I went straight into this new story, and I think I was hooked. It surely is a page-turner, and I really found myself getting immersed in the Western/magic genre here.
As with most new series, there is a certain amount of world-building. What I like about this initial issue is that world-building is built into part of the plot and some character moments.
Giles is an interesting character. He has his own skillset and some interesting opinions, and there is that secret he harbours. The vampirism is an interesting affliction, and it adds to the fallen character of Giles while also adding some levels of suspense for what may come in the future.
I loved the art style; it has an excellent combination of the washed-out tones you would expect from a Western. It also throws in some entertaining comic elements with different species, magic and ghosts, which add well to this fantastic tale.
Gridley is an interesting story, with an out-of-towner with a secret coming into a town. There are wizards, ghosts and vampires. The combination of the tension of the town with the ailment that Gridley has makes for an interesting and tense read.
Reviewed this month's ago, great read. Shame so many people aren't aware of it.
