With some big events planned, IDW Publishing has announced some more news on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
After the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (TMNT) made their debut in a black-and-white comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird in 1984, the Heroes in a Half Shell went on to become a global phenomenon. Over the next forty years, countless talented people across the entertainment industry worked passionately with the beloved franchise, allowing adventures with new iterations of TMNT to consistently reach new audiences. Now, brilliant TMNT creatives from different eras are joining forces to present something truly special to fans: the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION.
With several new stories and pinup art pieces inspired by different eras of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this technodrome-sized issue with more than 70 pages will feature fan-favorite creatives returning to their respective eras for all-new tales. This special one-shot issue will feature new stories and pinup art from Jim Lawson, Ciro Nieli, Tristan Jones, Paul Harmon, Steve Lavigne, Andy Suriano, Ronda Pattison, Pablo Tunica, Freddie E. Williams II, Sophie Campbell, Tom Waltz, Lloyd Goldfine, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez, Dan Duncan, Erik Burnham, Sarah Myer, Luis Antonio Delgado, Chris Allan and more. Plus, the one and only Kevin Eastman will be contributing a story, too!
No TMNT anniversary celebration would be complete without the two people who created it all. This oversized issue will feature a primary cover with never-before-seen pencils from Laird that have been inked by Eastman, just for this special issue! Additional eye-catching covers will be provided by acclaimed artists Sophie Campbell, Isaac and Esau Escorza, Simon Bisley, Michael Dialynas, Vincenzo Federici, Khary Randolph, Emilio Lopez, Michael Cho, Dave Wachter, and an IDW Exclusive cover by Ben Bishop.
"Having a childhood dream – in my case to write and draw comics for a living, is one thing – to then actually spending every minute of the next 40 years doing it, is a whole other matter altogether – humbling is the first word that comes to mind,” stated Eastman. “My co-creation of TMNT with the amazing Peter Laird has been the driving force of living that dream, and working with a number of really talented writers and artists along the way has made, and still makes, the journey the greatest shared experience I never imaged and could not be more grateful for.” The iconic comic book creator added, “From the raw beginnings of a 40-page self-published black and white ‘origin of’ comic, to the 200-page full color ‘final tale’ of the original TMNT's graphic novel, THE LAST RONIN, I want to thank the people directly responsible – our fans. Without them, I would not have had the chance to live that childhood dream."
"What's amazing about the TMNT comics is just looking back over the breadth of the stories, how many creators have tapped in, and all the energy and excitement that has gone into the last four decades,” added Editor-in-Chief Jamie S. Rich. “It proves how great the original concept by Eastman & Laird was that it endures across media, across time, and the characters consistently find a new audience. This book tries to tap into as much of that as possible and bring back fan favorite creators to celebrate their contributions to the lore."
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMICS CELEBRATION will leap into comic shops on July 10, 2024 for $11.99. Fans have until June 3 to pre-order at their local comic shop.
Red 5 Comics has announced the second issue of Blood & Fire in June 2024.

With Quantum #7 out soon, Time Bomb Comics are celebrating an anniversary of this excellent anthology.
Quantum, an anthology of ongoing stories set in amazing and strange universes, has published in a physical-only format since January 2023. This May’s issue, No. 7, marks the start of the comic’s second year.
Launching a physical-only, Newsagents-first comic in 2023 may have seemed like a strange choice. The decision came from the huge success of Time Bomb’s 2022 Gerry Anderson Spectrum anthology, though over the course of this first year, Quantum has proven easily able to stand by itself.
Quantum has been available nationally bi-monthly in WH Smith's, alongside independent newsagents. Internationally, it has been distributed in Germany, Sweden, Australia and the United States. Part of the aim of this is to support local newsagents, something which is encouraged by the ongoing cover art competition. Quantum buyers can enter by taking and sharing a selfie of themselves and their copy of Quantum, along with the address of their stockist. One entry per month is randomly selected to win the original inked art of that month’s cover, and the winner also has their image printed in the next issue.
Recently, Quantum has also been made available via a Patreon subscription, which includes bonuses such as special covers, limited editions of out-of-print comics and more. The Patreon also offers Time Bomb publishers, Steve Tanner and Dave West, a place to share their years of experience in the indie comics field.
