This was an interesting one-shot story. Usually, these one-shots make a good issue to either reintroduce a character or maybe add some lore to the story. This does both.

First up, for new readers, you won’t get bogged down in an excess of history - it can be enjoyed without reading the previous story arc that is referred to in the issue. You get some classic Phantom action, complete with branding of villains and a packed issue.

Those who read the previous arc will have a little more knowledge of the characters and the reason why the Phantom is going after them.

In addition to this, there is a nice tease as to what the Phantom’s next adventure will be during a quieter recovery moment.

Combining this clever storytelling with some excellent art that shows the action well makes this an easy book to pick up and enjoy!

The first teaser trailer for the forthcoming Rogue Trooper movie was revealed today as part of a Deadline interview with filmmaker Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Mute, Warcraft).

The teaser was released alongside 4 new stills taken from Rogue Trooper, which is due for release later this year. You can view the teaser here!

Rogue Trooper is a fully animated science fiction feature from Rebellion and Liberty Films. Taken from 2000 AD, the legendary British comic book, which is also home to Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper was co-created by artist Dave Gibbons (Watchmen, Kingsman) and Gerry Finley-Day and has been adapted for the screen by Duncan Jones.

Rogue Trooper is produced by Stuart Fenegan (Moon, Source Code, Mute, Warcraft) alongside Jason Kingsley (Dredd, School's Out Forever), Chris Kingsley (Dredd, School's Out Forever) and Duncan Jones.

This second arc continues a strong series, and this fourth issue was one that really popped for me.

After intrigue and betrayal, we had a big hook from the last issue, and this one jumps straight into that endpoint. With some excellent action, combined with the storytelling that is going on around these groups of immortals living in our world, there is a lot to take in while reading this non-stop issue.

With plenty of gore, it all fits well with the story's themes; there are inter-family disputes and plenty of action set pieces. This issue serves as an excellent point for the story's real thrust to unfold.

I love the art style, especially the mix of the past and the present, which also adds to the characters' feelings in the story.

Where will all this lead to? I have no idea, but like on the train in this issue, it’s a fantastic ride!

Time Bomb Comics is delighted to announce Gerry Anderson’s Project SWORD. This new full-length graphic novel, written by Lizbeth Myles (Big Finish’s Doctor Who, Blake’s 7 and Survivor) with artwork by James Gray (IDW, Star Trek, Gerry Anderson’s Space Precinct), is based on a 1960s Gerry Anderson TV series concept that was never fully realized.

Set in the year 3031, Project SWORD imagines a future reshaped by catastrophe when a colossal meteorite strikes Earth and burrows into its core. Rather than ending the world outright, it destabilises the planet. Vast regions sink beneath rising seas, volcanic activity tears at the surface, and civilisation faces a slow, frightening collapse. The responsibility for saving humanity falls to the Space World Organisation for Research and Development - Project SWORD.

The title is the latest release as part of Time Bomb’s successful ongoing licensing partnership with Anderson Entertainment Ltd to produce original comics based on series created by enduring fan-favourite Gerry Anderson. The Spectrum anthology showcased stories from the worlds of New Captain Scarlet, Space Precinct and Terrahawks. Unlike those, however, Project SWORD’s TV show was never released.

Unusually for the time, Project SWORD’s tie-in merchandise was launched ahead of the show to create excitement. Unfortunately, the series was never produced. For 60 years many Gerry Anderson fans have wondered what it might have looked like based on the details suggested by the toys produced, the serialised strips in TV21 comic weekly, and a one-off comic Annual.

“The creator brief was simple,” explained Time Bomb Publisher Steve Tanner, “to imagine Gerry Anderson’s Project SWORD as a popular contemporary TV show being produced today but still retaining the unique Anderson tone and style of old, and then create a faithful comics adaptation of one of its episodes!”

This approach has resulted in artist James Gray taking the original concept ideas and creating modern designs, vehicles and hardware inspired by Gerry Anderson’s sixties vision, but all approved by Jamie Anderson of Anderson Entertainment.

Speaking on how she rose to the challenge of building the world of Project SWORD, Lizbeth Myles said; “It was a fascinating challenge. Gerry Anderson has created many incredible worlds, but few exist as a single annual for an unmade telly show. Even with so little material, I wanted to be true to what there was, which meant drawing on nibbles of world-building, characters with only a panel or two, and epic vehicles that had pictures but were never in any of the annual’s stories.”

