It’s always good to see a new book and series begin, and Capital P looks like an interesting series from Capeverse Comics.
Capital P Book One is the first part of a twelve issue comic book maxi-series from writer Sam Gardner Jr and artist Jerome Canty, with the official tag line reading “A hero with a no killing rule. A villain with a death sentence. And a lawman standing between them.” It’s the story of a masked man with a no killing rule who subdues a criminal. Things get complicated when he hands him over to a justice system that may be at odds with his beliefs. It was launched at DevCon Plymouth in March 2024 to an overwhelmingly positive reaction and continues to grow internationally online at www.capeversecomics.com and in person at events throughout the UK.
In the city of Chicago, cold winds aren’t the only thing that cut through the night. A killer is on the loose and a masked man with a Capital P upon his chest is first at the scene. Raised on four colour concepts of morality by the comic books that inspired his calling, this city’s newest protector must come to terms with a very chilling discovery. He’ll have to learn what that means for him in a world that’s a far cry from the pages of a superhero story. This is not a simple tale of good triumphing over evil.
Capital P is written by Sam Gardner Jr with art by Jerome Canty and it’s published by Capeverse Comics, a label set up by Sam and his wife, Chloe. A video has been added to the website where Sam talks about the book and his passion for superheroes, while Jerome discusses his 2000AD influences. The comic can be purchased digitally and in print through capeversecomics.com and followers can also access the social media platforms through the website.
To get a truly immersive first look at the comic, a trailer has been created, complete with cinematic music and an American voice cast. The trailer can be viewed on the website or on the YouTube channel here:
Sam also took part in a Capital P talk at the Devcon event in Plymouth, which currently can be found on Facebook, though will be added on other platforms later:

Growing Up Can Be Stinky…
From the amazing indie comics writer and illustrator Alex Schumacher (The Unemployment Adventures of Aqualung, The World’s Crummiest Umbrella), comes a book that was 30 years in the making—the forthcoming YA graphic novel from Mango Press, THE EFFECTS OF PICKLED HERRING!
With engaging illustrations that vividly bring the narrative to life, this poignant coming-of-age graphic novel about sibling dynamics and the enduring bonds of family.
As he and his sister Alana prepare for their B’nai Mitzvah, twelve-year-old Micah Gadsky and his whole family feel the world shifting beneath their feet when they learn a heartbreaking truth about his grandmother. The stress of the season leads Micah’s introspective nature and Alana’s outgoing disposition to collide, creating division and discord at a time when the family needs each other most. Before Micah can become a man, he must brave the storms of grief, confront the complexities of growing up, and ultimately, learn to lean on love when life trips him up.
A perfect blend of humor and heart, this book explores self-worth, identity, and the challenges of supporting someone living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Geared towards readers who enjoyed Liara Tamani’s Calling My Name or A First Time for Everything by Dan Santat, The Effects of Pickled Herring is now available in book shops and at your LCS!
