A new one-shot from Archie Comics is out now. Delve into the mystical side with Kardak The Mystic.
All John Cardy ever wanted was to be recognised for his talents at magic tricks and sleight of hand. He’s talented, but not enough to get noticed for it until he comes across a (unbeknownst to him) cursed ruby. This ruby grants John the power of invisibility.
As Kardak the Mystic, he performs feats no one else can with this magic. Unfortunately for him, going invisible isn’t just a trick of the eyes, but rather entering another realm parallel to our own. And something inside that realm wants to use Kardak to enter our world for dark purposes.

With a magical bent, this was an entertaining one-shot, with some possible hints to further build for the character.
Kardak is a performer who plays in small-town theatres with a minimal audience. He wants more, and he comes across a magic shop he has never seen before on his wander through town.
This should have started the alarm bells ringing!
Even so, he enters and is easily talked into obtaining a magic amulet. He is warned that there is a cost to owning it. Although it isn’t financial, he pays the warning no heed.
The amulet gives him magical powers, and with that comes the fame and fortune he has lusted over. But in the corner of his eye, there is something else…
This was an entertaining one-shot adventure with a good mix of character, magic, and action. There is a nice twist at the very end, and it makes me hopeful for the character's future at some point.
I enjoyed the artwork and colouring; there were some well-done aspects regarding the magic and possible evil from beyond.
