Papercutz, the kids' imprint of Mad Cave Studios, announces UNDERCOVER MONSTER, a new middle-grade graphic novel from Hellicious writers A.C. Medina and Mina Elwell, illustrated by Kit Wallis (Monster Club), with lettering by Dave Lentz. Blending mystery, humor, and a monster-sized identity crisis, this 176-page story unfolds in a school where nothing—and no one—can be trusted.

Mia has been kicked out of monster schools at every level, from Madame Cryptorius’s School for the Brilliant and Bewitched to Bugwump Swamp Middle, and now she’s about to face her toughest challenge yet: Human school. Her goal: Find the monster who has infiltrated this school and started picking the human kids off as prey, and she might just get let back into a monster school. “Working on Undercover Monster was as much a discovery and mystery to me as our characters,” said A.C. Angel Series by Kelly Thompson Joins the Buffyverse

Following Buffy #1 from Dynamite Comics, there is news on the upcoming Angel series.

Following the epic announcement of the return of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics with Kelly Thompson at the helm, Dynamite is excited to announce the companion series that fans have been waiting for, as Angel kicks off this August by Thompson and artist Giulia Giacomino.

Once the terrifying vampire known as Angelus, the man fans now know as Angel was cursed for his crimes with the return of his soul. His newfound humanity led him to the seemingly idyllic small town of Sunnydale, and a star-crossed love affair with the Slayer — Buffy Summers. Once the tragedy had run its course, Angel set off for new adventures (and his own show) in Los Angeles as a detective specializing in supernatural cases and helping the helpless.

Things don’t always go according to plan however and sometimes you do have to go home again. But what if in trying to set something right, chaos follows? This is that story.

Best-selling and Eisner Award-winning writer Kelly Thompson (Absolute Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Captain Marvel, Black Widow) helms both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel titles — structured as a seamless event story that will redefine the Buffyverse.

Complementing the all-star cast of artists assembled for Buffy covers, her bad boy fallen Angel beau isn’t lacking in that department either. Superstar David Nakayama contributes the lead cover, matching up with his Buffy piece. He’s joined by Clayton Crain, Meredith McClaren, and Meghan Hetrick who all fit the distinct tone of the series. A series of Icon covers starts with remastering gorgeous works by Jenny Frison.

Avid Angel collectors can also consider the mystery blind bag, featuring three premium variant covers for the book selected randomly from a range of logo-less editions, line art presentations of art, and wholly original artwork exclusive to this offering.

A new series from the Dynamite and Disney teams with the classic Talespin series is now coming to comics!

It’s great to see classic characters come around again for a new audience. I’m sure most people have heard of Zorro, and this new miniseries seems to really showcase the character.

It’s packed full of action with plenty of swashbuckling and a lot to take in. There are battles, sword fights, horses, betrayals and sinister monks! Yes, it was all in this one initial issue.

The artwork is fantastic and gives a classic feel in a more modern era - Zorro is made for this sort of art and colouring.

The story itself is well-crafted, and the reliance on actual events adds something extra.

I’m glad I caught this new one!

I liked the art style - very fitting for the story.

This was tense throughout! With the team being hunted and so unaware of it, it made the tension all the more intense until the end. Very cleverly written, and the art with the two different groups was very well done.

SILVER // MALIGNANT by Mike Carroll (w) Joe Currie (c) Simon Bowland (l)

The relationship between Silver and her brother looks to be getting ready to crack with some opposing comments on the state of the planet and those who are in charge. Combining this chat with the resistance and the collaborators makes this a gripping read.

HELIUM // RED OCTOBER by Ian Edginton (w) D’Israeli (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)

A look into the depravity of this new land and its people. This was a great issue with some fantastic art and colours. I like how it was set up, and it appears that we are on the way to a fight back.

IDW Publishing continues to deliver an intense and surprisingly layered sci-fi action story with Shredder #8, and at this point, I find myself fully invested in where the series is heading. What initially seemed like a straightforward action-driven expansion of the character has steadily evolved into something with much more depth, intrigue, and tension, and this latest issue keeps that momentum going extremely well.

The central conflict involving the Dog Star Clan continues to develop in interesting ways. What makes the story compelling is that the Clan itself is not simply presented as a faceless enemy force. There are clearly internal problems, manipulation, and deeper complications surrounding the augmentations controlling many of its members, and Shredder is beginning to uncover the truth behind what is really happening. Throughout the issue, there is a growing sense that he is finally fighting back effectively rather than simply reacting to events around him. Even so, the story never makes things feel easy or straightforward for him, and there is always the lingering question of whether he truly understands the scale of the threat he is facing.

At the same time, the comic cleverly broadens the danger by introducing pressure from another direction. While Shredder is occupied dealing with the Dog Star Clan and the increasingly dangerous augmented warriors, the EDF has also begun taking notice of him and is quietly preparing to eliminate him as a potential threat. I liked how this subplot develops more gradually in the background, creating a sense of impending danger without immediately overtaking the main narrative. It feels like a collision course waiting to happen, and the possibility that both threats could converge at exactly the wrong moment adds significant tension to the issue.

