A new adventure from Dynamite Comics with the family encountering a new enemy. This is Space Ghost #7.
In this issue: Our human heroes find themselves trapped on a mysterious jungle planet where they face The Creature King, who commands a host of beasts to do his nefarious bidding. In their most desperate hour of need, the team turns to the one member who can save them-Blip!
An all-new arc begins for the phenomenally successful series as acclaimed author DAVID PEPOSE and virtuoso artist JONATHAN LAU continue their exploration of the wonders (and dangers) of the galaxy with help from space- age cover artists FRANCESCO MATTINA, JAE LEE & JUNE CHUNG, BJORN BARENDS, and ANTHONY MARQUES! This was an excellent palette cleanser after the previous issues. Not only do we get an exciting adventure featuring all of the Space Ghost family getting some action, but we also get a new dimension on the threats they face and how they work together.
The fact that the three humans have been somewhat neutralised makes for an exciting read. Regressed to more animalistic ways, Space Ghost - the most adult of them - is having the most challenging time, and I like the explanation as to why the two children are less affected.
Blip, on the other hand, goes the other way…
I did get a Planet Of The Apes feel to this - and combining it with this threat is excellent, as we follow Blip through the mountain to rescue his friends. His ongoing commentary as we move along in technical aspects and action is brilliant and puts us in his mindset. I half expected him to say, ‘Oh my stars and garters’!
The artwork with the various intelligent animals and fight scenes is excellent. I enjoyed all the panels and the way they progressed.
The ending is interesting, and there is a good possibility that the foe can be re-used in future adventures, meanwhile us - as the readers - have learned and remembered more.
Space Ghost continues to combine a larger adventure, interspersed excellently with some quick stories that build on the characters within.
