Review: Kill All Immortals II #5
From Dark Horse Comics
The completion of this second story arc, Kill All Immortals II #5, gives us plenty of action and a setup for October’s release of Kill All Immortals III from Dark Horse Comics.
When a Viking is born to lead, they lead, no matter the cost. With little time left, Frey and the remnants of her family must pierce their enemies’ stronghold and confront their greatest adversary yet. But with the ability to return to immortality in reach, and Frey’s barbaric father seeking to regain power, Frey must decide the family’s fate once and for all.

Dark Horse Comics’ Kill All Immortals II #5 delivers a finale that feels relentless from the very first page, with Frey spearheading the counterattack alongside her family in a story that thrives on momentum, tension, and explosive action. What really stands out is how well the issue balances several moving parts at once. The plotting is incredibly sharp, with the narrative shifting between different fronts of the conflict as the infiltration unfolds, yet it never feels cluttered or confusing. Every scene pushes the stakes higher and keeps the pacing tight.
One of the strongest aspects of the series has always been Frey herself, and this issue reinforces why she has become such a compelling lead character. Over the course of the series, we’ve watched her evolve through loss, violence, and responsibility, but here she takes another major step forward. There is a noticeable transformation in her character by the end of the issue — something darker, stronger, and more dangerous beginning to emerge. It feels like a natural progression for her arc, but it also hints that anyone standing against her in the future may be facing something far more terrifying than before.
The build-up to the climactic confrontation is handled brilliantly. There’s a constant sense of anticipation running through the issue, and once the action truly kicks into gear, it becomes impossible not to get swept up in it. The dialogue from the rest of the family also adds a lot to those moments. Their reactions, comments, and interactions give the chaos emotional weight and help ground the larger action scenes in the family dynamics that have been such a key part of the story from the beginning.
Then there’s the epilogue, which lands perfectly. It’s one of those twists that instantly makes you think, “Of course that was coming,” because of the subject matter, but it still manages to reframe the scale of what comes next. What began as a brutal and personal conflict now appears poised to expand into something much larger, potentially global in scope, which makes the prospect of the next chapter even more exciting.
Visually, the artwork is exceptional throughout. The action scenes carry a real sense of grit, determination, and physical impact, while the smoother, more reflective flashback moments create an excellent contrast that adds texture to the storytelling. The creative team manages to make every confrontation feel raw and intense without losing clarity or atmosphere. It’s the kind of artwork that deserves to be appreciated in an oversized format because so much detail and energy are packed into every page.
Overall, this is a hugely satisfying conclusion to the arc — intense, emotional, and packed with momentum for what comes next. It closes this chapter in style while leaving plenty of intrigue and anticipation for the future. I genuinely cannot wait to see where the story goes from here.
