In The Beginning

So, we are on the lead-up to Halloween. We are yet to get our decorations up, but some nearby have. Some of the darker comics are coming out - as evidenced by my news and reviews below.

Have you seen Werewolf By Night on Disney+? I found it extremely enjoyable and found the tone and pitch of the story to be perfect.

Comic News

There seems to be a lot going on, so here is some of the latest news over the last couple of weeks.

GlobalComix announced a new addition to their ever-growing library of digital comics, with Storm King Comics.
There is some fantastic news from Vault Comics where West Of Sundown will now be an ongoing series. I enjoy this series and can’t wait to see more.
Mad Cave Studios has a new series starting. A Legacy Of Violence is a new maxi-series available in print and digital formats.
TidalWave Comics released a new biography comic featuring Loretta Lynn. This was in the process of being published when she died.

Looking forward to the future, and at MCM London, this month is the launch of a new comic - Speed Switch.
In December 2022, Rebellion is releasing its latest collection. This time it is Finn: Origins.
And Ablaze Publishing has announced what it has coming in January 2023 - including the new series and the latest issues.

First, there are two Kickstarter projects worth looking at - All In and Shadows are featured and still have time to check them out.

Special Offers & Sales

ShortBox has its comics fair now on.

SB Comics Fair is a digital comics festival- all the comics are pdfs (no shipping costs or waiting...), and 100% of proceeds go directly to the artists (minus stripe and Paypal fees... which go stripe and Paypal). The quality across the board this year is incredibly high, which I truly think is indicative simply from browsing. All comics are listed along with a blurb and multiple preview pages- as ever, I believe the proof is in the pudding in giving you a good look and feel for these books.

There are some excellent books here with a lot to choose from - go check them out here.

Received

An excellent selection of comics in the post this last couple of weeks.

The final issue of This Land by Mark Abnett. I got two copies of this issue as well. Find out more about this series here.
Genie Liang’s graphic novel, A Cat’s Day, is available now through Shortbox Comics. You can buy a copy here.
Sci-fi epic ARKS arrived, and it really draws me in. You can find out more about this excellent series here.
A Call To Cthulhu was a brilliant read, and it has some fantastic art to go with it. You can order a copy here.
Two volumes (one was a catch-up) of Gateway City. This has some fantastic art and a binding story. You can check out creator Russell Mark Olson here.
And Lustration & Other Stories features some deep and close-to-the-heart stories by Joe Latham. Follow him on Kickstarter here for his next project.

Reviews

There are two progs from 2000 AD worth checking out. I especially like that cover above as a new Hope story arc begins from Rebellion.

  • Review: 2000 AD - Prog 2302

  • Review: 2000 AD - Prog 2303

Building on the whole universe, there is a new issue from Zenescope Entertainment. Rise Of Cthulhu features some exciting stories and potential ramifications for the Grimm Universe!

  • Review: Grimm Tales Of Terror Rise Of Cthulhu

From IDW Publishing, the big storyline is now The Armageddon Game - and this latest issue of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is building some exciting aspects…

  • Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #133

Prodigy: The Icarus Society reaches its penultimate part from Image Comics. This issue had a lot of interesting world-building in it.

  • Review - Prodigy: The Icarus Society #4

And for the horror season, Archie Comics has a one-shot story. Chilling Adventures of Salem spins off of Sabrina and has a grim story with animals for you.
