The Adventure Continues! Flash Gordon and friends return in a brand-new adventurous anthology filled with sci-fi action and humor! Featuring stories by the most awesome cartoonists in the galaxy! Will Flash Gordon be able to stop an evil robot in time to meet his friends at the amusement park, or will it be destroyed before he gets there? Can Dale save Flash and Princess Aura from the worst day ever? Who has a bigger ego, Ming or Flash? All of these questions and more will be answered in this exciting new collection of short stories that focus on friendship, trust and doing the right thing against impossible odds.
Art Baltazar said of the project, “Working on FLASH GORDON Adventures is awesome! Reliving the stories I had in my imagination since childhood is so cool to see translated into comic book form! I am looking forward to seeing how other cartoonists continue this epic adventure with volume 2! I really dig working with PAPERCUTZ! It’s like hanging out with my fellow space adventurers!”
Illustrator Franco Aureliani echoed Baltazar. “Flash Gordon Adventures was so much fun the first time, I had to come back for another run at the silliness in space! So great to be in this new book with so many talented writers and artists! Returning to Flash, Dale and the rest and Papercutz is like being home!”
Stan Sakai said, “I grew up reading the classic Alex Raymond Flash Gordon and this version is a fun new take on the characters. I really enjoyed it!”
Maria Scrivan, “I had so much fun researching and learning about Flash Gordon and all of the characters, and had the best time working with the creative team at Papercutz. It was an honor and a blast to be part of this project!”
John Patrick Green said, “I’ve been a fan of Art and Franco for years, and always love their takes on iconic characters. It was a joy to contribute to their interpretation of Flash Gordon!”
The project’s editor, Adam Wallenta, said, “This is a dream project of mine. When we first started this series, my goal was to work with the best cartoonists in the industry, both celebrated legends and the best upcoming talent, to create a fun introduction to classic characters for readers of all-ages graphic novels. This volume features 20 of the greatest cartoonists and each short story is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. It’s always an honor, as an editor, to work with such incredibly talented people I am a fan of– and in this volume I also got to work with my son, Keola, who came up with the idea for a brand new character named Cat Gordon, after being introduced to the world of Flash Gordon. Now I get to help usher in the next generation of creators alongside celebrated legends. I think about how I was just a kid when I first started reading Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai in the early-eighties, and now to see him work his magic on Flash Gordon- it’s been a true honor.”
The book is available for preorder now wherever books are sold, including Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and Bookshop
Mattel and IDW Publishing to launch Street Sharks Comic Series This September
90s fun here from IDW Publishing and Mattel with Street Sharks. These characters should be highly entertaining in comic form!
Your local comic shop is about to get a little more jawsome. Mattel, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAT), a leading global toy and family entertainment company and owner of one of the most iconic brand portfolios in the world, and the award-winning company IDW Publishing, today announced the launch of Street Sharks comic books, marking the first new release in over 20 years and introducing the beloved '90s characters to a whole new generation. This series builds upon the partnership between Mattel and IDW Publishing.

Debuting September 2025 with STREET SHARKS #1 (of five issues), the series follows the action-packed adventures of the four Bolton brothers – half-shark, half-human heroes and crime fighters. Since its debut in 1994, the Street Sharks franchise has also inspired a popular Mattel action figure line.
Writer Stephanie Williams (Nubia and the Amazons) and artist Ariel Medel (TMNT vs Street Fighter) bring Street Sharks to the page. Based on the classic animated series, the upcoming comics will thrill readers as the Sharks protect Fission City from a range of gene-slammed threats, including super-strong and monstrous lobsters and squids, and diabolical mad scientists that transform into vicious piranha monsters. The comic will deliver on everything fans loved from the hit show and the tone of its era, from the Sharks riding cool motorcycles to eating a lot of burgers and metal while swimming through the city’s concrete to take down the bad guys.
“Celebrating over 30 years of the animated series, Street Sharks has become a cult-favorite and fans have been chomping at the bit to see more of the crime-fighting brothers Ripster, Jab, Streex, and Big Slammu,” said Ryan Ferguson, Global Head of Publishing at Mattel. “We are thrilled to continue the legacy of this franchise and dive deeper into the waters with IDW to extend the world of Street Sharks through new comic books.”
David Jonas, CEO of IDW Media Holdings, is honored to work with Mattel and have IDW further expand the legacy of the fan-favorite group of mutants. “True partnerships are founded on truth, communication, and flexibility. We are pleased that in the spirit of win-win partnership, IDW and Mattel have crystallized our focus to properties IDW is uniquely positioned — creatively and organizationally — to produce, distribute, and ultimately to delight fans of these iconic franchises.”
”It is so exciting to introduce a new generation of fans to the Street Sharks,” commented series editor Nicolas Niño. “The Sharks epitomize '90s adolescent X-treme sensibilities and that makes them translate so naturally to comics. Stephanie and Ariel are putting together a series that serves a beautiful love letter to the original cartoon that old fans and new are sure to adore”
