A new series beginning from Vault Comics with interesting looks at our lives and art. This is Beyond Real #1.
An artist's discovery. When struggling artist June is injured in a severe car accident that leaves her boyfriend in a coma, she begins to experience strange visual phenomena. Soon, she's able to see that we are all actually living in a computer simulation. June must set out on a journey of possibility and peril into the metaphysical layers of the simulation to reach the world's creator and save her true love from death.

This is an awesome introduction to a new series. We kickoff with an interesting discussion between June and her boyfriend. One is coming from an artistic point of view, while the other is coming from a scientific point of view. It is interesting to see where they diverge and where they agree.
Things take a bad turn after a car accident, and while her boyfriend is in a coma, June finds herself very different.
This difference manifests itself in some interesting ways - from day to day and while making art, these do have a large effect on her, and she thinks she is loosing her mind.
This leads her to fall outside of our reality and with an excellent cliffhanger for us on the other side.
This buildup to the end of the issue is brilliant, with some good reactions and well-plotted moments. Aided by the art, we get a special read and something worth checking out.
A note on the art: there is so much in this issue to please the eye, with some brilliant scenes and use of the art. There are differing styles and some excellent use of the comic form. There are clever angles being used, and it really makes this something special to read.
The use of colour is also well used in this issue, with some great scenes and different pieces using different palettes.
A good beginning to a comic that guarantees to make you think about the world around you.