The action sequences are one of the standout elements here. There is an extended confrontation between Shredder and members of the Dog Star Clan that is handled exceptionally well, combining brutal combat with fast-paced storytelling and some genuinely striking visual moments. The comic captures Shredder’s skill and ferocity brilliantly, and several panels really emphasise how dangerous and relentless he can be when fully unleashed. The choreography of the fight scenes feels fluid and dynamic, with a strong sense of movement that keeps the action exciting from beginning to end.

What gives the issue additional emotional weight, however, is the introduction of an unexpected ally. Her involvement adds another layer to the story, particularly because of the sacrifices she is willing to make in order to help Shredder uncover the truth. Those moments help prevent the comic from becoming purely action-focused and instead give the narrative a stronger emotional core. The sacrifice itself is meaningful because it directly contributes to Shredder learning more about the augmentations and their horrifying implications.

That revelation becomes even more important as the issue progresses. The comic gradually expands upon the nature of the augmentations and the threat they pose, both physically and psychologically. By the final pages, readers are given even more information that deepens the mystery and raises the stakes considerably. The ending does a strong job of suggesting that the situation may be far worse than anyone initially believed, leaving the story on an intriguing and ominous note heading into the next chapter.

Visually, this issue is excellent throughout. The artwork handles both quieter story moments and explosive action scenes equally well, but it truly shines during the combat sequences. The sense of speed, motion, and impact is fantastic, making every strike and movement feel powerful and immediate. Some of the panel layouts are particularly effective in conveying momentum, helping the fights feel kinetic and cinematic rather than static. Combined with strong character expressions and detailed environments, the visuals consistently heighten the story's intensity.

Overall, this is another very strong instalment in a series that continues to build momentum with each issue. The combination of action, sci-fi mystery, political tension, and character development makes the story increasingly engaging, while the artwork delivers some genuinely memorable sequences. With Shredder uncovering more of the truth while new threats close in around him, the series feels as though it is building towards something much larger, and I am very eager to see what happens next.

Dynamite has announced collected editions of Nightmare Before Christmas: Shiver of Christmas Town.

This summer, as the Halloween season approaches, Dynamite Entertainment announces the forthcoming collected editions of the latest comic book series inspired by Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas.

All four issues of The Shiver of Christmas Town by writer Torunn Grønbekk (Red Sonja, Thor) and artist Edu Menna (Army of Darkness), are collected for readers in paperback and hardcover formats. Both editions feature beautiful, haunting covers by superstar Jae Lee, with Jack featured on the paperback and Sally on the hardcover.

Vampirella Shines in Seventh Paperback Archive!

It’s the Vampirella Archive paperback volume seven from Dynamite Comics, which reprints Vampirella Magazine issues #43-49 (1975-1976).

Dynamite Entertainment announces another anticipated volume in the ongoing paperback editions of the complete Vampirella Archives compiling the character's original era, as well as countless classic anthology tales.


This shining seventh volume reprints issues #43-49 of the Vampirella magazine originally released by Warren Publishing. These stories were originally released from summer 1975 through spring 1976.

These seven books can be picked up and enjoyed in any order by readers, all offering a batch of exciting stories featuring horror, science fiction, fantasy, and more, as well as the ongoing epics of the Daughter of Drakulon. The preceding sixth entry included different visions of Vampi by artists Leopold Sanchez, Jose Ortiz, and the ending of writer Flaxman Lowe's run.

For this volume deep into the series, writer Bill DuBay takes over as the primary architect of Vampirella's tales. Fans get another nice mix on the art side, with not only definitive illustrator of the era Jose Gonzalez, but also Gonzalo Mayo, Zesar Lopez, and a massive key issue with #49 featuring the first appearance of the Blood Red Queen of Hearts drawn by Esteban Maroto. The all-Vampi issue of #46 includes a retold origin.

Other creators in these issues include Len Wein, Luis Garcia, Ramon Torrents, Fernando Fernandez, Gerry Boudreau, Rafael Auraleon, Jose Ortiz, Isidro Mones, and more.

The highlight of the epic eighth book following this one will be the crossover epic in issue #50 featuring Vampirella, Pantha, Fleur, and even a special cameo by The Spirit. While issue #54 features an epic 42-page Vampirella tale, one of the largest from the Warren era.

IDW Publishing continues to push the unsettling atmosphere of Smile: For the Camera #3 even further, delivering an issue that is as psychologically disturbing as it is outright horrifying. What makes this series particularly effective is that the horror does not come solely from the terrifying smile entity itself, but also from the toxic and exploitative environment surrounding the fashion industry. The comic constantly blurs the line between supernatural terror and the very real emotional damage caused by the people within that world.

This issue balances those two aspects extremely well. On the one hand, there is the creeping horror tied to the smile curse, which continues to infect the characters, both mentally and physically. On the other hand, there is the relentless pressure of the modelling industry — the manipulation, exploitation, and emotional exhaustion that wears people down long before the horror truly takes hold. The story makes it increasingly difficult to separate what is supernatural from what is simply the result of an industry built on stress, insecurity, and control, and that ambiguity makes everything even more unsettling.

