A deadly witch named Avarice has been terrorizing the denizens of New York’s Hell’s Kitchen for generations. So, when Robyn Hood, New York’s protector, discovers Avarice’s exploits, she goes to confront her, but she’ll need the help of Gretel, the infamous Witch Hunter, to get the job done.
Story: Dave Franchini, David Wohl & Honor Vincent, Writer: Honor Vincent, Artwork: Daniel Mainé & Alessio Mariani, Colors: Grostieta & Maxflan Araujo, Letters: Taylor Esposito (Of Ghost Glyph Studios), Editor: David Wohl, and Production & Design: Christopher Cote
This clever team-up made me wonder why these two characters haven’t teamed up before. Nevertheless, this is a good action issue, with Robyn learning more about her powers and having something taken from her. This was only temporary, but it adds some exciting stakes to the story, and some of its narrative works well. The duo works well as a team, and hopefully, this will pull Gretel closer to the Grimm Universe.
Gretel, on the other hand, is alone, retaining her issues from her previous stories. You can see some different reactions to her and her personality. This gives us some interesting points of view, and I liked how it moved that side of the story.
The story works well, with a witch operating in New York and getting Robyn’s interest. This interest also brings in Gretel, and the reasoning behind their involvement in this mystery works well.
There is some good action, with magic and arrows used in the battles. The levels of the threats increase well, and Robyn even manages to impress Gretel with her power.
This was an entertaining one-shot, using Robyn to bring Gretel into a larger role in the Grimm Universe.
