Just launched on Kickstarter is Romanis Magicae: A prequel comic.
From writer Matthew Blair (Kaijus and Cowboys) and celebrated British artist Paul Peart Smith (2000 AD, Judge Dredd), comes a tale of ancient Rome fantasy, the Romanis Magicae Kickstarter, coming soon from Heavy Metal’s Virus imprint!
Marcus is born as a Roman citizen in the early days of the Empire, raised to believe in the strength and dignity of his people. Crixus is born as a child of prophecy of his village, who are the last of a once great civilization, and is raised to believe that his people will rise to become great again under the eye of their snake god. The values and beliefs of both men are put to the test. The choices they make put them on a path that will see them meeting as enemies.
"Ancient Greek and Roman history has been a passion of mine since I was a child, but while many of us have enjoyed the dizzying amount of media set in ancient Greece and Rome over the past couple of decades, there is definite room for something new,” said Matthew Blair. “The story we've created shows the Roman Empire near the height of its power and majesty, but steps away from the grand marble statues and high politics and explores the darker, more corrupt, and dirtier side of Rome that doesn't show up in the history books and highlights the common humanity that unites us across the centuries. This is a dream project of mine and thanks to the support and passion of comic book readers and fans of ancient history I've been able to work with amazing artists like Paul Peart Smith, Eva de la Cruz, and Micah Meyers to create a book that is both familiar and different. It's a book that combines two of my greatest passions, and has only been made possible because of crowdfunding efforts through Kickstarter and the love and support of fans around the world."
"Working on Romanis Magicae has given me a chance to recreate the kind of straight ahead European and American adventure comics I admired as a child,” said Paul Peart Smith. “True villains, true heroes, action, exotic locales, creatures...all of it. Working with Matt has been a smooth process. I receive full scripts, produce pencils and inks for coloring and lettering, and we catch each other if we miss something. It's been a great ride into sword and sorcery!”
For fans of Hellboy and The Dresden Files, strike at the chance to fund Romanis Magicae, ending Nov. 7th. Colors by Eva de la Cruz, letters by Micah Meyers; with variant covers by Charlie Adlard (2000AD, X-Files, Mars Attacks) and Eisner Award-winning comic book artist Sean Phillips.
From Band Of Bards Comics is a new Kickstarter project - Magni the Mighty.
Ragnarök has come and gone. In its wake Magni and Modi, the sons of Thor, are left to rebuild the Nine Realms.

The first arc of this epic on-going series begins with Issue #0 (Prologue) and spans through Issue #4. With multiple side quest one-shots mixed into the series structure this will be an easy series for fans to join at any time. No need to wait on Ratatoskr to carry word to your branch of Yggdrasil!
Presented in an oversized comic containing Issues #0 and #1, Band of Bards aims to conjure up a classic that will be sung over and over in Valhalla. You don’t need the eyesight of Heimdall to see the excitement and adventure that awaits in these pages!
"Magni the Mighty is a Norse mythology comic unlike any other. A story crafted straight from the heart, unrestricted and full of action, adventure and equal parts fantasy that I hope all will come to enjoy. I have had a great time creating this project.” - Devin Arscott, Writer & Creator of Magni the Mighty
“Magni the Mighty is a comic that we just love. It hits on all the right notes of classic comic storytelling. Magni blends gorgeous comic art with true Norse mythology, bringing some of the lesser known characters from the fringe to center stage. We’re proud to say Magni the Mighty was a Day 1 “Project We Love” and is part of Kickstarter’s Witchstarter promotion! Shout out to Oriana Leckert for being a stalwart supporter of indie comics.” - Tim Stolinski, BoB Co-Founder
