecting over the narrative.

As a start to this story, there is just enough information to keep us drip-fed and looking to discover more. There are some excellent hints and threats bordering the story, and mysterious figures are only hinted at. This issue builds the world excellently and keeps you hooked, even through some dialogue-heavy pages.

The artwork is splendid, combining flashbacks and even brighter scenes with the shadows and spycraft of a thriller in this style. I love the colouring, and it is dark in all the right places while conveying the scenes’ feelings.

If you are a fan of The Winter Soldier or Velvet, then I recommend this series to you and with catch-up options available on the Kickstarter, this is a good place.

Aliens have invaded Earth and been rebuffed by the Fantastic Four many a time before, and finally, one of them got wise and invaded Earth where the FF couldn’t defend it: They’re attacking our world in the past, in ANCIENT ROME. Johnny and Reed are the only two who make it back in time before all of history is erased, but it’s okay!

As long as they can defend Earth, push the aliens back AND reset history to how it once was, everything should be fine, right? Good thing that, when left alone, Johnny and Reed don’t get into ANY sort of problems on the regular. Plus: Reed stretches in a new way in this one! He does that in a lot of our issues, but this one is particularly fun.

The Fantastic Four has always been on the edge of my reading. I have read some of their issues and followed their participation in big events, but I have never stuck with a series.

So, when there was a new issue #1, I thought this was a good point to jump on and see what I thought. I enjoyed the Invincible Woman arc of the story, and it seemed to hint at the future. This issue, on the other hand, had a slight link to that arc, but it is good for a casual reader to pick up.

The aliens who tried to invade during the previous arc are trying again. This time back in time, when the Romans were the big rulers. Chucking Johnny and Reed into the past with their powers is interesting, and they can’t do the things that the other two can do, so they have to work around it.

There is some good humour here, with the two trying to blend in more, and there is also some commentary on Johnny’s moustache!

The ending links into the real world - and something to look up!

A fun read, and worthy of the Fantastic Four.

ABLAZE will publish the Eisner Award-nominated horror series The Lycan, in print for the first time. The announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that The Lycan has been nominated for the 2026 Eisner Award for “Best Digital Comic.” With The Lycan, the first comic from Thomas Jane’s Production Label Renegade Entertainment, Jane has taken on a new role as creator and editor, assembling a remarkable group of talent to bring his vision to reality. The Lycan is based on a story by Jane and writer/producer David James Kelly (Robin Hood, Straw Man) and features a script by acclaimed writer Mike Carey (The Girl with All the Gifts, Lucifer, The Unwritten), art by talented newcomer Diego Yapur, coloring by D.C. Alonso, lettering by AndWorld Design and covers by renowned artists Tim Bradstreet (Hellblazer) and Liam Sharp (Testament).

The Lycan will be released as a series of 3 double-sized issues, starting with #1 in September 2026, #2 in October 2026, and #3 in November 2026. The series will then be collected and released in a trade paperback edition with bonus material in February 2027. The series was first released digitally from Comixology Originals.

“The Lycan is a passion project of mine that had a heartbreaking false start over a decade ago and I put it away in a drawer — if it wasn’t for my partner Courtney Penn at Renegade, that’s where it would remain today,” says Thomas Jane. “We are so proud to see The Lycan nominated for an Eisner and for it to come out in print in the same year. It is a tribute to the brilliant writers and artists we are fortunate enough to work with, and the gracious support of Comixology.”

Mike Carey shared “The Lycan was more than a decade in the making, but some things just get better as they mature. It’s been a privilege and an adventure to be a part of this project, this team. And to see the series finally out in the world as a physical book, to see it get an Eisner nomination... I have no words. Ironically.”

Taking place in 1777, the story follows a hardened band of International big game hunters as they set sail to return home after a bountiful expedition in Africa. Things take an unexpected turn, however, when they’re shipwrecked near a small, British island.

Under the advice of Absalom Coffin, the men make a deal with Lord Ludgate, ruler of the island. In exchange for fresh supplies and the repair of their ship, The Calydonian, the men are assigned a task they are particularly well suited for: find the Berserking Beasts that have been eating his subjects, including a group of young Benedictine Nuns, and destroy them. But the men encounter more sinister and dangerous beasts than anyone expected.

“Comixology Originals continues to put out excellent stories and The Lycan is no exception,” says Rich Young, Publisher of ABLAZE. “It is a haunting gothic horror story with werewolves by an outstanding creative team, and we’re thrilled to bring the series to print and expand their readership in comic shops and bookstores.”

