After running over 60 Kickstarter campaigns, Blue Fox Comics has a new comic coming, this time to Backerkit. I was lucky enough to have an advance look at Hexes: Four Breaths.

Hexes: Four Breaths is a 28-page, full colour, psychological horror comic written by Simon Birks, illustrated by Majory Yokomizo, and lettered by Rob Jones. When the ambulance carrying Barbara overturns on the way to the hospital, she explains to the paramedic, Tim, why her final breath is so important.
You never know what you are going to get with Blue Fox Comics. I know that you usually get something with a bit of mysticism and a lot of heart, and Hexes: Four Breaths is no exception.
Here we have two stories. One of the stories features Barbara, who is being taken to the hospital after having a turn when she was at the nursing home. As her part of the story progresses, we learn of her beliefs—the four breaths—and her upbringing with her mother. Add to that her recent loss, and we get some excellent moments.
On the other hand, Tim is the paramedic taking Barbara to the hospital, and he has worries and losses of his own. Fate brings these two souls together and traps them to tell this story.
The story itself is well-paced and moves at just the right speed. There are some excellent time jumps, and the bond between Barbara and Tim is fantastic and organic. The mystic aspects of the story are well done as well and keep you hanging on.
I love the art style here. It not only fits in perfectly with the story being told but also gives it a dreamlike quality. The colours and palette are perfect for what we are reading in all aspects.
Hexes: Four Breaths goes live in July/August 2024.