Time Bomb Comics will be launching a Kickstarter campaign for Gerry Anderson’s Project SWORD at the end of April, also feature exclusive reward content, through which advance digital and printed editions of the book will be available before the full release later this year.

Following on from the excellent initial Killtopia arc, Phantoms throws us into the story as we see what came next! There is an excellent framing technique that allows us, as readers, to get straight into the story.

The various characters are well introduced, and I really like the different reactions and factions that are involved in the story. Of course, there is something deeper here, and the plan looks to be an interesting one that draws you in.

The artwork - combining the character expressions and actions - is excellent, along with some brilliant scenery for the Killtopia world.

If you haven’t read the previous story, then check it out, but I would say you can jump straight in and get into this excellent story.

The Story

In Arks Proximan #2, Audie and Anna-Mae Bluford are dead. Their colony on Proxima has been destroyed, and all of it happened because their son Odd pinched a girl - the messenger they found in a beam of light.

But as Odd shelters from radioactive fallout in a cave with his companion A.I Stella, they uncover the truth.

The girl was not a messenger.

She was a bomb sent from Earth.

Now they have only one option.

Odd must set out on a desperate mission across the treacherous, irradiated surface of Proxima B to find a Synth Well on the far side of the exoplanet - in the vain hope that it contains bacteria capable of resurrecting copies of his parents.

The journey will take the rest of Odd’s childhood, and the cancers he’ll develop along the way will likely kill him.

Luckily, he’ll not be alone.

Odd travels with a herd of transplanted animals, two frogs, a snake-like A.I… and Burp - a grotesque, burping backpack that keeps him alive by recycling his own skin and faecal matter.

Because to survive the 7,483 miles of radioactive wilderness, Burp will have to eat- Him. The animals. Everything.

What is Arks Proximan?

Creator Rory Collins describes Arks Proximan as:

“A bio-punk odyssey - the hero’s journey run amok mixed with the real consequences of the unexplored sciences of science fiction.
It’s part eldritch horror, part Oedipus Rex , and part Forrest Gump , told by a teenage boy at the edge of the universe.”

Collins explained how the project came together with writer Natalie Malla and artist Andrew Morris .

“I grew up on nasty 80s science fiction and there isn’t a lot of it around now,” said Collins.
“ARKS PROXIMAN is about what happens when a child learns the universe doesn’t care if he survives.
It’s inspired by films like Aliens and The Terminator , where the protagonist comes face to face with true nihilistic evil. Natalie and Andrew are phenomenal collaborators. I had the incredible good fortune of knowing them before they become megastars. Without them this story might not have been told for another decade.”

Writer Natalie Malla added:

“ ARKS PROXIMAN is a story of survival - not just of a single family, but of an entire species.
I would never attempt science fiction again without a clear and inspired creative vision like Rory’s at the helm. The scope of that vision pulled me into the Arks universe.
It will entertain you with the brutality and terrifying reality of building new worlds on a planet that doesn’t want you, show you how it might be done, and question whether it should be.”

The Origins of ARKS

Collins originally wrote Arks fifteen years ago as an independent science-fiction screenplay.

“Two people running around in the woods,” he explains. “A police procedural set in the Garden of Eden. Hard sci-fi. No bullshit.”

Since adapting the project into comics during the Covid lockdowns, the story has grown into a planned 55-book science-fiction pantheon exploring humanity’s future up to the 37th millennium.

Odd’s story in Proximan marks the beginning of “The War of Light,” the central saga that will ripple across the entire Arks universe.

Publishing Plans

Publisher Clicky Sprout Wife plans to release five books over the next twelve months.

Arks Helices #1 has already shipped, with issues #2 and #3 planned for Kickstarter later this year.

Arks Proximan #2 will ship in August, with Proximan #3 planned for early 2027.

Fans of the original Arks storyline, for which the last instalment is still pending, needn’t worry about this departure, as Arks Issue Six will be coming next year.

Collins assures:

“Arks Issue Six is likely to be our biggest book to date, so we need to grow the audience before we attempt it.”

