From Rebellion this week is a different view of Mega City One in this excellent story.
Experience the iconic city of Mega-City One as never before, in this visionary comic from Kenneth Niemand (Judge Dredd) and Dave Taylor (Judge Dredd, Batman). In this radical reimagining of the world of Judge Dredd, join disgraced Officer Amy Jarra and Detective Joe ‘choirboy’ Rico as they navigate the crime-ridden underbelly of the glamourous Metropolis, attempting to solve the murder of undercover Detective Fisher.

As a new look at what we are used to in the world of 2000 AD, this is an excellent story. It starts as a murder mystery, with a new partner for a cop who is not 'one of the boys'. He has a new partner with an interesting name and a sad backstory. The links to what long term fans of 2000 AD are here to see.
With names and mentions of a past and a future of Mega City One, long term fans can really enjoy this story. Cunningly though, if you are not well-versed in the history of the world of Judge Dredd, this is still an excellent read. Giving you information on the past, present and (thanks to a pre-cog) the future. There is a lot going on in this read.
The world in which it is set is amazing. Dirty and clean in different ways, with shiny streets and dirty cops. It has some well-versed violence and details the story well.
The characters are well told, with a lot going on with them all. The size of the story shows it all well, and doesn't give it all away. Nevertheless, there is enough to drive this story through.
The artwork is fantastic, with the combination of large gala events - with bright lights and ballgowns - and the down and dirty of the tunnels and backstreets.
There is an excellent set of conspiracies here, with founders of the city at odds with each other, murderers, gangs, unions and vigilantes.
For fans of 2000 AD, this is a great read, and for science fiction fans with no knowledge of the world we know, it is also worth your time.
