Monster Fun has announced the release of a new collection of graphic novels, including Steel Commando and The Leopard From Lime Street. And an exciting tag line to their press release!
“DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE ISN’T FOR ALL COMIC
BOOK FANS – BUT OUR GRAPHIC NOVELS ARE!” - THE MONSTER FUN COLLECTION LAUNCHES!
“Everyone’s gearing up for big superhero moments in the cinema, but Deadpool and Wolverine isn’t for all comic book fans – but our graphic novels are! With super cool heroes that can rival those big screen characters.” says Monster Fun Editor Keith Richardson, as Monster Fun launches it’s first two graphic novels in The Monster Fun Collection this summer. This new range of graphic novels for children aged 7-12 collects up exciting stories from the epic Monster Fun comic, giving children a whole new range of books to love!
“In fact, our new graphic novels will keep kids entertained throughout the summer holidays.” Keith continues, “The movie’s age rating prevents so many young comic book fans from experiencing it. But The Monster Fun Collection won’t be doing that. We have brilliant books with stories suitable for all ages, and definitely a great alternative for those who won’t be allowed in to see the movie!”
The Monster Fun Collection aims to undoubtedly be the highlight of this year’s school summer holidays. After all, it’s not every day that a brand new line of children’s graphic novels launches!
The Children’s Book market shows children are devouring graphic novels like never before, with 425% volume growth in the category since 2019 (Source: The Bookseller), providing a more fun reading experience over traditional novels. The heroes of our graphic novels may have graced just the pages of the Monster Fun comic rather than the silver screen, but will provide the same amount of joy and entertainment to those who read them – as well as the main hero of each book having been around years longer than Marvel’s big screen characters!
The Leopard From Lime Street is the UK’s answer to Spider-man, and was published for over a decade before Marvel’s merc with the mouth even graced a comic book page. Meanwhile, whilst Wolverine made his first appearance in 1974, our very own metal-plated soldier Steel Commando has been kicking around since 1970! Whilst the versions found in The Monster Fun Collection are rebooted for a new generation of readers, the admirable qualities and fun stories that made these characters endure the test of time are present in the new graphic novels.
So what are the new books all about? Steel Commando: No Time To Lose sees World War II robot hero Steel Commando travel across past, present, and future to defeat the forces of evil on an epic time-travel adventure, whilst The Leopard From Lime Street: Birthright sees young Billy Farmer unlock his powers after being bitten by a radioactive leopard (these things happen, right?), uncover family secrets, and just maybe save his home town from destruction from dastardly super villains.
The brand new Monster Fun Collection graphic novels, Steel Commando: No Time To Lose and The Leopard From Lime Street: Birthright can be purchased now on Amazon or in the Monster Fun webstore; where individual issues, international orders, and subscriptions to the monthly Monster Fun comic can also be purchased.
From Magma Comix, and just in time for Halloween season, is The Night Of The Slashers. Check out the details below.
Roll out the Betamax, VHS, and hold on for Halloween—surviving the night is everything!
Magma Comix is proud to announce THE NIGHT OF THE SLASHERS!
New York Times bestselling writer Cavan Scott (Union Jack the Ripper, Star Wars: The High Republic) and artist Paul Fry (Spider-Man 2099, Green Arrow & Black Canary) bring the gore in this ultimate horror-loving slasher-fest.
Hill Creek is a lovely place to visit… except the one night of the year its citizens transform into bloodthirsty maniacs! Of course, that’s the very night Lara’s bus breaks down, stranding the disillusioned teen and her classmates in the secluded town. Secrets uncovered, terror at every turn—will anyone survive the night?
“As you can probably tell from the title, Night of the Slashers is a love letter to slasher movies, an obsession that began when I saw my first serial killer (Halloween 2 on a dodgy VHS at my friend's 12th birthday party) and has now been passed onto my daughter,” said writer and co-creator Cavan Scott. “It was only a matter of time before I came up with my own walking nightmare in the mold of Michael, Jason or Jason, but when I met artist Paul Fry and immediately bonded over horror movies, it soon became clear that one wasn't enough. If we were going to write a slasher, we wanted an entire town of masked knife-wielding killers. This series has everything we love in slasher movies! Victims, you can't wait to see sliced 'n' diced, larger-than-life monsters, gallons of blood and gruesome deaths galore. No one is safe in The Night of the Slashers. No one at all.”
Series co-creator and artist Paul Fry added, “My Dad owned a video shop when I was young. Way before the likes of Blockbuster Video. We were lucky enough to have a VHS and Betamax player which ended up in my room. I grew up watching more movies than you can imagine. I gravitated to all the superhero cartoons, sci-fi and of course horror films. Growing up when the original Star Wars trilogy, Alien and Superman movies initially came out didn’t hurt either and there was also the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. There’s nothing more horrifying than being chased by a monster that can rip you to shreds. Exactly my cup of tea—After speaking to Cavan about our love of slasher movies, and hearing a premise he had in mind, I was immediately intrigued and knew this needed to be done. Up steps Magma Comix who also loved the idea and the creation of The Night of the Slashers was soon fleshed out from the corpses of teenage victims. I couldn’t be happier.”
For fans of Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Scream, Magma Comix’s The Night of the Slashers #1 (24 story pages, $3.99) drops Oct. 2nd, and features Cover B by Robert Hack (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina).
More from Magma Comix, a new spooky series coming for Halloween - Day Of The Dead Girl.
