A new story arc begins in Grimm Fairy Tales #86 from Zenescope Entertainment this week…
Skye Mathers has battled her fair share of witches and deadly magic during her time as Guardian of the Nexus. But when a primordial evil is released that threatens the lives of all it comes across, will Skye be able to put this ancient wickedness back into the hell it has escaped from? Guest starring Gretel the Witch Hunter?

There seem to be a lot more issues involving witches from Zenescope recently, and it looks to be a more concerted effort to bring Gretel into the wider Grimm Universe. This issue looks to bring her closer into the fold. On the one hand, Gretel is dealing with a warlock who seems to be reporting to the big evil witch. This is amusing and well done, but it does finish with a quick and violent method (the usual Gretal method).
Meanwhile, Shang looks to be moving very close to changing his school to a training area for a fighting force - shades of Professor X/Magneto here, and the response isn’t enthusiastic. He is trying to improve in some cases, but it seems to be a case of two steps forward and two steps back.
Admittedly, he does have a point, though.
At the school, after the training, there is a problem with a raid on the witches. While the reasoning behind the raid may be good, they look to have the wrong person. That causes a further problem as it looks like a possession is happening.
This was a good issue, although some of the pacing seemed a little disjointed. I think the next part will be better, though, as all the different characters are close to coming together.
