Review: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #121
From IDW Publishing, things are tense after the previous issue - this is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #121.
It’s an all-out confrontation as the Mutantimals clash with the Splinter Dojo for the fate of Mutant Town! Will the TMNT be able to keep their students from harm and take the fight to Old Hob?
Sophie Campbell (Author) Jodi Nishijima (Artist, Cover Artist)
After the previous issues tense standoff, we get a fast-moving first half of the story. Hob makes a run for it, and the chase is pretty quick and well done. In both art and story terms, there are some excellent scenes here, as the mutant cat is chased down. There is a lot of emotion here, and that is understandable - but cooler heads should be there too.
Those emotions are still pretty raw in the second half of this story, with repercussions and punishments - it's not the end of it yet, and there are some well-done parts here. The other Mutanimals make some interesting appearances here, and I like the way the tension here is building.
It's not ready to boil over yet, but there are parts here, with some prodding and bad mistakes and it could all go wrong. in the background you know someone like Stockman or Rat King is looking to take advantage of it all.
This wasn't a buffer issue, but it could easily could be - but there was just enough of the story to move things on well.