This fall, dare to dream of the supernatural, celebrate Mexican and Latino heritage.
Magma Comix has teamed up with Scrappy Heart Productions’ dynamic writing duo, New York Times bestselling author and executive producer AJ Mendez (Crazy Is My Superpower) and SAG Award nominee Aimee Garcia (Dexter) for the comic book series for DAY OF THE DEAD GIRL, beautifully illustrated by Spanish artist Belén Culebras (DAY: Destiny After Youth, in 2021; Udumbara).
Death is never the end of the story. Coroner Sam Castillo will learn this the hard way, when a supernatural serial killer targets her hometown just as she moves back. A skeptical woman of science, Sam butts heads with her spiritual mother Ana, a leader of a witch coven specializing in Brujeria. But when the coven’s Brujas start turning up murdered, Sam and Ana must work together to find the killer and save their town’s Day of the Dead festival from turning into an occult bloodbath. As if sharing a bathroom with her mom wasn’t hard enough.
“Growing up, I didn’t see comics that reflected my Mexican heritage, so I’m thrilled to create Day of the Dead Girl with AJ and spotlight our rich Latino culture to readers,” said Aimee Garcia. “Not only will Belén Culebras’ stunning visuals thrust readers into the midst of a joyful Day of the Dead celebration, but this story will cut to the core of what binds us all together … death.”
“We can't wait for you to join us on this beautifully bloody adventure,” said AJ Mendez. “Writing this supernatural horror story was a twisted dream, and we really hope it gives you nightmares. Read our morbid, magical mystery at your own risk.”
"Drawing Day Of the Dead Girl is a dream come true, if you asked me what kind of story would you like to draw—it would be exactly this,” said Belén Culebras. “I love the theme of witchcraft and ghosts, criminal investigation, Latin culture... It's magical, I couldn't ask for anything better."
Scrappy Heart Productions was co-founded by Aimee Garcia and AJ Mendez to elevate diverse stories with universal themes, making underdogs the stars of their own stories. The duo co-wrote Universal’s Blade of the 47 Ronin, which reached #3 on Netflix’s Top 10 Movies List, and are developing Mendez’s New York Times bestselling memoir Crazy Is My Superpower for television with A+E Studios. They are the co-writers of IDW Publishing’s GLOW, based on the Netflix property, and Dungeons & Dragons, which made Sci-Fi’s Best Comics of 2020 list.
Day of the Dead Girl #1 (24 story pages, $3.99) hits shelves Oct. 9th and is now available for preorder. Cover B by Puerto Rican artist Yasmin Flores Montanez (R.L Stine’s Secrets of the Swamp).
Vault Comics has announced an upcoming horror/crime series that will start in October 2024. Godfather of Hell looks to be another classic!
Vault is thrilled to announce GODFATHER OF HELL, a dark and thrilling new supernatural crime series written by New York Times Bestseller Cavan Scott (Star Wars: The High Republic, Shadow Service) and drawn by Bram Stoker Award-winning artist Pius Bak (Eat the Rich, The Magicians). Blending neo-noir and hellfire, GODFATHER OF HELL is sure to be THE comic of fall 2024.
In GODFATHER OF HELL, Dario Santini has lived a charmed life as an enforcer and debt collector for mob boss Niccolò Mechini. He’s had it all: respect, power, even the love of a good woman. But everything changes when he crosses a line and is shot dead on the sidewalk. Waking up in Hell, Dario faces a future of pain and suffering… unless he can turn eternal damnation into a business opportunity.
The first issue of GODFATHER OF HELL will launch with an incredible line of crime movie poster homage variants drawn by a murderers row of star artists such as Nathan Gooden (Barbaric), Joshua Hixson (Deviant), Chris Shehan (House of Slaughter), Jake Phillips (Destroy All Monsters), Corin Howell (Lilith), and Conor Boyle (Judge Dredd).
“Two of my favourite genres collide in GODFATHER OF HELL: gangster noir and exorcist terror,” said Scott. “Brace yourself for visceral body horror, lashings of black humor, and moments of super-cool swagger brought to life by Pius’ neon-soaked art. It’s sexy, gritty and downright terrifying!
“Most exorcist dramas focus on the human victims and their saviors, but GODFATHER OF HELL flips the script, telling the story of multiple possessions from the point of view of the demons themselves. Our guide to the ultimate criminal underworld is Dario, a mob enforcer who, after a fatal shooting, receives an unexpected business proposition from one of Satan’s lieutenants. Hell, Dario quickly realizes, is just another racket, and if there's one thing Dario knows, it's how to work rackets. Can he play the Devil at his own game to save those he loves from eternal damnation? Or will he finally lose his soul?
“GODFATHER OF HELL is a demonic noir where human souls are collateral and damnation lurks on every street corner: a truly twisted tale of possession, passion and powerplay. I can’t wait for everyone to meet the devil’s new debt collector!”
Pius Bak added, “throughout my career I've explored various genres, but lately I've found myself naturally gravitating towards drawing weirder and creepier stuff. So was I thrilled when Vault approached me with a proposition to work on this unique twist of horror? And with Cavan freaking Scott? HELL yeah!
“The story is funny and sad, very cool and creepy, I'm genuinely enjoying Cavan's storytelling. On my part, from designing the characters to illustrating the covers, from sketching the layouts to inking the pages, working on this book has been immensely fun!”
GODFATHER OF HELL #1 will hit store shelves October 2024. The full synopsis for issue #1 can be read below:
