Review: Captain Planet #5
From Dynamite Comics
After issue four’s big reveal, the fallout1 begins in Captain Planet #5 from Dynamite Comics.
New York City is under siege, as Lucian Plunder's ultimate scheme stands revealed — as he's transformed himself into the murderous Captain Pollution! But with the Planeteers scattered and Wheeler's ring lost in Plunder Tower, Captain Planet is off the board — with the city about to be drowned by a hurricane, can Kwame pull off a heroic last stand alone against a radioactive demigod? Don't miss this action-packed blockbuster issue!

This was an excellent issue. We get a good look at Captain Pollution's strengths, and this issue did a stellar job of showing his powers and what he wants. Along with that, we get plenty of action with the Planeteers.
This issue gives the Planeteers a lot to do, and it does an amazing job of showing all the cast without feeling too rushed. The number of characters in this story can be overwhelming, but the issue gives each character time to shine.
There is the rescue aspect of the powers. The devastation caused by Captain Pollution threatens to create an environmental catastrophe. Still, even so, the natural powers are there to stop this from being as bad as possible.
Meanwhile, there is the fight against Captain Pollution. There is some clever use of the powers here, with Earth making the biggest impact in the battle. It is also clever as to why the battle was being fought—to buy time.
That time comes to the fore here with the retreival of the fire ring. There are some interesting comments here, and I wonder how that will pan out when this all finishes up. There are some good action moments, and it all leads well to the reappearance of…
Captain Planet.
This is an excellent issue and build-up. There is a lot for the art team to get onto, and they do a sterling job. There are some well-plotted points and a great finish to get us ready for the exciting next issue.