There is a lot happening throughout the issue, with multiple story threads developing at once, but the comic handles it surprisingly smoothly. The fallout from the previous issue’s shocking death ripples through every scene here, influencing the characters’ actions and emotional states in believable ways. At the same time, the narrative hints that something much deeper and more sinister may be lurking beneath the surface than anyone initially realised. Rather than feeling overcrowded, the various subplots help build the tension and paranoia surrounding the story as a whole.

One of the most interesting additions in this issue is the increased involvement of journalists in uncovering the truth behind the strange events and gruesome deaths. Their investigation adds another layer of pressure to the already fragile situation, particularly for Ivy, who increasingly feels trapped in circumstances she desperately wants to escape from. Instead of finding support, she becomes the centre of suspicion and attention, which only intensifies the emotional strain she is already under. This element works well because it raises the stakes not only for Ivy but also for the remaining models still caught in this nightmare.

The comic also does an excellent job of portraying the uglier side of the fashion world. Agents, photographers, managers, and industry insiders are shown in ways that feel deeply uncomfortable but believable. There is a constant sense of exploitation and emotional manipulation running throughout the issue, and the story highlights how easily vulnerable people can be chewed up and discarded within that environment. What works particularly well is how outsiders within the story begin to assume that the mounting deaths and breakdowns are simply the result of industry pressure and abuse, rather than anything supernatural. That misdirection adds another layer of tension because readers know there is something far worse involved.

The major death scene in this issue is especially effective. It is staged with some genuinely clever visual framing that makes the sequence far more disturbing than simple gore alone would achieve. The pacing, panel composition, and perspective choices all work together to create a moment that feels deeply unnerving and difficult to look away from. Rather than relying purely on shock value, the scene builds dread gradually, which makes its eventual payoff far more impactful.

Visually, the comic continues to excel. The artwork captures the surreal horror of the smile entity alongside the glamorous yet suffocating world of fashion in a way that feels constantly disorienting. Several panels are deliberately uncomfortable to look at, lingering on expressions, shadows, or distorted smiles just long enough to leave an impression. There is a lingering unease throughout the entire issue, and many of the images are the kind that stay in your mind long after finishing the comic.

Overall, this is another very strong instalment in a series that continues to blend body horror, psychological tension, and social commentary remarkably well. The comic is not only frightening because of its supernatural elements, but because it reflects the very real emotional damage caused by toxic environments and exploitation. With the tension escalating and the mystery deepening further, the story continues to pull readers in while leaving them increasingly uneasy about what may happen next.

Nectar #3 is an incredibly intense and unsettling instalment that continues to build the growing sense of dread surrounding the outbreak on the island. The story leans heavily into themes of hysteria, fear, and blind devotion, creating an atmosphere that feels increasingly dangerous with every page. Between the terrifying dancing plague and the almost unnoticed spread of the butterfly infection, the issue does an excellent job of making the island feel completely trapped in chaos.

One of the most disturbing elements of the issue is the horrifying effect the infection is having on people. The dancing plague itself becomes more gruesome here, with victims literally dancing themselves to death in horrific fashion. The scenes of exhausted, broken bodies collapsing after being pushed beyond human limits are genuinely unsettling, and they add a layer of body horror that makes the infection feel even more terrifying. The butterflies drifting through the island, almost silent, only make things creepier, arriving without warning like deadly omens, spreading destruction while appearing strangely beautiful at the same time.

The ongoing conflict between science and religion remains at the centre of the story, and this issue really highlights how dangerous that divide has become. Pastor Grant continues to emerge as one of the most frustrating and compelling figures in the series. His fanaticism and increasingly unstable behaviour allow him to manipulate the frightened villagers, whipping them into a frenzy and steering them further away from reason. He thrives on fear and chaos, using religion to justify the escalating madness around him, even while he seems to be losing control himself. Watching the panic spread through the villages because of his influence is both fascinating and infuriating, and it makes me look forward even more to the moment when he is finally forced to face the consequences of his actions.

On the scientific side of the story, there are still many unanswered questions surrounding the infection and the butterflies, but the attempts to contain the outbreak at least feel grounded and believable. The decision to quarantine the island makes complete sense from a practical standpoint, even if it creates even more suffering for the people trapped there. That isolation adds another layer of hopelessness to the story because it becomes clear that those left behind are effectively on their own. The quarantine not only increases fear and desperation but also creates further violence, death, and instability as resources, trust, and order continue to break down.

What makes the issue work so well is how tightly paced and frantic everything feels. The story never really slows down, constantly moving between outbreaks of violence, religious hysteria, scientific investigation, and the eerie presence of the butterflies themselves. There is a constant feeling that things are spiralling further out of control, and the tension continues to build with every chapter. The butterflies in particular are used brilliantly throughout the issue, hovering in the background like silent assassins whose presence alone signals that something terrible is about to happen.

The artwork and colouring remain a major strength of the series as well. The visuals perfectly capture both the horror and chaos unfolding across the island, with several panels standing out for their disturbing imagery and emotional intensity. The contrast between the beauty of the butterflies and the gruesome deaths they leave behind is especially effective visually. The colouring adds so much atmosphere to the story, helping to create a bleak, oppressive tone that suits the material perfectly. Combined with the frantic pacing and unsettling subject matter, the art helps make this one of the strongest and most memorable issues of the series so far.

