This week from Image Comics is a new mini-series from the all-star team of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. This is The Ambassadors #1.

This is an exciting read. Bouncing between different locations and timezones, we look at the secret world. With experiments into superhumans and fake propaganda, it was a good buildup. I especially enjoyed the short introduction of the Scottish lad. The Superman use was well played out, and I liked the comments about the name…

Then we get into the meat of the issue - with the announcement that these superpowers are real and that there is a chance for people to gain them. Who would do that? And how are they being chosen?

One question at least is answered (kind of), and the reaction of the President caused me to smile as I read it.

The story finishes with an excellent twist, and this is something else - I’m not sure how it will fit in, but it adds to the excitement of the next issue.

I did get a slight feel of No Hero in this issue, which is not bad, but I like the private altruistic way these superpowers are being marketed.

The artwork is fantastic, with some sepia blends for the flashbacks and a wicked combination of action and character moments. The lighting in some of the scenes is brilliant.
