A new Godzilla series is out this week from IDW Publishing. This one has an interesting twist, too!
Check out my thoughts on Godzilla: Heist #1.
What if you could predict when and where Godzilla would appear? What if you knew of the perfect opportunity to pull off the heist of the century? Jai is a young man who knows two things: A heist needs a good distraction, and there’s no distraction like Godzilla.
So, when Jai discovers Godzilla responds to specific energy signals he can send into the atmosphere, he creates the perfect opportunity to stage high-profile heists in the middle of Godzilla attacks. But these heists put Jai on the radar of some very dangerous men, men who want Jai to work with them to pull off the most dangerous job the world has ever seen!

It is an interesting concept, and upon reading this new comic from IDW, I realised that I hadn’t read a Godzilla comic before! Of course, I had seen the movies, and I had seen giant beasts like Fing Fam Foom, as well as in the early issues of Planetary, but not a comic!
The heist idea caught my attention, and it is an interesting premise - how much control can be had over a force of nature such as Godzilla? Of course, things go wrong, and you can’t plan for everything, but this comic shows it has multiple layers to it.
There is some interesting backstory going on here, which is why this heist exists. I love how it pans out in the narrator's head. Is he reliable? That is the question, and it keeps you hooked into the story and what is happening.
We’ve got a team, and although there is only an initial introduction, there is a lot to take in from them all, and I’m sure we shall see more of their skills - and temperaments - later.
I enjoyed the art in this issue. From the initial Godzilla attack, to the hedonistic ways of the party. In addition to that, the flashback scenes make an interesting mix to it all.
I really want to see how this pans out and it looks to be proving to be an enjoyable read for my first Godzilla comic!