I had heard a huge amount of praise surrounding Volume 1 of Dungeon Crawler Carl Vol. 1 and it sounded exactly like the sort of thing I would enjoy. I had actually already begun reading the prose version beforehand, so I went into this graphic adaptation with some familiarity of the world and characters. Thankfully, reading this first volume didn’t spoil anything major for me, which made the experience even more enjoyable because I could simply settle into the story and appreciate how it had been adapted into comic form.

Right from the start, this is an incredibly entertaining read. The volume does an excellent job of setting up the bizarre and dangerous world Carl suddenly finds himself trapped in, while also giving us a strong understanding of who he is as a character and what motivates him to keep pushing forward. There’s a real sense of momentum throughout the story, and even though this is only the opening part of a much larger adventure, it never feels slow or overloaded with exposition.

Alongside Carl, we are introduced to the wonderfully memorable Princess Donut, who immediately steals scenes whenever she appears. The comic also plants the seeds for a number of other characters and encounters that clearly feel important moving forward, giving the impression that this world is much bigger than what we have seen so far. It does a great job of teasing future relationships, rivalries and surprises without overwhelming the reader.

What impressed me most was how cleverly the comic handles the dungeon-crawling mechanics. It works both as a guide for the reader and for Carl himself as he learns how the system operates. Watching him gain experience points, pick up loot and stumble through increasingly messy and chaotic situations makes the whole thing feel fun and unpredictable. The humour lands particularly well because the comic fully embraces the absurdity of the concept without ever undermining the stakes.

The relationship between Carl and Princess Donut is easily one of the highlights. Princess Donut genuinely behaves like a cat at times, with all the arrogance, stubbornness and dramatic reactions you would expect, but there are also quieter moments where a softer and more emotional side comes through. Their back-and-forth creates a lot of the charm of the book and gives the story a surprisingly warm heart beneath all the violence and chaos.

The artwork throughout the volume is excellent and perfectly suited to the tone of the story. The action scenes against goblins and other threats are energetic and easy to follow, while the visual presentation of loot boxes, stats and RPG-style mechanics adds another layer of enjoyment. These little details really help immerse you in the game-like world and make the comic feel distinct from a more traditional fantasy adventure.

Overall, this feels like a fantastic concept for a comic adaptation. It captures the humour, action and weirdness of the story while making full use of the visual format. Volume 1 does exactly what you want an opening volume to do — it hooks you immediately, introduces memorable characters and leaves you wanting more. I’m already looking forward to continuing the series and seeing where Carl and Princess Donut’s journey goes next.

Forty-nine witnesses, seven wives, one dead husband.

On Monday, April 17, at 9:04 a.m., two police detectives are dispatched to investigate a death on a Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints compound in remote Arizona. Matthew Dunn, the patriarch of the Dunn family, has been found stabbed on the pulpit of his temple, basking in the blood-soaked gaze of his savior.

Detectives Aguilar and Halwell begin the arduous task of questioning each of Matthew’s seven wives and quickly encounter a brick wall of memorized Scripture, canned platitudes, and locked lips. It becomes clear that the women’s intricately braided hair, voices with sweet affectations, and modest clothing aren’t just signs of Matthew’s brainwashing but armor they use to protect their family. But with each interrogation, the cracks begin to show — the abuse, the truth of living and surviving in this cult — and the detectives uncover the unholy gospel of Matthew Dunn.

IDW Publishing continues to build an impressive catalogue with its crime-focused imprint, and Seven Wives #1 is a murder mystery that immediately pulled me in and kept me guessing throughout. Having recently found myself on a bit of a detective-and-mystery binge — from revisiting classic episodes of Murder, She Wrote to working through the Knives Out films — this comic felt like a perfect fit for that same layered whodunnit storytelling.

The central mystery is instantly compelling. A murder has taken place in circumstances where, realistically, somebody should have witnessed something, yet every person involved insists they saw nothing at all. That alone creates a fascinating setup, immediately establishing suspicion and distrust amongst the characters. The issue does an excellent job of introducing a wide range of suspects without making any of them feel interchangeable. Each character has their own personality, motivations, and secrets, which makes trying to piece together the truth genuinely engaging.

What strengthens the story even further is the inclusion of the cult-like religious organisation at the heart of the mystery. The victim’s position within this church adds an extra layer of tension and unease to the investigation. There is a constant feeling that the detectives are not simply dealing with an ordinary murder case, but with something tied to manipulation, loyalty, and hidden agendas. That atmosphere gives the comic a darker edge and makes the investigation feel far more dangerous than it first appears.

The concept of the “seven wives” itself is handled very cleverly. The writing constantly shifts suspicion from one person to another, and by the time the issue reaches its later stages, it becomes clear that the pool of suspects may extend far beyond the seven women named in the title. The script keeps introducing new doubts, hidden relationships, and conflicting accounts, ensuring the mystery never feels straightforward. I particularly enjoyed how naturally the story drip-feeds information rather than overwhelming readers with exposition.

