I have long been a fan of Nova, and although the character has had many false dawns in terms of series, I hope to see more of this! This week’s pick is Nova: Centurion #4 from Marvel Comics.
Being NOVA PRIME ain’t easy, between doing good and doing what needs to be done to keep the Worldmind running (which sometimes includes doing good), RICH RIDER barely has time to sleep.
But when his ship gets stolen by dishonourably discharged ex-Nova Corps member and intergalactic criminal mastermind EDEN RIXLO, Rich is at risk of not even having a place to lay his head…
Author: Jed MacKay, Artists: Alvaro Lopez, and Alessandro Cappuccio
As I mentioned above, I’m a fan, but this issue combined the action of Nova - blasting through space on a chase, and some of the humour and galactic issues around the character.
First up are the planet-side issues, with a unique way to refuel the Worldmind of the Nova Force, along with Nova's concerns and comments from the supporting cast. This works well and gives a feeling of danger whenever Nova uses his powers.
Then there is the chase, a former collegue, stealing his ship - with the crew on board - where there are some unique ways of dealing with mines and keeping up with the thief.
Finally, we get an interesting cliffhanger in the galactic politics, which rounds out the story in this issue really well.
The art and colouring have a whale of a time, with planet-side and space elements, powers, and explosions. An excellent piece!
