When a motionless giant is left as a reminder of the most painful day of your life, all you want to do is burn it to the ground.
When you jump into a new comic, there are some things that you have to take for granted. This hero can fly; we have colonised Mars, and aliens live among us. You get the idea. In this case, the usual thing that we get is that a giant turned up one day in a town and just sat down. There we go, and from there, we see the effect of this sitting giant who doesn’t celebrate the appearance of this giant. There is an exciting reason for this; from a child's mind, we get an exciting build of characters in this story.
Until it isn’t!
This well-plotted story takes you through the motions well, with some dark humour and entertaining scenes. Yes, there are some more ‘adult’ themes within it, and they are dealt with in the humour intended. As you work your way through the story, you may find yourself wondering where this will all lead.
And then you get a massive curveball that makes you re-evaluate everything you have just seen. It’s brilliantly done with style and a clever way of linking everything together.
I found myself re-reading the comic with new eyes, which gave me a new appreciation for the plot.
This issue combines a captivating plot, excellent art, cartoony aspects, and a real Viz-style feel. An excellent read.