Shaquille O'Neal is setting sail into the comic book world! The basketball Hall of Famer and business mogul has partnered with Archie Comics to develop VENGEANCE UNCHAINED: THE LEGEND OF BLACK CAESAR, a new original comic book series coming this fall centered on the rise of one of history’s most mythological pirates, by Eisner-nominated writer Stephanie Williams with artwork by Ray-Anthony Height and Studio Sky-Tiger. Colin Smeeton, Mike Parris, and Matthew Gross from O’Neal’s Jersey Legends Productions/Authentic Studios are overseeing the project for the studio.

The project is positioned as a sprawling, franchise-ready narrative, combining the political complexity of Black Sails, the sweeping scope of Vikings, and the character-driven storytelling of Shōgun. Insiders say the tone leans “Gladiator on the high seas,” with a focus on power, survival, and vengeance.

For Archie Comics, the collaboration marks another step in expanding beyond its traditional teen-focused roots into more mature, cinematic storytelling under CEO Jon Goldwater. One of the most influential and longest-running brands in comics, the publisher has sold more than three billion books worldwide and built a globally recognized roster of characters including Archie, Betty and Veronica, Jughead, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Josie and the Pussycats, while expanding into darker fare through its Archie Horror imprint and the Dark Circle line. Its characters have also fueled a steady pipeline of screen adaptations, including RIVERDALE, CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA, THE ARCHIES (a Hindi-language feature film for Netflix), and an upcoming Archie feature in development at Universal Pictures from producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

Applications for SBCF 2027 are now open!

For fans of independent comics, the Shortbox Comics Fair is a great place to pick up some special ones. And now applications for creators are open.

All participating exhibitors are required to ‘table’ with one new, debuting comic. Details as follows:

◆Comics must be a completely new work, not published or exhibited elsewhere previously, whether digitally or in print

◆Comics must be a minimum of 16 pages (comic pages, i.e. not including covers, etc) in length. All rights to the comic are fully owned by the creator

◆Comics must be created by a single author: no writer/artist teams

◆No AI comics, covers, or anything AI at all

◆There are NO upfront/exhibiting fees. Instead, the fair takes 9% of final sales: we get paid if you get paid. Each artist receives a breakdown of sales and fees along with payment at the end of the fair

◆Once the fair is over, artists are completely free to do whatever they wish with their comic; for the duration of the fair, the comic should be available via the fair only

Bringing this mini-series to a close, The Exorcism at Buckingham Palace #3 does an excellent job of tying together the threads from the previous Exorcism storyline while also laying foundations for where the franchise could go next. Rather than simply focusing on delivering a climactic confrontation, the issue takes the time to explore the wider implications of what has been happening, making the finale feel both satisfying and significant within the larger universe being built.

This is a surprisingly dense read in places, packed with political intrigue, religious themes and deeper exploration of the demonic forces at work. The possession itself becomes much more than a simple battle between good and evil, as the story digs into the motivations behind the demonic plan and what the corruption of such an important institution could mean. The royal setting continues to give the series its own identity, allowing the writers to play with ideas and scenarios that would not work nearly as well anywhere else.

The exorcism sequence is undoubtedly the centrepiece of the issue and is handled extremely well. There are plenty of moments that will resonate with UK readers, particularly the use of recognisable political and cultural elements, but none of it feels exclusionary to readers from elsewhere. The Prime Minister’s involvement, especially the memorable chanting sequence, adds an unusual but entertaining flavour to proceedings. I also appreciated that the story acknowledged Rome's intervention and addressed the historical relationship between the British monarchy and the Catholic Church. Given the King’s role as Supreme Governor of the Church of England and the centuries-old split from Rome, it would have felt strange not to mention it, and the comic uses that history to lend extra weight to the unfolding events.

What I enjoyed most was how effectively the issue maintains tension. Just when it seems the characters have gained the upper hand, the story throws another obstacle in their path. There are several well-executed bait-and-switch moments that convince you the resolution is within reach before pulling the rug out from under both the characters and the reader. These twists never feel cheap, however, because they emerge naturally from the rules and mythology the series has established. By the time the final explanations are revealed, they fit surprisingly well within the context of both the royal institution and the supernatural threat at the heart of the story.

The character work also benefits from these shifting fortunes. The highs and lows experienced throughout the exorcism create genuine uncertainty about how events will unfold, and the emotional stakes remain high. Everyone involved is pushed to their limits, which helps make the climax feel earned rather than inevitable.

Visually, the book remains consistently strong. The artwork captures both the grandeur of Buckingham Palace and the increasingly oppressive atmosphere created by the demonic presence. As corruption spreads through the palace, a real sense of darkness creeps into every corner, and the artists do an excellent job of making the familiar setting feel unsettling and dangerous. The colouring deserves particular praise, using shadows and darker tones to emphasise the horror elements before punctuating key moments with vivid bursts of colour. Those brighter shades become especially effective during the closing pages, where they provide a striking contrast to everything that has come before and help the finale leave a lasting impression.