The detectives investigating the case are also a major highlight. Too often in crime stories, the investigators can feel secondary to the mystery itself, but here they are given strong personalities and distinct dynamics from the beginning. Their interactions help ground the story, and their differing approaches to the case make the investigation more interesting to follow. You get the sense that there are stories behind them, too, which should make future issues even more engaging.

By the end of the issue, the revelations are handled extremely well. Rather than offering simple answers, the comic deepens the mystery and raises even more questions. Every new piece of information seems to uncover another hidden layer, keeping the tension high and leaving the reader eager to continue. The final moments in particular do a strong job of ending the issue on a note that keeps you hooked for what comes next.

Visually, the comic is equally impressive. The artwork captures both the grounded crime elements and the story's more unsettling undertones perfectly. The use of colour and shading is especially effective during the flashback sequences, helping to distinguish past events while also adding to the uneasy atmosphere. Some panels carry a real sense of paranoia, which fits the tone of the story incredibly well.

Overall, this is a very strong opening issue that successfully blends classic murder mystery storytelling with cult intrigue and psychological tension. It introduces an intriguing cast of characters, establishes a compelling central mystery, and leaves readers with plenty of unanswered questions to think about. There is clearly much more still waiting to be uncovered, and I am very interested to see how the story develops from here.

Mad Cave Studios’s Babylon Cove #1 delivers a strong and intriguing opening chapter that feels very much like the calm before the storm. From the outset, the issue carefully lays the groundwork for what promises to become something much darker and more unsettling as the story progresses.

A large part of this first instalment focuses on introducing the cast and establishing the atmosphere of the town itself. We meet a mixture of characters still living in the small coastal community, alongside those who have moved away to pursue bigger lives elsewhere. At first glance, the setup carries all the familiar elements of the classic “returning home” story, with a young woman coming back from the city and reconnecting with old friends, former relationships, and family members she left behind. That sense of nostalgia runs throughout the issue, giving the book an immediately recognisable emotional core.

What makes the comic stand out, however, is the growing feeling that something is deeply wrong beneath the surface. Even before the true horror elements begin to emerge, there is an underlying tension hanging over nearly every scene. The story hints early on that a demonic force may be at work, and as unexplained deaths begin to occur, the atmosphere becomes increasingly unsettling. The creative team does a good job of feeding readers just enough information to keep them curious without revealing too much too soon.

I particularly enjoyed how naturally the issue handles its character relationships and backstory. The flashbacks are used effectively to show us fragments of the past and help explain the complicated history between the various characters. Old friendships, lingering resentments, romantic history, and family tensions all add depth to the narrative, making the town feel lived-in rather than simply functioning as a backdrop for horror. Those quieter moments help balance the more sinister developments later in the issue.

The opening prologue is especially effective in setting the tone. It offers disturbing glimpses of violence and bloodshed without fully explaining what is happening, immediately creating intrigue. As the story unfolds, the sense of dread slowly builds in the background until the comic finally leans into its horror elements, culminating in some genuinely gruesome moments. By the closing pages, the mystery surrounding the evil presence becomes much more apparent, leaving plenty of questions for the next issue to explore.

The artwork deserves a lot of praise as well. The visual style captures both the warmth of the small-town setting and the darker supernatural elements extremely well. Some of the colour choices are particularly striking, especially during the more intense scenes, where the contrast between light and shadow heightens the tension. I also liked the panel layouts and the occasional high-angle perspectives, which help make certain moments feel more dramatic and cinematic. Character expressions are another highlight, with reactions often telling as much of the story as the dialogue itself.

Overall, this is a very promising first issue that successfully combines small-town drama with creeping supernatural horror. It introduces its world and characters effectively while planting enough mystery and menace to keep readers invested. By the end, it feels as though the story is only just beginning, and I am definitely interested to see where the series goes next.

Vault Comics Announces That Netflix Will Adapt Hit Fantasy Series, Barbaric

Big news from Vault Comics, with news that Netflix is planning on adapting the excellent series Barbaric!

As previously reported in The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline, Netflix has announced it will be adapting Vault’s hit fantasy series, Barbaric, as a new episodic series.

“Barbaric has been the mainstay of fantasy comic books for the last six years. The first issue came out at a time when everyone said fantasy comics were dead and it changed the entire industry’s mind,” said Vault Editor-in-Chief, Adrian Wassel. “Now, as Owen and Axe take to the screen, even more people get to see why Barbaric is the most important sword & sorcery series since Conan.”

“We published Barbaric with one single goal: give the world the fantasy comic they’d been missing for years. It was a resounding success,” said Vault CEO, Damian Wassel. “Now we get to share that incredible story with a whole new audience. Whether they also join us as readers, or just stream the madness, we’re sure a whole host of fans are going to fall head over bloody heels for Owen and Axe.”

Barbaric is co-created by writer Michael Moreci and artist Nathan Gooden; Gooden is also a co-founder of Vault Comics. Debuting in 2021, Barbaric rapidly secured its place as a critical-darling and fan-favorite. As of 2026, Barbaric is currently on its fifth volume, and is one of the best-selling fantasy comics of the past decade.

