When this story kicked off I thought that it would a standard team-up. Vampires, killing people, Robyn getting Van Helsing and then off they go.
It is something more involved than that.
Yes, it has a standard start. Robyn is undercover, investigating a nightclub with potential vampires. Things in the club don’t work out as planned, but outside, she gets some action and confirmation.
Enter Van Helsing. First, there is a nice little tease for the vampire hunter's future, as she is working on something. Her past issues and future problems are mentioned well here.
Back to the main story, Robyn and Van Helsing investigate what is happening, and the story has some nice twists. It makes a slightly uncomfortable agreement for the duo, but there is plenty of action to keep them going. The threat at the end makes the feelings clear for the two, and we move on.
Except there is a nice twist in the tale's ending, which will hopefully appear in some later issues. I liked that.
The artwork had some fun and brilliant visual storytelling, especially near the end, when Robyn used a special arrow. It is a nice touch and well-plotted.
This was a good and traditional team-up, where the two characters have a good shared history and can bond well. This does make a change from the unusual ones.
