The horror continues as we learn more about the characters and what they are prepared to do to survive in Only The Savage Are Left #3 from Dark Horse Comics.
With little time, Ryder and his new grizzled and immoral mentor must track and kill the behemoth monster of all monsters. While pursuing their target, they also try desperately to avoid the sadistic and cutthroat group of marauders who are hunting them, as Ryder desperately clings to his nonviolent, well-meaning ways.

The rescue mission continues, and Ryder is still clinging to his ideals as we not only get more mutated monster action but also some flashbacks that flesh out the characters.
There is a fair amount of tension in this issue. Not only the rescue aspect – that doesn’t go to plan – but there is a monster lurking around which makes an impressive appearance at the end of the issue. We were prepped for this, but it nevertheless was an imposing site.
During the issue there is an excellent split of action, emotion and dialogue. Combining the plan for the rescue, as well as curing themselves before they become something worse. The whole story is cleverly built, and we are now at the midpoint of the series, where things are well set up and the decisions characters make are now having results. Not that those results are good ones, mind you!
The artwork continues to be amazing; with the landscaping and characters, we get a real feel of the locations and the way the world is. Then there are the various monsters which are unique and well designed – culminating in the BIG reveal at the end.
This continues to be an excellent post-apocalyptic story with a unique twist and some excellent storytelling.