Academy Award nominee Sheldon Turner (Up In The Air, X-Men First Class) will co-showrun and write the Netflix series along with Robert Rovner, who is best known for his showrunning and writing work on CW series Supergirl.

Also on the exec producing team are Jennifer Klein, Turner’s partner at the duo’s 100% Productions, Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson for A+E Studios, TV veteran Javier Grillo-Marxuach (Lost, The Witcher), and F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel for Vault Comics. Actor Sam Claflin (Me Before You, Peaky Blinders), along with Luke Carroll, and Michael Stevenson, are exec producing via Soft Claw Productions.

“We’ve got a dream team putting this project together, and I couldn’t be happier—especially since Barbaric fans are the best fans in the world, and I know how much they’re going to love seeing this story brought to life in such a major way,” said series writer Michael Moreci. “This is going to be an exciting ride.”

“Barbaric is a story full of big characters and crazy action, a lot of it pulled straight from my imagination,” said artist Nathan Gooden. “We have such a great team bringing this story to the biggest streaming platform in the world, and I can’t wait to see it come to life. I feel lucky to share Barbaric with new audiences and at the same time give comic lovers a chance to rediscover Barbaric in a new medium.”

Manga Mavericks Books Announces New Manga Series - Tie Me Up, Stare Me Down.

Looking forward to May 2027, Manga Mavericks has announced the omnibus of Tie Me Up, Stare Me Down.

Manga Mavericks Books, a manga publisher serving the North American market from Manga Mavericks LLC, announced a newly licensed title during its online licensing event Manga Mavericks Monday.

The latest release is the mature romance series TIE ME UP, STARE ME DOWN by Zawayuki Taki (published in Japan by SHINCHOSHA), which will be released as a complete omnibus edition in May 2027 in both print and digital formats.

TIE ME UP, STARE ME DOWN creator Zawayuki Taki has gained a passionate following online for the endearing themes in their work and thoughtful depiction of BDSM culture. Zawayuki has also previously done illustration work for American comic publisher Image Comics, having drawn one of the variant covers for Tigress Island #2 by Patrick Kindlon and EPHK, and two variant covers for the upcoming Gehanna In Tokyo one-shot by Marco Ferrari, Patrick Kindlon, and Atsuji Yamamoto (manga creator of Sinbad).

Sawada finds himself crushed by the responsibilities and expectations that come with being in charge of the sales and marketing department of a grocery store chain. One night, when looking for a place to drink and relax, he spots a sign for a “Fetish Bar.” Upon opening the doors to this bar, he’s greeted by the sight of women in bondage! When Nana, the queen of the bar, gives him “special” care, Sawada experiences a sense of liberation and pleasure he never thought possible.

I picked up the first issue of this new series on a whim. Firestorm was a character I was aware of from the Justice League cartoon and Legends of Tomorrow, but not one I had read in any comics.

Wow, that first issue was dark, but here, things continue along that route, interspersed with some excellent character moments, origins and a good hook for the rest of the arc. This seems to add a lot more to the Firestorm lore and makes an interesting character, with some great work on the threat.

The artwork is excellent, with a great mix of the now, flashbacks and…. somewhere else. I like the colouring too.

The end of this issue has a fantastic hook, and I am looking forward to seeing how explosive the next issue is!

About the Story

In the year 2204 humanity has unlocked the power of Augmentations: implanting the genes of one organism into another. As a result a new subspecies of human has emerged: Homo sapiens augmentum.

This comes at a cost, however. Sometimes the augmentations do not take and corrupt the genetic code, triggering rapid mutations creating what is known as a Chimera. All sense of self is lost as the amalgamation of animal parts, leaving the victim a bestial husk of a being.

There’s another price too. All augmentations come with a price tag produced by the future’s many megacorporations. In the race to develop cutting edge augmentations, Corps have turned to growing humans in a lab, with desirable traits already endowed.

One example of this are the Rangers, enforcers of the law, augmented to give them an edge in combat against Chimeras.

In the floating city of New Lemuria one such ranger, Furina, boasts venom potent enough to take down an elephant. Her purpose is simple: hunt Chimeras and uphold the law in the city. However after her superiors cast her aside she’s recruited into a scheme by Sal, an old friend with large ambitions. She has her sights set on a revolutionary new augment held deep within the vaults of the city’s most powerful corporation. This job will teach Furina what it means to be Augmented.

Augmented: A biopunk action one-shot

Fandom Limb Media is launching the Kickstarter campaign for the second issue of their Supernatural Detective series Westron on June 1 , with 5 variant covers, digital copies and copies of the first issue avaiable to backers, along with a variety of add-ons. Their first-issue campaign was fully funded in just 6 hours.