Arks Helices and Proximan have a slightly more mainstream appeal, so they are being produced first before the nastier events of Arks Issue Six.

This is certainly an interesting beginning to a new series. Wonder Man has had some cameos in various series, but here he is on his own.

On his own? Not quite as there is an entertaining supporting cast here along with some different situations that you would expect in a superhero comic!

We've got Hollywood, agents, Hellcat and a mystery. This also nods to the recent East Coast Avengers series and a nice flashback and snide comment about Moon Knight. I especially liked the flashback scenes and how there are framed on the page.

In all, with excellent art, colours and a unique story, I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Fangbanger: The SUPERPOSITION Anthology is a collection of gothic and emotional short comics inspired by the band’s first and only album, SUPERPOSITION. I don’t think this series has been heavily on people’s radar, but I would happily get a collected edition of this story arc. The blend of characters is interesting, with some very strong personalities. In this final issue, many mysteries are solved, and the characters are put back in their boxes.

Even so, it delivered a fair amount of action, some humour and character moments. Both from the Avengers and the Killuminati. Some clever art and some good use of colour, and the different power dynamics.

There was even a cameo by Captain Marvel, which added some tension to the team dynamic (Carnage on the Avengers?).

This was a story with a good beginning and middle; this issue is certainly the end. Yes, the team could reform, but it was nicely set up as a complete arc, with no little hints at the end!

I think I must have read nearly everything Matt Garvey has written - he surely should be picked up by a publisher!

I backed The Skim straight away2, and was sold on the premise above. I have always enjoyed a heist story, and this did not disappoint. From the explainer at the beginning to all the twists and turns throughout the story, we get a satisfying start to an interesting crime story.

Of course, there is more to it than initially expected, but the way this story is told, you are so engrossed that you don’t realise it until it hits you, and the characters near the end - a perfect setup.

The art is excellent, along with the colouring, we get a great introduction with art on the road, casinos, back alleys, and the desert - all combining well with the style of the story.

When part two comes along, I will be right on it and ready to back it - I want to see what happens next. A great addition to the genre!

For me, this issue hit many buttons, making it an enjoyable read. First up, it deals with some of the backstory of the Goddess of Death herself - Keres. This gives us a snapshot into her past, with a look at the decisions she made growing up and how they shape who she became, as well as what she can do now.

From there, this issue links in nicely with the main series. It explains a recent revelation and adds a further dimension of mystery to the story arc running through the main books. You don’t have to read this to enjoy the current run; it does give you a little added information, though, while if you were to just pick this up, I think you would find it enjoyable too.

Finally, it reintroduces some other characters - specifically Holmes, Houdini and Lovecraft. These are all legacy characters and have had their own adventures. Yes, this story does tease something more with Lovecraft, but that may be something for another day. The reintroduction ensures that we don’t forget about these characters, as there is a lot in the Grim Universe1.

In all, an enjoyable book, with some great art to match the story.

I was intrigued with the idea of this story when I first heard about it, and it didn’t disappoint. The thought of a simple butterfly being both the cause of something so bad, as well as the blood-sucking, is an interesting one.

I had heard of the dancing plague before, and the linking of the horror element with a real-life, historical moment is a clever idea, and this initial issue has some excellent build to the final pages.

The horror aspect is all the more because you could imagine those silent wings and not think anything about it. One butterfly causes a cut - can you imagine what a whole swarm will do? That is what is coming to this sleepy town!

The artwork and colouring do an excellent job of building the story, with a dark, dreary town, and the butterflies' splashes of orange add a dangerous kind of beauty.

As a horror, it is going to be a fight against nature, and will there truly be a victor in the story?

I am a long-time fan of the Rocketeer, and this new mini-series adventure hits all the right spots for me so far.

Historical figures - check, with Amelia Earhart fitting in nicely with it, both being a cameo and the driving reason behind the story.
Tension - currently this is of the romantic side, but Cliff’s relationships have always been a staple of the series, and this is something slightly new for the character, dealing with a love rival! There is the tension from the mission, but I am also looking forward to seeing who the antagonists will be for the story.
Fast pace - we get some flying action, and this is both in planes and from the famous rocket pack, a nice taste of what is to come.
Humour - in spades and with its tongue firmly in cheek, I smiled at the first, and then there was an audible chuckle from the second cameo - one you may not expect!

