A new mini-series from Image Comics - is detailed here:
Dead Romans #1 is out this week from Image Comics.
Arminius, a Germanic prince raised in Rome, has sworn vengeance against the Empire that butchers his people. He wants to make a queen of the woman he loves, Honoria, a fellow slave. Now, fifty thousand Romans will die to give her a throne she never asked for...or wanted.

Right off the bat, when I previewed this back in February, I was already on board. This looked right up my street with some excellent-looking historical fiction.
I was drawn in by the fantastic art and framing, which continue well through the book as we get the opening salvos to the war and the battles around. The character moments are artfully shown, with some excellent glances, battles and scenes. The darkness around feels like it is drawing in and makes for a fantastic feeling as you get pulled into this world.
The story itself is well crafted. There looks to be a wide cast - each with their ideas of what should be done, and they all have their agenda. For a first issue, this brings you into the characters well, with some good moments from both sides.
In this issue, we see that there are battle plans against the might of Rome, but there is something more - a Queen? Perhaps this is an intriguing development and well played out as we work through this issue towards the end.
Even with all of this, there is a good amount of action, with full-on battles, skirmishes and even some interesting one-on-one fights, with some brilliant artwork to go on with.
This is an amazing-looking issue, and I strongly feel that this will be a series where I will read the digital version and then get the collected trade so I can revel in it all over again!
