Review: The Magic Order 3 #1
A new volume of this series from Image Comics
Fresh off the recent second story of The Magic Order, comes a third from Image Comics.
We've met the American and British members of the Magic Order. Now it’s time to meet the ASIAN chapter, including a brilliant new major player in the upcoming live-action NETFLIX SHOW—SAMMY LIU. This issue will be a huge COLLECTOR’S ITEM.
Writer - Mark Millar, Artist - Gigi Cavenago Cover A & B - Gigi Cavenago Cover C - Greg Tocchini
Spreading the wings of the Magic Order, we get bounced around a lot. This is something I’ve wanted to see from this series, though. We got a bit of it with Eastern Europeans and the British Wizards, and now the wings are spreading further.
This was well taken, though; we have a lot of introductions of new characters and new aspects to the world of magic, as seen here.
There is some enjoyable magic, too, with floating yachts, demons and more. There is the darker side, too, with murderers and spells going awry. I like the comment about the spell that dooms them all and wonder if that is in the story's endgame?
There is a good amount of humour here, with a good threat to get information - imagine having all of Game Of Thrones and CSI to get through! It works with the story and adds a new dimension to these characters.
The art is enjoyable and works well in some of the more fantastic parts - with the magic - combining some big splash panels and some excellent cramped and close-up scenes.
This was a good kickoff, and I assume the story will settle down soon as the characters come together.
