Discover more from 3 Million Years
A new series from Image Comics by Mark Millar and Juanan Ramirez - this is Night Club #1.
You're 17 years old and you've been bitten by a vampire. Do you live in the shadows and drink human blood, or do you use your newfound gifts for the dream costumed superhero life you've always wanted? You're bulletproof, you can crawl up walls, and you can turn to mist, bats, or even a wolf. Why not have a little fun?

This is an interesting introduction. As with all new series, there is a lot to take in, but this introduction pulls and pushes you in different directions.
The method of getting to the vampire aspect is well done, with a severe injury and some recruitment drive. The training montage seems a little short, and I wonder if that is a factor that will play into later issues.
The action in itself is quite muted in this issue. Due to it being a training session, there is no real threat coming from this yet, but the action is implied to be coming. Some bullies look like they need to be taken care of!
I enjoyed the art in this issue, with some excellent use of close-up spaces, as well as scenes on the rooftops and wide open - I can see some interesting situations being shown here.
The plot is at the beginning, with many routes and options for where to go with the story. There is the kids’ angle, the superhero angle and the black-ops angle. All of these have some legs, and it will be interesting to see how they interact.
An interesting introduction, and one I look forward to seeing what happens next.