Commenting on Quantum’s ongoing success, Steve Tanner said; “Nobody launches new comics just into the newsagents anymore, least of all a small, independent publisher. I think when Time Bomb Comics launched Quantum in April 2023 doing exactly that, well, it’s fair to say that some people thought we were mad.”
“Our current plans to further expand Quantum’s availability, widen its readership, and take the Quantum brand in some unexpected directions may well confirm that we are. So, twelve months on, and with Quantum issue 7 about to begin the comic’s second publishing year, I’d genuinely like to thank all the readers and commentators who have embraced the madness!”
Quantum No. 7 is available April 18th, Quantum No. 6 is out now via Newsagents.
From Rebellion is the news that they have teamed up to bring some new special collections of Battle Action Force.
Battle Action Force was published weekly from October 1983 to November 1986 by IPC Magazines limited, and brought together some of the greatest talents in the British comics industry of that time, both on the editorial and illustrative fronts including names like Gerry Finley-Day, Geoff Campion and Cam Kennedy. Included within its pages were the adventures of “Action Force”, created by British toy manufacturer, Palitoy.
Four heroic Action Force teams: infantry specialists Z Force, ocean based Q Force, infiltration specialists the SAS and orbital guardians Space Force protected the world against the evil machinations of Baron Ironblood, The Black Major and their army of brainwashed Red Shadows.
Now, for the first time in over forty years, Total Toy Books, with kind permission from Hasbro and in collaboration with Rebellion Publishing and Skeletron, are proud to announce an officially licensed reprint of the Action Force tales from Battle Action Force collected in a series of deluxe over-sized ‘treasury editions.’
With original issues difficult to find and expensive to purchase in full, this is a collection not to be missed by fans of the original series - or for those who only discovered the existence of the comic in more recent times.
More details about this exciting series will be revealed in the coming weeks. Sign up to the mailing list at www.TotalToyBooks.com to be the first to find out more!
More news from IDW Publishing, with the return of The Hunger & The Dusk. This is an excellent series, and worth checking out.
Declared as “the best fantasy comic around” by AIPT, IDW Publishing is proud to announce the return of Hugo Award-winning writer G. Willow Wilson and all-star artist Chris Wildgoose’s acclaimed high fantasy adventure series with THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK: BOOK TWO.
After the success of THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK: BOOK ONE (collected edition on sale 6/11), the creative team is raising the stakes yet again to grip readers with even more action, drama, and romance in a compelling and imaginative world. With the human-orc alliance falling apart and The Last Men Standing in desperate need of a healer, the ruthless Vangol and rogue orc dynasties stoke the flames of war and put everything - and everyone - at risk.
"We're thrilled by the enthusiastic response to BOOK ONE and we can't wait for readers to find out what happens in the next arc of this journey,” stated Wilson. “There are some epic battles coming, along with what I hope will be some very satisfying reunions between certain characters. The war for survival teaches you who your real friends and allies are, and in THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK our heroes find those friends in unexpected places."
Wildgoose said the team is truly going all-out for this tale. "I'm really excited to pull our readers back into our world. I think with BOOK ONE I used the John Hammond line of ‘we’ve spared no expense’ when it came to our set of hot orcs and head chopping. I’d use that line again but with even more confidence.” The artist added, “We’ll be seeing our cast of orcs and men really put to the test as they try to come to grips with the Vangol savagely tearing through the land and their relationships, despite their best efforts. Along with some new characters waiting in the wings I think the readers of BOOK ONE are really going to love it.”
THE HUNGER AND THE DUSK: BOOK TWO #1 (of 6) will include the full creative team from BOOK ONE, featuring colors by MSassyK and letters by Simon Bowland, as well as primary covers by Wildgoose and variants by Cliff Chiang. The debut issue goes on sale 7/10/24 and fans have until 6/3/24 to pre-order at their local comic shop.
Thanks for throwing the spotlight on some cool looking comics. I'm surprised how giddy it made me reading that Quantum is available in WH Smiths. Bus ticket to the High Street on the morrow.