Overall, this is a strong conclusion that delivers on the promises made throughout the mini-series while opening the door to something much bigger. It successfully combines horror, religion, politics and British history into a unique supernatural thriller that stands apart from many other exorcism stories. With hints that the franchise may expand beyond the United Kingdom and explore further possessions and exorcisms around the world, there is plenty of potential for what comes next. Given the quality of this series, I’m certainly interested to see where the creative team takes the concept in future instalments.

Well... that was certainly something. To be fair, I knew exactly what sort of comic I was getting myself into. A book called Junk Punch doesn’t exactly suggest a thoughtful meditation on the human condition or a deep exploration of society’s greatest challenges. You pick up a title like this expecting chaos, absurdity, and a healthy dose of nonsense.

What I wasn’t expecting was to finish the issue and immediately find myself wondering, “What on earth did I just read?” Not because it was confusing or poorly put together, but because it embraces its bizarre premise so completely that you’re left trying to process the sheer madness of it all.

Despite that, or perhaps because of it, I had a great time reading this first issue. It throws readers headfirst into a wonderfully ridiculous world filled with strange characters, bizarre situations, and a constant stream of unexpected developments. The comic has real energy, never slowing down for long before introducing another oddball concept or visual gag. It feels completely comfortable being weird, and that confidence makes the humour land all the more effectively.

At the centre of the story is Clara, who suffers from the overwhelming urge to Junk Punch. It’s such a ridiculous concept on paper, yet the book commits to it wholeheartedly. Sometimes her compulsion appears at the worst possible moment, while at other times it turns out to be surprisingly useful. Some of the funniest moments come from seeing how this strange ability intersects with everyday situations, especially when it involves uncovering threats or dealing with individuals who are far more dangerous than they initially appear. The assassin sequence was a particular highlight, perfectly capturing the comic’s unpredictable sense of humour.

What impressed me most was that beneath all the absurdity, there is actually a story being told. The narrative may be just as strange as everything else happening on the page, but there is a clear thread running through the madness. As Clara moves through this chemically altered city, readers are given a guided tour of a setting that feels alive with strange ideas and visual jokes. Every page is packed with details, from background signs to random citizens going about their bizarre lives. It often feels like a modern-day Mad Magazine filtered through a colourful science-fiction fever dream.

Because of that, this is definitely a comic that rewards a second look. It’s easy to focus on the main action and dialogue during a first read-through, but there is so much additional humour tucked away in the background that you’re almost guaranteed to miss some of it initially. The creative team has clearly put a huge amount of effort into making every corner of the world feel unique and entertaining.

The artwork is a perfect match for the tone of the story. The bright colours leap off the page and help create a world that feels vibrant, chaotic, and constantly on the verge of spiralling out of control. Character designs are wonderfully exaggerated, while the backgrounds are filled with amusing little details that often go completely unmentioned by the characters themselves. These visual side jokes add an extra layer of entertainment and help make the city feel like a character in its own right.

Overall, this was a wonderfully strange, wildly entertaining first issue that fully embraces its own insanity. It isn’t trying to be subtle, serious, or realistic, and it’s all the better for it. Between the outrageous premise, the energetic storytelling, and the eye-catching artwork, Junk Punch delivers a reading experience unlike almost anything else on shelves right now. It is chaotic, ridiculous, and endlessly fun, leaving me eager to see just how much stranger things can get in future issues.

This is a packed and highly effective introduction to a brutal post-apocalyptic world, balancing world-building, character development, and escalating threats without ever feeling overwhelming. Right from the opening pages, the creative team establishes the dangers facing humanity while also giving readers a strong sense of the people trying to survive within it.

What stood out most to me was how the story explores both the best and worst aspects of human nature. Faced with an infection that appears to alter not only a person’s physical form but also their personality and behaviour, society begins to fracture in fascinating and often disturbing ways. The series immediately raises difficult questions about survival, morality, and what people are willing to sacrifice when fear begins to take hold. It creates a constant sense of uncertainty, where nobody seems entirely safe, and trust becomes increasingly difficult to place.

The structure of the issue works particularly well, using several time jumps to show the progression of the outbreak and its impact on the world. Rather than spending the entire issue focused on the initial collapse, we are shown snapshots of how society adapts, evolves, and sometimes deteriorates over time. Rumours of cures, misinformation, and the public’s reaction to the crisis all feel very familiar and add an extra layer of realism to the story. There are definitely elements that feel inspired by recent real-world events, which makes the narrative all the more relatable and unsettling.

