Welcome to the world of Gritt Grimstone, a seasoned pilot, a dedicated astronaut, a daring adventurer and a master of all trades.
In this book, an aging Gritt Grimstone attends his 104th birthday party on a space station orbiting Earth. While at the party he recounts several tales from his life to a young child. These are the Tales From a Far Out Future!
An anthology graphic novel containing 4 short stories + the narration. ( Originally published as Gritt Grimstone: Tales From a Far Out Future, and has been re-edited from its original form )
by Drew D Lenhart (Author), Hernan Molina (Illustrator), Rowel Roque (Illustrator)
Some classic science fiction here, with shades of Flash Gordon and Dan Dare. I love the framing of the story, with an older Gritt telling stories of time and adventures gone by while waiting for some reception.
The telling of the stories is engaging as although Gritt is the one telling them, you can tell his faults and problems, and he comes clean about those.
The stories are well laid out and have an excellent mix of space battles, spy missions, aliens and more terrain. There is a good degree of world-building here, and I like how this comic plays out from beginning to end.
The art style has a classic feel, with some good movements, action shots and character moments. There are some excellent reveals throughout, and I especially like the alien โgameโ that was being played.
This is a great science fiction set of stories with an early 2000 AD feel and some great twists and turns.
