Baseball’s brightest lights hide its darkest shadows!
Mad Cave Studios is proud to announce
PAST TIME, a groundbreaking five-issue miniseries blending America’s favorite pastime with a supernatural twist!
This thrilling new sports-horror series is sure to captivate readers with its demons in the outfield. Written by New York Times-bestselling author Joe Harris (Great Pacific, Snowfall, The X-Files: Cold Cases),
Past Time is brought to life by acclaimed artist Russell Mark Olson (Gateway City) with letters by Carlos M. Mangual.

Henry Hayes could have been the best baseball player anybody ever saw, if only his dark affliction didn’t prevent him from playing in the daylight. But when the barnstorming circuit introduces a new novelty to the game—night baseball under the bright lights—will his dreams of playing pro ball finally be realized, or will his bloody past catch up with him before he gets the chance? From the midwest fields of the 1920s to the big city lights of today, Past Time is a small-town thriller on a National scale.
“I’ve wanted to make sports comics, generally speaking, and baseball comics in particular, for a long time," said Joe Harris. "Past Time is a love letter to the game wrapped inside a bloody horror story. Working with Russell to bring this very grounded and intimate supernatural thriller to life has been a treat. The baseball play feels real and authentic, and the monsters and monstrousness really stand out against that backdrop. So excited to be releasing my first project with Mad Cave! It’s hardly the last. More sports!”
Series artist, Russell Mark Olson added, “Growing up in the '80s, in the backwoods just south of St. Louis, meant two things: chronic poison ivy rash and Cardinals baseball. Whitey Herzog, Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee... baseball came first, comics second. When I was offered the chance to work on a baseball book with Joe Harris, I nearly bit Mike Marts's handoff. Add to the mix a Jazz-age backdrop with dark, supernatural elements—crumbs!—what's not to love? Joe's absolutely knocked the scripting out of the park. Each issue is filled with quality baseball action, shadowy mystery, and a fair amount of paranormal grit. This comic has hit the sweet spot.”
Featuring stunning cover art from celebrated illustrator and art director Mark Chiarello (Cover A), X-Force’s Adam Pollina (Cover B), and Star Wars Darth Vadar’s Rahzzah (Cover C)
, Past Time delivers a high-stakes story set against the backdrop of America’s pastime, transporting readers from the dusty Midwest fields of the 1920s to the bright city lights of today.
Past Time #1 hits shops on April 2nd, and is now available for preorder.
Mad Cave Studios: Be Prepared to STAY FOREVER!
Another new story from Mad Cave Studios, with some historical horror in Buried Long, Long Ago.
Buried in blood, bound by secrets...
Mad Cave Studios is thrilled to announce
BURIED LONG, LONG AGO, a new five-issue miniseries by acclaimed writer Anthony Cleveland (Show's End, Stargazer) and Bram Stoker Award-nominated artist Alex Cormack (Road of Bones, Sea of Sorrows, The Devil That Wears My Face)!
Featuring a beautiful variant cover by Eisner Award-winning Colleen Doran (Amazing Fantastic Incredible) with letters by Ringo Award-nominated Justin Birch, this chilling historical horror/dark fantasy series blends the atmospheric dread of Pan’s Labyrinth with the historical grit of From Hell, delving into themes of survival, corruption of innocence, and the inescapable weight of secrets.

Based on true events, from 1901-1908 Belle Gunness lured dozens of lonely men to her Indiana farm and savagely murdered them for their money. Because Belle managed to avoid capture and face trial, much of this story remains untold. Until now. This is a fairy-tale retelling of her brutal crimes from the perspective of her three young children...who soon discover there is something far worse, and far more evil, than their mother on the farm. Something Buried Long, Long Ago.
"If my career was limited to telling only one story, it would absolutely be this one,” said Anthony Cleveland. “I have been wanting to write a story involving the Belle Gunness case since I first saw a museum exhibit about her in middle school. Alex has stuck by and matched my passion for this story for the past five years. There were many setbacks to reach the finish, but with each delay, there was always a shared rally to return and do even better than before. Truly, this book is a high point for both of us. You're going to see surprises you would not expect from us or this type of story."
Alex Cormack added, “Buried Long, Long Ago is not for the weak. It is probably the heaviest book that I have worked on and to ring my own bell, I’ve drawn some horrific things. This story–and for that matter–Anthony’s writing, is fantastic, horrific, beautiful, and smart. The way he writes these characters reminds you of people you may have known and people you hope to never meet. This is a passion project for Anthony, and I am incredibly proud to be a part of it and cannot wait for people to see it. Come and stay forever.”
The chilling debut of Buried Long, Long Ago #1 is set for release on April 16th. Now available for preorder.

Another new series from Mad Cave Studios with The Slasher’s Apprentice coming in April 2025, and featuring some modern horror.
Coming soon from
Mad Cave Studios—a horror that blends classic slasher tropes with a Creepypasta twist!
Announcing
THE SLASHER’S APPRENTICE, a gripping five-issue miniseries from acclaimed creators Justin Richards (Finger Guns) and Val Halvorson (Pareidolia) comes to life with vibrant colors by Rebecca Nalty (Vampirella Red Sonja) and lettering by Buddy Beaudoin (Corvus), with a stunning variant cover by celebrated visual artist Trevor Henderson (Dead Mall)—cementing its place as the new standout addition to the Mad Cave horror comics catalog.

Riley, a horror-obsessed podcaster with a slasher villain fixation, is seeking a new career path: Helping her favorite legendary slasher, The Hopton Valley Killer, regain their long-lost notoriety while learning the ropes herself. Through a narrative drenched in suspense, dark humor, and clever nods to horror fandom,
The Slasher’s Apprentice explores the generational divides between classic and modern horror while examining the obsession and creativity behind the genre’s most iconic killers. Riley’s ambitions extend far beyond being an apprentice—she’s ready to carve her legend, one that will reshape the rules of the slasher genre forever.
Justin Richards spoke of the project:
"Val and I started working together over 5 years ago and we've been quick friends from the start. We spent much of our time during the pandemic going over story beats for our book, watching horror movies together, and bonding over our shared love of all things horror, comics, video games, and Nine Inch Nails. After making our series, Finger Guns, I knew Val and I would continue to work together for years to come. That's why as soon as I had a big idea for a horror series, I knew I wanted to bring him in on the creation process as early as possible and collaborate even more than we had in the past, by co-writing the series together. I knew together we'd bring more than enough expertise to attempt to create something really rad while also being new and different. Especially with a sacred genre like horror that we both hold dear in our hearts, we wanted to balance paying homage to our favorite things about the genre while coming at it from an angle that we haven't seen before and presenting new ideas. I think what we've cooked up is going to be a lot of fun for fans of slasher horror. Mad Cave has been great about letting us run wild with our ideas and I can't wait to share the twists, the celebration of horror and most of all the slashes."
Series artist Val Halvorson, added, “Justin and I are good friends and we've been working with each other since Finger Guns. “We've been watching horror movies together for years, so it was cool to utilize our shared knowledge to write for The Slasher's Apprentice and come up with fun scenarios and character moments. I think we work really well together and it felt like second nature bouncing ideas off each other during writing sessions.”
For fans of Hack/Slash, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, and those craving a genre-bending exploration of revenge, legacy, and modern horror—step into the eerie world of The Slasher’s Apprentice #1 on April 30th.