Alongside the larger world-building, the book does an excellent job of establishing tension between the various factions that have emerged in the aftermath of the outbreak. The threat posed by the infected and mutated humans is ever-present, but the human conflicts are equally compelling. The relationships between the main characters provide an emotional anchor amidst the chaos, and their personal struggles help ground the larger story. Their interactions feel natural, and by the end of the issue, I already found myself invested in their futures. The supporting cast is introduced effectively as well, with enough personality and intrigue to make them feel important rather than simply background characters.

The artwork plays a huge role in bringing this world to life. The devastated cityscapes, overgrown wilderness, and isolated settlements all help create a believable setting that feels both dangerous and lived-in. The infected designs are particularly impressive, showcasing varying stages of mutation, from subtle physical changes to horrifying transformations. Every environment feels distinct, and the visual storytelling does an excellent job of reinforcing the bleak atmosphere while still leaving room for moments of hope.

Overall, this is an excellent start to the mini-series. It delivers a compelling premise, strong character work, and plenty of intriguing mysteries while laying the groundwork for what looks to be a much larger and more dangerous story. The first issue hits all the right notes, providing enough answers to hook readers while leaving plenty of questions that will keep them coming back for the next chapter. If the creative team can maintain this level of quality, Only The Savage Are Left has the potential to be one of the year's more memorable post-apocalyptic stories.

It’s tough to say any more about this issue on top of my review (below), but what I will say is a strong series. So, for this last issue of the arc, we get some closure with regards to the storyline of the arc, an ample tease as to what to pick up next and some brilliant action.

The writing is excellent, giving us a real family affair along with the other members of the immortals who live around us, but are unknown. There is some brilliant work with the flashback, which leads directly into the ending.

As far as the art is concerned, it creates an action-movie-style, kinetic energy that makes it worth a re-read. The colouring and lettering complement the story being told and enhance the overall feel of the issue.

Each arc gets stronger and stronger, and Kill All Immortals III can’t come soon enough!

Weird Brain Entertainment’s Anti-Christine and the Four Unicorns of the Apocalypse #2 starts in a surprisingly restrained way before rapidly shifting gears into a chaotic, fast-paced issue packed with action, revelations, and hints about both the future and the hidden past surrounding its characters. The pacing is handled extremely well, gradually pulling the reader in before unleashing a story that feels increasingly unpredictable and wonderfully strange in the best possible way.

Anti-Christine remains a fascinating central character, especially as it becomes clear just how much pressure and danger she faces. Even with a reluctant companion and one of the apocalyptic unicorns alongside her, there are still overwhelming forces working against her from multiple directions. The series does a great job of making it feel as though the odds are constantly stacked against the group, which keeps the tension high throughout the issue.

The priest's introduction is one of the standout elements here. There is an immediate sense that he has deeper ties to Anti-Christine’s past than he initially lets on, and the story cleverly drip-feeds information without giving away too much too quickly. What makes his arrival especially memorable is the way the issue plays with reader expectations. The setup encourages you to think one thing is happening, only for the reveal to shift your understanding entirely. I do not want to spoil the moment because it is one of the most enjoyable surprises in the issue, but it is genuinely creative, darkly funny, and handled with a really clever payoff that the story continues to reference afterwards.

Another strength of the issue is how effectively it expands the world and casts without feeling overloaded. New characters are introduced naturally, and the comic wastes no time in demonstrating their personalities, abilities, and importance to the larger conflict. Rather than simply throwing names and faces at the reader, the issue actively shows what these characters can contribute and why they matter. It makes the world feel bigger and more dangerous while also increasing the sense that this strange campaign is only beginning to reveal its true scale.

By the time the action settles — at least temporarily — the surviving group ends up in a location that feels both unfamiliar and oddly recognisable, adding another intriguing layer of mystery to the story. There is a strong sense that the mythology behind the series is expanding rapidly, and the growing cast hints at even more chaos, revelations, and bizarre encounters still to come.

The artwork deserves a huge amount of praise as well. The visual style brilliantly balances the ordinary with the supernatural, blending demonic imagery, hellish horror, and grounded human reactions into a cohesive, energetic package. The designs are memorable, the action scenes are full of movement, and the darker elements never overshadow the humour and personality running through the story. Altogether, it creates a comic that feels visually distinctive and incredibly entertaining from start to finish.

Overall, this issue builds on the promise of the debut extremely well, delivering action, mystery, humour, and expanding mythology in equal measure. It leaves plenty of unanswered questions while giving readers enough excitement and character development to ensure anticipation of the next instalment is even higher.
