The second issue of The Rocketeer Breaks Free is out now from IDW Publishing. It has a different location but some of the same problems.
Cliff’s intentions were pure this time-they really were. All he wanted to do was accompany his gal, Betty, to the City by the Bay to shoot her new movie and keep himself outta trouble.
Well, trouble had other ideas! The Rocketeer finds himself up against three Nazi U-Boats, which have launched acovert surprise attack on the Golden Gate Bridge. And what could they possibly want with the Rock, a.k.a. Alcatraz? And why is the Rocketeer at the very center of their plans?!

Continuing the change of location, we will get a certain degree of sightseeing on this issue. In this case, it is the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s not just the sights, though, as the bridge does have a role in driving the plot. The mystery submarine teased in the initial issue makes an immediate impact, and it hasn’t come alone.
Not only is there a sea-based attack, but there is also air power. The Nazi Rocket-Propelled soldiers are also on the attack, and although they may have the numbers, they don’t have the skills in the air. Not compared to Cliff!
The battle is well played out and links nicely with the rescue and peril others find themselves in on the bridge. It's a very good combination, and I like how the pacing and speed of this aspect play out.
Cliff is excellent, and you can tell he wanted a quieter visit, but things seem to keep happening. There is more of that to come in the future, as teased at the end of the story, although we don’t know what the grand plan may be!
I enjoyed the art in this, with some excellent wide shots - to take in the grand bridge - as well as in the air. Pulling in tight for the rescue made it feel more urgent, and there were some brilliant panels.
This series has an excellent team for the characters involved, and I can’t wait to read more!
