A new story arc for the smartest man on the planet. Out now is Prodigy: Slaves Of Mars #1 from Dark Horse Comics.
Someone murdered Edison Crane’s father when he stumbled across the world’s greatest secret, and now he’s taking Edison’s entire life apart too. What was his father’s role in NASA’s secret space program and what does it mean for all mankind?
Author: Mark Millar, Artist: Stefano Landini
Edison Crane is an interesting character, and I have enjoyed his previous adventures.
This one is a different type of adventure for Crane, though, as it delves deeper into his past and his family.
It starts with a flashback to when he was younger. His father—also a genius—is in trouble and expects his son to rescue him. Not that one, though! That is an exciting twist, and I love how that aspect is not even revised again until near the end in another excellent twist.
In between this bookend, things are not going well for Edison Crane. His company is pushing him out, and his calculations aren’t working. Forces are out to get him, and they seem to be winning—making him a wanted man with no money.
Of course there are some questions yet to be answered - we don’t expect them to be told to us in the first issue - and this makes a hook for the future, and that is without the end reveal as well.
There is some excellent art here, including various locations around the world (and possibly off it!), and I love the changes in direction throughout.
This looks to be a deeper dive into Edison Crane and those around him, with his history and family. We’ve been waiting for this for a while!
