Fight for Truth, Fight to Survive—The Theory of K.O. Hits Hard!
From Nakuma Press, the first volume of The Theory of K.O. is coming in July 2025.
Nakama Press is bringing the heat with THE THEORY OF K.O. VOL. 1, the latest title from acclaimed French cartoonist Mathieu Reynès (Water Memory, Alter Ego); translated and lettered by Book Buddy Media.
Get an exclusive first look at this exciting 182-page graphic novel that pulls no punches—blending razor-sharp linework, explosive choreography, and stark worldbuilding into a high-stakes journey through a society on the edge. Brutal, breathless, and visually striking, The Theory of K.O. is a must-read for fans of dystopian sci-fi, underground fight circuits, and fiercely driven protagonists who refuse to back down.

The future, our world... After years of health, economic and ecological crises, a global civil war breaks out, ignited by a huge pharmaceutical and political scandal denounced by the activist group C.H.A.O.S. 15 years later civilization has recovered, divided between large urban centers, under military and medical surveillance, and freer rural areas, where those who refuse this system of health control take refuge. It is in this divided world that Beck sets out in search of her mentor Kal, who has been missing for several days. This quest leads the young orphan to the town of Bajara, known, among other things, for its free-fighting competitions.
Rendered in bold, dark inks and visceral motion, Reynès’ art explodes off the page. From sweeping wind farms to sweat-drenched showdowns, every panel carries weight. Readers will find echoes of Dragon Ball Z, Tekkonkinkreet, and Gunnm—but with a distinct voice and visual identity all its own.
Nakama Press continues its mission to deliver groundbreaking global storytelling, pairing strong translations with standout talent from all around the world.
The Theory of K.O. Vol. 1 hits comic shops, bookstores, and digital platforms on July 15, 2025.
David Lloyd Presents "Before We Sail"
Something that I have had a sneak peek at, and this looks to be an excellent series on digital comics publication, Aces Weekly. Check out the details of Before We Sail.
In Search Of Something More
BEFORE WE SAIL explores the consequences of life continuing in a society that has no confidence in having a future.
Created by CARLOS YACOLCA in his comics-writing debut, and drawn by MICHELLE LINO, in a return to comics after a six year break, BEFORE WE SAIL is a graphic novella in seven parts for DAVID LLOYD's online comics magazine, ACES WEEKLY.
"For me, art is a superior medium of communication, and comics the greatest art of all," said writer Yacolca. "Making a first sound is a difficult task, so I thought of creating something like a three-song EP to express my ideas as a starting point, to expand on later as I improve as a writer and a person. This is planned to be the beginning of a constant communication via other works."
Michelle Lino's art is lettered by DIEGO REVELO (Webtoon's Doble Detective Difunto). And the project has been edited by ALBERTO RAYO (Heavy Metal Magazine).
"This work was born from a deep admiration for comics. I'm fascinated by how the resources of graphic art— line, composition, color, and visual silences—can produce more than words can do alone, expanding the meaning and effect of any narrative," says Lino. "After a long break, coming back to comics with this story is a way of showing the evolution of my style, and a way of reconnecting with an art form I'm passionate about."
Yacolca added, "The genre of the story is a classic one. As it's my first shot, I wanted to start with some simple clay to see how I could mold it to express my ideas with. It'll be up to the reader to judge whether we've been successful in that endeavor."

"BEFORE WE SAIL" will be serialized over 7 weeks in ACES WEEKLY Volume 75, beginning on July 7, alongside five other great stories in a massive anthology of up to 150 pages, including extras.
- "Drells Marauders" from Gary Whitlock - "Sicarios" from Roberto Corroto and Ertito Montana - "The Whale House" from Andrew Cheverton and Tim Keable - "Mr Custa" from Phil Whitmore, Bambos Georgiou, and Mychailo Kazybrid - "Lazarus" from Paco Vilchez Barea
