One More Year, a comic about love, fear, and sacrifice, will be released in October 2024 from Blue Fox Comics to Kickstarter.
Ophelia receives her yearly visit from Jacob, who has a proposal from his boss - $5M for her soul - but Ophelia has other ideas...
One More Year is a 52-page, full colour, supernatural mystery comic written by Simon Birks, illustrated by Pietro, and lettered by Rob Jones.
This is an exceptional read. Blue Fox Comics consistently produces thought-provoking comics, and this one is not only thought-provoking but also drew me in right from the beginning.
I admit I didn’t read the blurb for this story. I preferred to jump right into the story, trust in Simon, and enjoy the read.
Wow!
This was brilliant. Throughout the 52-page comic, I felt no drag and was invested in the two characters as we worked through Jacob’s questionnaire and Ophelia’s responses.
These questions are well played out, and Ophelia’s responses are very clever and filled with humour and heart. As we go through the questions, we get a tour around the farm and a deeper look into Ophelia and hints towards the reasons behind the questions.
Of course, the questions have a sinister reason, which becomes clear as we dive deeper into Ophelia and Jacob. The relationship between the two is interesting and leads directly to an exciting and heartfelt ending. Something that I didn't see coming, but I ploughed on regardless, as I was so invested in the story and these two characters.
I loved the art style as we toured around the farm and farmhouse, with various animals and vistas. This, with the character's moments and expressions, is brilliantly shown. I love the colouring choices made in this, with the sunrise and yellowing tones working well with the story's art style and locale. The colour choices with the more sinister aspects are brilliantly played, and I liked the contrast and big scenes.
This is an excellent story with heart and history behind it. It shows the fondness for the format and the tale being told.
