Review: Merlin & Hector #3
From Red 5 Comics is the latest issue of this old-time series - this is Merlin & Hector #3
The final showdown! The Skinshifters have conquered the town and it doesn't seem that Hector can defeat them, despite having the help of The Plagues. Only Merlin will be able to tip the balance in his favor, but to do so he must finally control the magic that baffles him so much. Will he be able to do it or is this the end of their adventure?

The final part of this arc. We get a good look at what Merlin can do and a little of his history.
I'm sure there is more to find out, but knowing what we do about Merlin, and the way this prequel story works, it will be interesting to find out some more. The question about Merlin's parents is interesting - especially his mother - and I expect part of this story is going to be more about Merlin's heritage.
The magic does come out here, and it works in a good way. Merlin doesn't have full control yet, but he is getting there, and he is learning about what he can do.
Hector continues to be a great character to build up. We are learning more about him. He is not just a thief, but he is a fighter and a leader - this works out really well in this story.
The fightback against the Skinshifters is well done, with the group (including the Plagues) fightback on behalf of the townsfolk. I like the way it was all planned and the way that things go mostly to plan.
The art continues to be excellent, with some dark and gritty scenes, which mix well with the dream sequences. The use of magic and the animals are excellent.
This is a great series and one I hope to see continuing as it looks at Arthurian legend in a new and interesting way.
