Review: The Magic Order 3 #5

The penultimate part of this arc from Image Comics, this is The Magic Order 3 #5.

The Magic Order has a golden rule: Magic must never be used for personal gain. Anything that smacks of this leads to immediate expulsion and so it breaks the team's heart to find out they have a traitor in their ranks. Warning: This is not who you could ever have imagined.

The threads here are still coming together, and there are still a lot of items to be wrapped up in the final issue of this arc to come.

This was a pretty good issue, with a lot of good action and magic while also keeping the group together and building on this magic world. The new spells that are being used are well done, and I like how the use of the defensive items works out too. There is something to be said about this use of magic rather than in other fiction…

I like the way the battle runs out, with some clever ideas and a good way out of it all. The action is planned out well, and it shows. Then we are onto the ‘admin’ section for the Magic Order, and it doesn’t look good. There are some difficult decisions to be made here.

I enjoyed the art - in some ways, it was very frantic, but it shows the emotion well and that final panel will stick with you when you see the expression on the character's face.