Westron is a dark detective thriller in the tradition of Nordic Noir, with an underpinning in Slavic supernatural lore, Written by Shawn McBee and Maciej Jankowski and featuring art by Nicolás Nieto and Matías De Vincenzo

The Story

When the corpse of a young woman is discovered in the woods, the police turn to private investigator JAN WESTRON to help them find her little sister, who has been missing since the pair left their home together three days prior.
Westron’s investigation turns up troubling evidence that points to a deeper mystery and a terrifying culprit. The case brings up memories of his youth more than a decade prior: the horrific loss of a friend that would change the course of his life forever.

The Creators

Shawn McBee is a film industry veteran with experience working alongside comics legends Geoff Johns and James Robinson. As Keeper of Lore for DC’s Stargirl, he honed the skills that he brings to bear in telling this dark tale of intrigue.

Maciek Jankowski was raised on the oral traditions of the Slavs; fanciful myths full of horror which have shaped the storytelling sensibilities he used to create Westron.

Having now caught up with issue #1 and getting the chance to read an advance copy of issue #2, I can honestly say Westron is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing indie comics I’ve read in a while. What starts as an investigative mystery quickly reveals something much darker and far more unsettling beneath the surface, and the story handles that slow reveal brilliantly.

Jan Westron himself is a fascinating lead character. There’s a real sense that he carries a heavy past with him, and the flashbacks to his younger years do a great job of adding depth to his personality and motivations. They never feel forced or simply there for exposition — instead, they gradually build a clearer picture of who he is and why he approaches situations the way he does. The more time spent with him, the more compelling he becomes.

One of the strongest aspects of the series is the way the investigation unfolds. The writing gives Westron’s deductions and thought process room to breathe, allowing readers to follow his reasoning naturally rather than rushing from plot point to plot point. There are also plenty of smaller character moments and subtle details layered throughout both issues that quietly build tension and expand the world around him. It makes the mystery feel richer and far more immersive.

Visually, the comic is outstanding. The artwork captures both the grounded detective elements and the creeping supernatural horror extremely well. The flashback sequences especially stand out thanks to some really striking colour choices that immediately separate past from present while adding atmosphere and emotion to those scenes. In contrast, the modern-day setting has a grimy, uneasy underbelly that makes the town itself feel dangerous and unpredictable. Whenever the supernatural side begins to emerge, the visuals pull you even deeper into the story.

Overall, Westron #1 and #2 deliver a fantastic blend of mystery, character work, and supernatural tension. It’s the kind of comic that steadily draws you in and leaves you wanting answers while keeping you hooked on the journey itself. Definitely a series worth backing on Kickstarter — and if you haven’t read the first issue yet, now’s the perfect time to catch up before issue two launches.

A good combo issue. We move Silver’s story forward with someone just like her; meanwhile, we get some action and see the points of view from the resistance and the collaborators!

Slightly predictable but enjoyable nevertheless, with a creepy finish. I like the rush at the end, and the artwork really got it with that reveal!

Some creepy revelations and some great artwork. Setting up for a battle in the next issue and moving the story on fast.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #18 brings this current story arc to a satisfying close while doing an excellent job of setting the stage for what comes next. The issue feels packed from beginning to end, balancing intense action, sharp humour, emotional character moments, and major developments that could have lasting consequences for the Turtles and their family.

Karai’s ongoing struggle to free herself from the curse remains one of the strongest elements of the issue. Her confrontation with Leonardo delivers some hard-hitting action, but there is also an emotional weight behind it because of how closely it ties into Splinter’s earlier fears and predictions about the fate of his sons. The story does a great job of making those warnings feel meaningful rather than just background setup, and the tension surrounding Leonardo’s role in everything adds extra depth to the conflict.

One of the most interesting aspects of the issue is the way the two sides of Splinter are handled. Both versions of him feel distinct, with one driven more by concern and uncertainty while the other projects confidence and determination. That contrast gives Splinter a huge presence throughout the story, and his influence hangs over almost every major moment. By the time the issue reaches its climax, the emotional and mystical elements come together in a way that feels impactful, while also clearly signalling that major changes are coming for the TMNT moving forward.

Michelangelo also gets some standout moments here, which was great to see. His role in the adventure adds both humour and heart, but the detail that he is the only Turtle who can speak Japanese was an especially clever touch. It ties back nicely to the first issue of this new run and helps the series feel more connected and thoughtfully planned. Small callbacks like that really help strengthen the continuity and reward readers who have been following along since the beginning.

Visually, the issue is fantastic throughout. The artwork captures both the fast-paced action and the mystical atmosphere extremely well, and the colouring helps elevate many of the more dramatic moments. The story's supernatural aspects, in particular, benefit from the strong visual presentation, giving the issue a sense of scale and intensity that makes the finale feel even bigger. The creative team does an excellent job of making every emotional beat and action sequence land with real impact.

Overall, this was a brilliant and emotionally satisfying conclusion to the arc. It wraps up several major threads while leaving readers eager to see what comes next. With the story ending on such a dramatic shift in the TMNT’s status quo, it will be exciting to see where the series takes the characters and their family from here.

King Dracula #4 delivers a thrilling conclusion to the current storyline while also laying the groundwork for a very different future for Dracula. The issue wastes no time getting into the action, pushing the story forward at a relentless pace and giving the finale a real sense of urgency from beginning to end. At the same time, it leaves readers with a fascinating new status quo that could completely reshape Dracula’s role in the series going forward.

