Advance Kickstarter Review: Bats In The Attic - Part 1
From Blue Fox Comics
A new horror tale from Blue Fox Comics is coming to Kickstarter in July 2025, and I had an advance look at the first part of three: Bats In The Attic - Part 1.
May makes her way to her new life as a maid for a fine, but empty, manor, in the middle of the woods. Trapped and alone, she finds herself tending to the home of her master's late wife. Trying to perform her duties as best she can, she loses sleep, hears sounds that don't make sense and wakes with blood on her neck.
Bats in the Attic Part One is a 28-page, colour, Sapphic Gothic-horror comic written and drawn by Nina Poulston and lettered by Rob Jones. It will have 3 parts in total.
This was an intriguing read, and it had some interesting aspects to it. First up, there is the slightly unnerving introduction to the household, where we look at the manor and the hints towards what may have happened to the previous maids.
What follows is some classic horror, where we, as the reader, see some things and May, all alone in the house, is trying to rationalise the goings on as she works there. The reason for the house being empty also adds to the mystery. There are strange goings-on here, with some glances at something in the background.
The art does a fantastic job in adding to the tension within. We see May as she works her way around the house, and the darkness encroaches within. The splashes of red add to the story and the whole vibe to create an excellent look.
This was a slower start for some, but there is still much to discover and keep the reader hooked for what is to follow…