The artwork does a perfect job in the cartoony, adventure aspect, along with the fast-paced action we come to expect from the character.

I think this works well for established readers, and new readers should have no problem jumping in and enjoying the ride!

That’s why this new series from Mad Cave Studios is the pick of the week!

Disco Hippo Wonderland is the number one amusement park in Flamingo City.

But few realise its corpulent owner, Jans M’jor Discau, is about to release the most potent drug ever created: Coke45!

Fortunately for humanity, Agent Clarke Nebraska is on the case! She’ll bring down Discau come heck or high water! That was the plan, until her undercover agent, Tico Senecoza, was captured! And before she can rescue him, Miquel, Tico’s sexy loose cannon of an older brother beats her to the punch, storming into the park with bullets flying.

Discau panics, dumping the Coke45 into the hippo enclosure and letting them loose on the park, before fleeing into Wonderland’s tunnel network! Nebraska’s plans are totally off the rails, and things get worse when a marijuana smoke fuelled hurricane drowns the park in torrential rain!

Now it’s up to Nebraska and Miquel to create an uncomfortable truce to bring Discau down before he escapes!

OK, so I knew roughly what to expect going in. You don’t have a comic titled The Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre without expecting some crazy goings-on.

This is why I enjoyed Cocaine Bear: it’s not a deep story, but the absolute madness of going through it is something to behold.

This includes the PSA at the beginning that sets the deranged tone for the rest of the comic. With sweaty bosses, massive explosions, slow-motion attacks1 and, of course, hippos, this was a wild ride from beginning to end. I hope the series' pace continues.

Having just got a new addition to the family1, this one hit close to home!

I previously covered Glow.

Sansha & Blanco is a graphic novel about two dogs who used to be strays, but now watch the world from behind a fence. Sansha remembers everything: the good old wild days, the open sky, the taste of freedom. Blanco doesn’t mind his new life that much.

One path leads to peace, the other to endless yearning for something just out of reach. Based on a true story, this 4-part tale features sepia-tinted vintage Americana visuals while exploring memory, loss, and the price of safety.

For all you out there who love animal narratives that tug on your heartstrings and make you ponder.

Muslim Futures brings together a multiverse of stories by veteran authors, filmmakers, and artists, imagining futures for Muslims in America and beyond. These are worlds where Muslims have the conditions necessary to thrive, and where stories are defined by authentic values of community care, justice, and love. Told in our own words and on our own terms, Muslim Futures envisions abundance and belonging as lived realities.

At the center of the project is writer, producer, and founder/CEO of The Utopia Studio, Karim Ahmad (Divide, Futurestates), whose work across speculative fiction, film, and social-impact storytelling anchors Muslim Futures in cultural authorship and imagination. The anthology takes shape across both graphic and prose formats, presenting a wide-ranging constellation of stories rooted in faith, care, and collective possibility.

Cyclops has been gradually building. He’s always had a fascinating backstory, with links to Jean, Wolverine, Mr Sinister, Apocalypse, Cable and more. He’s always been part of a team, though, and I think that his character from House Of X and through to the Age Of Revelation has really improved his standing with fans and allowed the new mini-series to come out!

This initial issue looks at Cyclops's past, including his time at the orphanage and his brother's brief cameo, along with the threat of the Reavers. It does an excellent job in introducing his skills and his mannerisms, and then chucks him into the forest all alone!

As an initial issue, it does a grand setup job, with all the characters in place by the end. Combines with excellent art that shows flashbacks, different scenes, and action.

A great team on board and the perfect time for this character!

As I mentioned above, I’m a fan, but this issue combined the action of Nova - blasting through space on a chase, and some of the humour and galactic issues around the character.

First up are the planet-side issues, with a unique way to refuel the Worldmind of the Nova Force, along with Nova's concerns and comments from the supporting cast. This works well and gives a feeling of danger whenever Nova uses his powers.

Then there is the chase, a former collegue, stealing his ship - with the crew on board - where there are some unique ways of dealing with mines and keeping up with the thief.

Finally, we get an interesting cliffhanger in the galactic politics, which rounds out the story in this issue really well.

The art and colouring have a whale of a time, with planet-side and space elements, powers, and explosions. An excellent piece!
