Review: Transformers #38

IDW Publishing has the latest issue of the ongoing war between the Autobots and Decepticons this week in Transformers #38.

“Darkness, Once Gazed Upon” is a rescue mission to Iacon as Arcee, Windblade, Chromia, and Smokescreen link up with two long-lost allies left in the city. Their goal: to rescue a captured Autobot general. But things are never easy when Swindle’s involved!

The fallout from the last issue continues and there is the hidden threat too.

This was well played out, with Ultra Magnus taken prisoner, and some good back and forth between the captive and the Decepticons. I like the level of respect he was given. It was just the right amount for the Decepticons, without them breaking away from their loyalties now.

The rescue works out well, with some well put together aspects. The team works well and I like how they fit seamlessly together to get the job done.

Meanwhile, there is the threat of Exarchon, and there are suspicions on both sides. Cyclonus has some interesting conversations (some with the ghosts of his past) and there are some good hints as to what to expect going forward.

Meanwhile, Swindle's attempts to play both sides seem to have backfired as we get to the end of the issue.

I enjoyed this read, and the artwork continues to be strong. The way that Cyclonus and his ghosts are portrayed is especially well done.
