From Zenescope Entertainment is a new series featuring a character who has only had a fleeting introduction already. Sherlock Holmes is a classic name and Zenescope now have their own in the Grimm Universe.
Descended from the man who inspired the world’s most famous detective, Spencer Holmes was orphaned at a young age, never knowing her true lineage. But when her uncle suddenly returns to her life, she discovers the abilities of the Holmes family have been passed down to her, and that knowledge may cost Spencer her life--the same way it cost her parents theirs

This was an interesting read, as we’ve already been introduced to the character - but we have had no idea about her backstory and how she seems to be connected to Dagon and the like.
This issue gives us all of that, plus a little more.
First up, we kind of get the origin of the amulet she wears and the abilities it gives. It plays out well, with some teases on the Older Holmes, and their relatives. Her father does look a little familiar, but I will give them that as he is only in a few panels.
Even so, we do get a story of how she came to be in position of the amulet, and what happened to her parents. This too plays out cleverly as I am minded to remember the words of Obi Wan Kenobi in The Empire Strikes Back - “From A Certain Point Of View” - there is more to it than meets the eye and this makes the story a lot more interesting.
Within this story we get a good mix of mystery (some unsolved at this point) and a healthy dose of action on all side. This action does flip well from the human to the monstrous and does fit in well with Holmes’ adventures with Lovecraft.
I did find some of this issue jarring, but in all it was a good introduction to the character. The artwork combines some classic action with men in tactical wear and monsters from beneath well. There are a lot of locations to choose from too.
As I mentioned there are some answers, but I liked that there are still some things to learn!
