This spring, brings DOG TAG, a six-issue war series from writer Mark Russell (Vanishing Point) and artist PJ Holden (Judge Dredd), with colors by JP Jordan and lettering by Buddy Beaudoin.
Inspired by real events from the final year of World War II, the series follows a soldier-journalist as the line between witnessing war and surviving it disappears. Issue #1 features variant covers by Sebastián Piriz (Black Beacon) and Erica Henderson (Harley Quinn).

Dog Tag is a fictional story about a very real war. It follows the life and thoughts of Corporal Tom Fuller through the final year of World War II as his service takes him from the invasion of Normandy to the surrender of Japan. Borrowed from real-world stories and little-known events of the war, Dog Tag asks big questions about the war while focusing on the heroism of the ordinary people who lived and died during the conflict.
“Dog Tag is the kind of World War II story I'd always hoped to write,” said Mark Russell. “An homage to a grandfather I never knew but who served in the war, a reminder of the consequences of giving a nation over to belligerence and cruelty, and also the re-telling of true but little-known chapters of the war through the eyes of a writer who is worried that no one will believe him when he tells them what the war is really like.”
Series artist, PJ Holden, added, “Growing up in the 70s/80s, I was exposed to WWII through a steady stream of War movies, great rollicking adventures, heroic missions, and manly sacrifice. Of course, real war is often nothing like that. Real war is often sacrifices made by scared, tired boys who are barely old enough to be classified as men. I hope from reading this book we can get a sense of the sacrifice required for even a “good” war.”
For readers of Slaughterhouse-Five, All Quiet on the Western Front, The Other Side, and Catch-22, and for fans of Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Masters of the Air, and Saving Private Ryan, DOG TAG offers a grounded, emotionally resonant take on World War II—one that prioritizes humanity over the hero.
Dog Tag #1 hits comic shops on May 6, 2026, with Final Order Cut-off falling on April 13. Preorder from your favorite LCS or directly from Mad Cave.
An Untold Conflict That Redefines Dakota’s Place in DC History
Expanding the history, DC Comics has a new special event that tells you more in the New History Of The DC Universe: The Dakota Incident.
DC Comics expands its evolving canon with NEW HISTORY OF THE DC UNIVERSE: THE DAKOTA INCIDENT, a 48-page standalone one-shot uncovering a long-buried flashpoint in Milestone history.
Led by writers Joseph P. Illidge (Milestone Universe: The Shadow Cabinet) alongside Stephanie Williams (Wonder Woman), Morgan Hampton (Green Lantern Corps), and Nikolas Draper-Ivey (Static: Shadows of Dakota), with art by Carlo Pagulayan (Superman: Lost), Valentine De Landro (Mr. Terrific: Year One), and Edwin Galmon (Superman) and others, with covers by Diego Olortegui, Denys Cowan, Dan Jurgens, Yasmine Putri, Carlo Pagulayan and Sway, the issue reframes Dakota City as a crucial battleground whose consequences still ripple through the DC Universe.
Illidge’s involvement grounds the story in both historical weight and forward momentum. Long recognized for his work and preservation of Milestone’s legacy and his ability to connect character, culture, and continuity, Illidge helps shape The Dakota Incident as more than an archival expansion. This is a recalibration, positioning Dakota’s heroes at the center of a conflict that forces them to defend not just their city, but their right to define themselves within a larger system of power.

Spinning out of the pages of New History of the DC Universe, uncover an untold moment in DC history, where a murder leads to an all-out war between the heroes of Dakota City and the U.S. government led by Lex Luthor. As their home becomes a battlefield, what must Static, Rocket, and the others sacrifice to keep their loved ones safe? But as heroes fall in the past, the stage is set for their return in the present…
For readers invested in Milestone, expanded DC continuity, and timely superhero storytelling, The Dakota Incident deepens the New History line while reaffirming Dakota City’s lasting importance.
New History of the DC Universe: The Dakota Incident arrives in comic shops on February 25, 2026.
Blockbuster Crossover Sonic X Godzilla Begins This Summer
A new, unique crossover to look forward to from IDW Publishing with Sonic X Godzilla.
The fan-favorite worlds of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG™ and GODZILLA are set to collide for the first time ever in comic books.
Speeding and stomping into comic shops this summer is SONIC X GODZILLA #1, a fun-filled celebration of both beloved franchises by writer Nick Marino (GODZILLA RIVALS) and artist Jack Lawrence (SONIC THE HEDGEHOG).

When the King of the Monsters and other iconic kaiju mysteriously arrive in the Blue Blur’s world, the brilliant and evil Dr. Eggman will try to harness the power of the kaiju for his own nefarious goals. Only Sonic and his amazing allies - including Amy, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow - will be able to stand in the villain’s way and try to send the giant monsters back to their own world.
"I'm doing my best to cook up fun scenarios for Jack to draw, and then I'm making sure my panel counts leave enough room for him to properly play around with the fantastic spectacle that this crossover deserves," commented Marino. "I'm fascinated by the scale of life, how we perceive lifeforms differently from bacteria to planet-wide ecosystems, from micro to macro. This particular character combination allows me to explore that in a fun way, and it's been really satisfying. I hope our readers agree that the result is a cohesive mix of these two visual focuses– small speedsters and massive monsters– that delivers the best of both worlds!"
“Sonic and Godzilla are such fun, action-packed franchises on their own, so it was a natural fit to pair them together, and it’s been a treat seeing the story and art come together,” added IDW’s Sonic Editorial. “We know how long fans have been asking for this crossover, and we wanted to make sure it’ll be worth the wait, so we’re going big: A mysterious portal, a massive kaiju attack on Sonic's World that inspires a new scheme by Dr. Eggman to take over the world, Knuckles and Shadow joining alongside Amy and Tails... and of course, plenty of Sonic and Godzilla!
An undertaking like this isn’t possible alone, though, so a huge thanks to our partners at SEGA® and Toho, who have been there every step of the way with guidance and support, and to our fantastic creative team of Nick Marino, Jack Lawrence, and colorist Reggie Graham, who have brought this story to life. It’s been a blast working on this series, and we’re so excited to finally be able to share it with fans!”
