After the turtle under the mask is revealed in issue #1, we get a deeper look into the who, the why, and the how.
The who does make a certain degree of sense. Someone who feels the same as the brothers do and was strongly involved in their adventures. Their sense of justice has been instilled, and now that the status quo has been changed, they find themselves lost.
And that is where we find them, leading us from the who and delving into the why—although the why isn’t fully complete until the end of the issue—to the how.
The how and the why are well linked in this issue, giving both a reason and a method. I can see how this method may cause some problems in the future, though. Hopefully, it will work out well, as this adds a mystical dimension to a street-level vigilante.
I liked how this show plays out with the why, and I was minded of the golems of mythology. That combination with the mutant world was well done, with a degree of sadness, though - The best of intentions and all that.
That covers all bases in this story, which combines an excellent second-issue story with compelling artwork and colours. There is a lot to be said about some of the expressions of the different mutants in the town, and I loved the action and the different locations.
This is an excellent spinoff, and I look forward to seeing more of the Nightwatcher's individual adventures and to the inevitable encounter with the TMNT.
