Review: Excommunicated #2
From Vault Comics
After the exciting issue #1, Excommunicated #2 is out now from Vault Comics.
Josephine joins forces with the demon Edimmu to avoid a horrific attack, but when she comes to, she has no memory of how she got to the train station. When she realizes the demon is manipulating her and that she has no choice but to accept his help, she confronts Father Santos and returns to the site of the failed exorcism…where Vatican forces are waiting for them!

After the excellent initial issue acting as the setup, this second issue continues strongly as the team-up between the Nun and the Demon begins in earnest here.
First up, Josephine is in trouble. It looks like there is someone out to get her, and this issue builds on that tension. Her faith is going to be seriously tested here, as there are the inklings of an interesting betrayal and a deeper conspiracy that she knows.
Josephine is a great foil to the demon, and her reactions to the demonic goings-on are perfect for the story as she delves deeper into what has actually happened. Talking of reactions, there are some brilliant ones by a taxi driver who is just doing his job.
On the flip side of the coin is Edimmu, who is very dark and well-versed in Christian dogma. I like the way he is only giving some hints towards what is happening and that, in addition to his cynical nature, make him a captivating character.
What is going on though? We have only had small hints, and it looks like there are some large organisations complicit in this scheme. We have no idea what the endgame plan is and how it will come about — at his point, all there is fighting against it is a Nun and a jobbing Demon!
I really got into the artwork for this issue. The normal aspects were excellent, but then when Edimmu make an appearance it goes into an excellent overdrive with light and colours bursting out, and you know that something is on in these panels.
I admit I’m hooked for this series and look forward to discovering more of this mystery.
