My Pick of the week for this week is the one-shot story from Mad Cave Studios - The Phantom Vs. The Sky Band.
THE PHANTOM’S JUSTICE IS SWIFT AND ETERNAL!
The Sky Band entered the Phantom’s domain when they took blood money to carry the Singh Brotherhood into Bangalla. They thought their helicopters would make them untraceable, immune.
Now the mercenaries-for-hire will face the Phantom’s wrath. Those who survive…will be irreparably MARKED.
Author: Ray Fawkes
Artist: Federico Sabbatini
This was an interesting one-shot story. Usually, these one-shots make a good issue to either reintroduce a character or maybe add some lore to the story. This does both.
First up, for new readers, you won’t get bogged down in an excess of history - it can be enjoyed without reading the previous story arc that is referred to in the issue. You get some classic Phantom action, complete with branding of villains and a packed issue.
Those who read the previous arc will have a little more knowledge of the characters and the reason why the Phantom is going after them.
In addition to this, there is a nice tease as to what the Phantom’s next adventure will be during a quieter recovery moment.
Combining this clever storytelling with some excellent art that shows the action well makes this an easy book to pick up and enjoy!
