Here are some of the latest crowdfunding projects that have caught my eye.
Over on Zoop, you can complete the story with the Complete Saucer County. I was a massive fan of this series and am glad to see it completed. You can get the final issue or the whole collection.
Now live on Zoop is the highly anticipated campaign for The Completed Saucer Country from Syzygy Publishing. This campaign will collect the entire Hugo Award-nominated science fiction saga for the very first time in softcover omnibus format. The tome clocks in at an epic 440 pages of story, including the brand new final chapter, plus back matter, such as scripts, rough drawings, and more.
Saucer Country originated as a 14-issue series at Vertigo Comics, with the follow-up 6-issue min-series Saucer State at IDW. It is the story of alien abductee Arcadia Alvarado's campaign to be US President... and her search for the truth of what happened to her, in the comic that suggested there was Russian intervention in US politics way before it was cool! And even with all the single issues, and trades, the story has never been completed, or available in 1 volume! This campaign gives the creators, writer Paul Cornell and artist Ryan Kelly the ability to add the rightful conclusion and final chapter to this story that finally closes the book on this epic tale.
Fans can back the campaign by pledging for a number of exciting rewards, such as the entire omnibus, or the final single issue to add to their existing collection. There are bundles, early bird specials, and opportunities to interact with the creators, signatures, original pages, and more!
Paul Cornell is a British writer of science fiction and fantasy prose, comics, and television. He's been Hugo Award-nominated for all three media, and has won the BSFA Award for his short fiction, an Eagle Award for his comics, and shares a Writer's Guild Award for his television. He's written Doctor Who for the BBC, Action Comics for DC, and Wolverine for Marvel. He lives in Gloucestershire with his wife and son.
Ryan Kelly is an American comic book artist, known for his work on books such as Lucifer and Local and Saucer Country. In addition to his comics art work he has had various exhibitions of his painted work and has produced illustrations for Time Magazine and Rolling Stone, among others. He lives in Minnesota with 3 children, 1 wife and 1 dog.
Zoop COO, Eric Moss shares: “Saucer Country/State is one of my favorite comics in the sci fi/thriller genre. The journey that the creators take you on through UFO conspiracies and political maneuvering is well-researched and exhilarating, and the tension is almost too much to bear heading into the finale. The timeliness of this project is strangely perfect in today's social climate, and Zoop is proud to be presenting it so comic book and sci fi fans can enjoy this epic story in its entirety and finally get some closure.”
Zoop is the new home for creator-owned crowdfunding. For publishers and creators, Zoop is an all-in-one pre-order, production, fulfillment, and marketing solution that connects them directly to their fans.
Over on Crowdfundr, you can get a new enamel pin and the chance to catch up on the Sagas of the Shield Maiden.
Sagas of the Shield Maiden is an oversized, Viking western, perfect bound comics anthology series (created and written by me, Asa Wheatley) that recounts the legends, or sagas, of the titular Shield Maiden as she traverses Scandinavia and beyond the North Sea.
Each tale takes place at a different point in the Shield Maiden's life. From her first raid in England to a spout of bloody vengeance and her eventual death. As well as obviously being heavily influenced by Viking history and Norse mythology the stories all draw upon traits and themes commonly found in the western genre.
You can get the pin, as well as digital and print packs.
