We’re at an interesting point here in this series from Image Comics. This is The Magic Order 3 #3.
Leonard Moonstone stepped aside to make room for his daughter Cordelia as leader of the Order and to find his estranged wife and tell her what happened to their late son Gabriel. But Salome Moonstone has been gone for a very long time, and she has a remarkable secret of her own when he finds her. Can he help?
Writer - Mark Millar, Artist - Gigi Cavenago
This issue concentrates more on the previous generation and the generation to come. I like the split between the two parts of the story, and I hope to see these combined sooner rather than later.
There is a certain amount of decadence on show here, but that quickly moves on to the training of the younger ones. I like the threat and how they go after them - it seems a little easy, that is until it isn’t and there is something extra.
The spirits of these villains are well shown, and there are some excellent scenes - especially up in the mountains. These scenes show off the art style, and we get some open spaces, underwater, and close-up views. This combines the mundane with the magical in a good way.
This issue spreads the story and adds new dimensions to the magical aspects. It also builds on some of the relationships and adds new ones.
A good middle issue.
