Judge Dredd: The Last Temptation of Joe by Ken Niemand (w) Lee Carter (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)
This was a dark story for Christmas time, but utterly fascinating. I really enjoyed the look back at some of the things that happened as Dredd is tempted, as well as the ‘is this real’ feel to it all. Some excellent art too.
Rogue Trooper: Brothers by Kek-W (w) Warwick Fraser-Coombe (a) Jim Campbell (l)
It’s always good to see Rogue Trooper, and this story brings in the bio-chips in a new way. It’s got some interesting ideas, and I like the premise. Some good classic action too.
Bonjo From Beyond The Stars: Solids In The Bile Tube by Garth Ennis (w) Kevin O'Neill (a) Rob Steen (l)
A manic re-introduction of Bonjo! I also enjoyed the other cameos, which gives us a taster of what is to come in 2023.
The Out: Book Three by Dan Abnett (w) Mark Harrison (a) Simon Bowland (l)
A good recap of what came before and what happened between the panels. I like the framing and the thoughts about ice-skating. The art continues to be excellent in this story. Good to see The Out return as there is a lot more story to tell.
Joe Pineapples: Tin Man by Pat Mills (w) Simon Bisley (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)
An interesting start to a new storyline, with some questions to be asked. Nevertheless, Joe and Ro-Jaws make an interesting duo, and I look forward to what will come. Especially after the last couple of pages add to the tension.
Hope: ...in The Shadows Reel Two by Guy Adams (w) Jimmy Brixton (a) Jim Campbell (l)
The nuclear option! With things really ramping up. The three sides to this conflict really make it interesting, and I don’t think this will work out well here.
Ace Trucking Co.: Untrenched by Karl Stock (w) Nick Dyer (a) Simon Bowland (l)
Some nice throwbacks here, with references to old progs! I enjoyed the story and it’s always good to see Ace Trucking Co.
Judge Dredd: Troublemaker by Gordon Rennie (w) Robin Smith (a) John Charles (c) Jim Campbell (l)
This troublemaker is well-shown and has some more close-to-the-knuckle bits in it. I liked the help he gets; that is a nice touch, and the way this story is told is perfect.
Protus Vex: Crawlspace by Mike Carroll (w) Jake Lynch (a) Jim Boswell (c) Simon Bowland (l)
An interesting time-jump, and we have the war with the Scorchers. There are a lot of moving parts here, and they are kept together well. There are some good threats too. This story moved from a smaller story to something universe-wide and epic.