From the outset, Dracula is in an incredibly vulnerable position, hovering dangerously close to death while the seemingly unstoppable Vampire God continues to dominate everything around it. The threat level feels enormous throughout the issue, making it clear that even Dracula himself may not be powerful enough to survive what is coming. That sense of desperation adds a lot of tension to the story, especially as the remaining vampires — alongside the ever-determined Van Helsing — realise they have little choice but to stand together against a godlike enemy. Their efforts to hold the line and buy Dracula enough time to recover and confront the Vampire God himself create some of the issue’s most intense moments.

The action begins almost immediately and barely lets up. Vampires are constantly clashing with one another, whether over survival, power, or loyalty, and the chaotic nature of the battles makes the whole issue feel dangerous and unpredictable. Every confrontation carries weight because the characters are fighting not just to win, but simply to stay alive. The pacing reflects that desperation perfectly, as the story moves rapidly from one brutal encounter to the next without losing momentum.

What makes the issue especially effective is its relentlessness. There is very little downtime, which suits the escalating conflict and helps maintain the pressure throughout the story. It is only towards the closing pages that things finally slow down slightly, allowing Dracula a rare moment of reflection after everything he has endured. Those quieter scenes stand out because they hint that the events of this storyline may have changed him in important ways. Dracula faces major decisions, and the possibility of Van Helsing being involved in his future adds another layer of intrigue. Their complicated relationship remains one of the most interesting aspects of the series, and the ending leaves plenty of room for that dynamic to evolve further.

The artwork plays a huge role in making the issue work as well as it does. The battle scenes are energetic and intense, with the creative team doing an excellent job of handling fights in tight, chaotic environments. Despite the cramped settings, the action remains clear and easy to follow, which helps the fast pacing tremendously. The various attacks, supernatural powers, and defensive moments all come across with strong visual impact, while the colouring adds extra atmosphere and energy to the story's darker, blood-soaked tone. The art captures both the brutality of the combat and the supernatural horror elements extremely well.

Overall, this issue serves as both a satisfying conclusion and a major turning point for the series. It wraps up the immediate conflict in dramatic fashion while also effectively rebooting Dracula’s direction moving forward. With such a significant shift in place for Dracula and the supporting cast, it will be very interesting to see where the story goes next and how these events continue to shape the future of the series.

Space Ghost #11 picks up after the huge events of the previous issue and immediately throws the characters into an even more dangerous and unpredictable situation. With the Space Ghost family scattered across different points in time, the story creates a strong sense of tension from the start, as everyone must deal with separate threats while trying to find their way back together.

Tempus continues to be a major threat, and his decision to send his minions after Space Ghost adds plenty of excitement and urgency to the issue. Stranded in the past alongside Blip, Space Ghost is pushed into a situation where he cannot simply rely on brute force or his powers alone. Instead, he has to think strategically and use his intelligence to survive and outmanoeuvre his enemies. This side of the character is handled extremely well, showing just how resourceful and adaptable he can be when backed into a corner. The action scenes are exciting and fast-paced, but they also highlight Space Ghost’s cleverness, which makes the battles feel more engaging than straightforward fights. Blip’s involvement is another strong aspect, as he proves to be more than just comic relief and plays an important part in helping Space Ghost fight back and navigate the dangerous situation.

Meanwhile, the future storyline delivers just as much excitement. Jan and Jace, alongside an older version of Jace, create some really interesting character dynamics, especially during battles against several familiar enemies. The action in these scenes feels meaningful because it is clear that what happens here could have major consequences later on. The interactions between the younger and older Jace were one of the highlights of the issue for me, as they added both emotional depth and curiosity about what the future may hold for these characters. Seeing the two versions of Jace together also adds an extra layer of intrigue, making the time-travel elements feel important beyond just a backdrop for the action.

The issue does an excellent job of balancing its different timelines without either one feeling less important. Both stories move at a strong pace, and the tension steadily builds as the issue progresses. Just when it seems like Space Ghost may finally be getting closer to escaping his predicament, the story delivers a major twist ending that leaves him in even greater danger than before. It is a genuinely effective cliffhanger that raises even more questions about how the heroes will get out of this situation. The arrival of Jan and Jace adds another layer of suspense, because it leaves readers wondering whether their presence will actually be enough to change the outcome.

The artwork throughout the issue is also fantastic, doing a great job of bringing both time periods to life. The creative team handles the transitions between past and future smoothly, giving each setting its own atmosphere while maintaining the story's overall energy. The action scenes are dynamic and full of movement, while the character expressions and visual storytelling help sell the emotional moments as well. The villains in particular look great, adding to the larger-than-life feel that suits Space Ghost perfectly. Combined with the strong colouring and detailed backgrounds, the art helps make the issue feel exciting from beginning to end.

Overall, this was another excellent instalment in the series. It builds naturally on the previous issue while expanding the story in some very interesting ways, blending action, character development, and time travel drama together extremely well. The cliffhanger ending leaves plenty to look forward to, and I am already excited to see what happens next for Space Ghost and his family.
