In the city of Chicago, cold winds aren’t the only thing that cut through the night. A killer is on the loose and a masked man with a Capital P upon his chest is first at the scene.
Raised on four colour concepts of morality by the comic books that inspired his calling, this city’s newest protector must come to terms with a very chilling discovery. He’ll have to learn what that means for him in a world that’s a far cry from the pages of a superhero story.
This is not a simple tale of good triumphing over evil.
Written by Sam Gardner and art by Jerome Canty.
This was a dark and exciting introduction to the story. It’s edgy and clever and starts on a darker foot.
With a murderer and a hero both colliding over the death of a friendly homeless man.
There is more to it than that, though, and as the story progresses, the story builds to an interesting crescendo that I am looking forward to reading more of. There is more to this than just a murder, and it seems like there is something bigger than both the hero - Capital P - and the killer. There is a bigger mystery here, and I wonder where this will lead. I liked how it built up to the point of realisation; there is more to learn and more resounding to dig.
Capital P is an intriguing character with his technology, methods, and other identity. The addition of those in his care is well done, and I liked how his heroic and personal life are linked in his commentary.
The building of some of the ancillary characters is well done, with some good moments, and it makes me wonder how and where they will feature in the future.
The artwork is excellent. It is dark, gritty, and in all the right places. There are some clever moments, and the story's shadows and colours are well used.
The commentary of justice and punishment is exciting and poignant to today's world. Hopefully, this will be examined as the story progresses.
