In The Beginning

Welcome to this new round-up email. Here I will be posting some links and information from the last two weeks, along with some extra little items. Those of you who have come over from my TinyLetter list will recognise the format.

So in some news from me and for those who didn’t know. A couple of weeks ago, I suffered from a severe allergic reaction to a banana. Yes, seriously, a banana. I have been getting myself recovered from this incident and seem to be on the mend. I still feel a little twitchy, but have read that this is normal for a near-death experience. Some medical information - by all accounts, my blood pressure had dropped down to 70/40 when the paramedics arrived. Any lower and I would have had to have been shocked!
Needless to say, I have been avoiding the yellow bendy fruit. I am waiting for an allergy clinic referral, where they can test and identify what my allergy is to and what I need to avoid.

Comic News

So ComiXology has been responding to some of the feedback from readers. And it seems like we are going to have some changes on the way.

  • ComiXology Changes On The Way?

From the Treasury Of British Comics is a new Black Beth collection, with the option of digital and physical versions.

  • Out This Week - Black Beth: Vengeance Be Thy Name

Mad Cave Studios has a new series out now. Potions Inc. #1 is available in print and digitally, and I had the chance to have a read. It’s a really interesting beginning to the story, with some interesting magical aspects to it.

  • Potions Inc. #1 On Sale Now

There’s a new series from TPub to read. Amputation Capital is available to read now on the digital comics website GlobalComix. I’ve got it in my read pile and a review will be coming soon.

Round-Up

I’m still catching up on my reading at the moment, but I have caught up on the excellent Once and Future from Boom Studios. Not only does it has some excellent action and mythology, but it’s also UK based as well!

It looks like there is a new crowdfunding platform coming soon. They look to be offering a large number of creative tools, with different payment and funding options. These include:

  • A Creator Hub

  • Live Training

  • Live AMAs

The grand opening is on June 21st, so it will be interesting to see what comes up next. CrowdFundr can be found here.

There are a some new crowdfunding projects online now worth checking out:

On Kickstarter, there is Area 51: The Helix Project and SPECTRAL: A Showcase of Fear. While over on Zoop, there is Groom Lake - Grey Skies Above.

Received

From John A Short is Helga Frankenstein: Vampire Science. I was unaware of this series but got right into it. Check out some details on the series here.

On a Tuesday morning all the superheroes suddenly disappeared. All we have are...The Leftovers, The Anomaly Squad

This was an interesting beginning, with some great characters. I like the start, and will be looking forward to seeing what comes next. Follow creator Luke Halsall on Kickstarter to be notified on what is next.

From Wild River Comics is a new series, with magic and futuristic tech. I really enjoyed reading Daughters of Albion and you can check out Wild River Comics here.

Red Wave #1 was an especially interesting comic, and well-drawn too. Described as Kurosawa meets Raiders of the Lost Ark, the really works. Follow creator Nick Goode on Kickstarter for updates.
