This was a clever issue. It dealt with the threat of a new villain and the fallout from the previous issue.
First up is Moltar, a fire-based scientist who has his own axe to grind. With the shadowy organisation employing his skills and his own resentment powering him on, he is a formidable opponent. I like the way there is a little mystery about him. The passion that drives him has made him pretty unstable, but he is something to be reckoned with against Space Ghost.
One thing I did like is that he learned from his initial defeat. That made the following battle a lot more interesting and built into the ending of this issue.
On the other side of the story, Jace deals with his actions in the last issue. The use of the journal with his feelings was an excellent framing technique, and Space Ghosts’s reaction to him and the subsequent ending play well into all of this.
Jace is finding his place in all of this, and I loved how it all plays out; the artwork has been brilliant. Showing Jace in the dark place he is in, and his emotions are well displayed. The action involves a lot of fire, and the colouring, shadows and use of other powers is brilliant, combining some classic science fiction adventure with a more modern tilt.
